Kia to complete EV lineup by next year: CEO

Korean automaker aims to lead mass adoption of EVs with affordable models Kia has reaffirmed its plan to complete a full lineup of electric vehicles with launches of three new all-electric models through next year, aiming to lead the popularization of EVs. 'The full lineup of mass-market models ranging from the EV2 to EV5 will secure the same level as internal combustion engine vehicles in terms of the (total cost of ownership),' said Song Ho-sung, CEO of Kia, during the company's general meeting of shareholders held at El Tower in southern Seoul on Friday. 'This will enable customers to experience the outstanding performance of Kia EVs at a reasonable price and will lead the mass-adoption of EVs.' Starting with the launch of the Kia EV3, a battery-powered sport utility vehicle, the Korean automaker plans to debut two more electric SUVs in the EV2 and EV5, as well as the EV4, its first electrified sedan. The Kia CEO also emphasized that the automaker will expand into new market segments this year with the launch of PV5, the first model featuring the company's Platform Beyond Vehicle solution, and the market debut of the Tasman, the brand's first pickup truck. Pointing out the automaker's priority on digitalizing customer experiences, Song said, 'Kia's next-generation (software-defined vehicle), which we plan to finish developing in 2026, will be presented as a car integrating software and hardware by combining autonomous driving and connectivity on the basis of electronic architecture and an automotive operating system.' The CEO said the company expects to sell 3.22 million vehicles this year, up 130,000 units from 2024, as it enters a cycle of new vehicle launches. Kia forecast that it will log 12.4 trillion won ($8.5 billion) in operating profit with an operating profitability of 11 percent this year despite conservative projections due to intensifying competition worldwide and external uncertainties. Kia announced it will raise its dividend to 6,500 won per share this year, an increase of 900 won from last year. The automaker also unveiled that it has added real estate development to its business scope, saying that the automaker plans to build new flagship stores -- integrated showrooms that offer test drives, on-site purchases, maintenance and repair services and brand experiences.

CEO: Kia ‘definitely' needs smaller, even more affordable EV under EV2

TARRAGONA, Spain — Kia, fresh off the heels of unveiling its pint-sized EV2 crossover, says it is planning an even smaller, more affordable entry electric vehicle to turbocharge EV sales growth. Kia Corp. CEO Ho Sung Song said the South Korean automaker 'definitely' needs an offering below the EV2 and may even tease a concept of the car, a possible EV1, next year. Speaking at the Feb. 24 Kia EV Day here, Song said his company needs an affordable, mass-market entry to help drive global volume to the 1.6 million EVs Kia wants to sell annually in 2030. Such an offering is especially important in Europe where stringent emissions standards demand higher EV sales and EV price competition is being stoked by low-cost product from China. At the Kia EV event, Kia showcased the production version of an EV4 compact sedan and hatchback, a PV5 electric van and a concept version of the upcoming EV2 subcompact crossover. Kia expects the EV2 to start around €30,000 ($31,100) and deliver annual sales of 100,000, mostly from Europe, Song said. The EV4 will start around €37,000 ($38,400) with volume of 160,000, with 80,000 from Europe, 50,000 from North American and 25,000 in South Korea. The PV5 will start around €35,000 ($36,300). By 2030, Kia wants annual sales of 250,000 from its line of Platform Beyond Vehicle people and cargo movers, including the PV5, PV7 and PV9. But Song says Kia still needs something more affordable to capture buyers after the first wave of 'early majority' EV adopters, a group he calls 'late majority' customers. 'I think the EV2's major target is early majority customers,' Song said. 'But if we want to move to the late majority customer target, we definitely need a lower size and a lower price.' Kia could tease that vehicle at the 2026 EV day, he added. 'We are internally studying what will be our entry EV product, apart from the EV2,' Song said. 'And maybe at the next EV Day, we will show you.' Kia did not disclose details about this entry EV. But the EV2 will go on sale in 2026 and option two batteries. The standard grade is expected to get a lithium-iron phoshate battery that delivers a range of at least 300 kilometers (190 miles), while the upper-grade long-range model gets a nickel-cobalt-manganese battery capable of ranges around 450 kilometers (280 miles), Kia said. The new, smaller EV would likely be the size of the Kia Picanto, sport smaller, less-costly batteries, and start under the €30,000 ($31,100) threshold. Kia's worldwide EV sales rose 10 percent to 201,000 vehicles in 2024, as its overall sales inched ahead only 0.1 percent to 3.09 million globally. Kia wants to sell 250,000 EVs globally this year. By 2030, the company wants to sell 1.6 million EVs worldwide, out of some 4.3 million vehilces of all powertrains. EVs should account for about 30 percent of Kia's total sales then, Song said. He said Kia will get there by ramping up a full range of new EVs, including the EV2, EV3, EV4 and EV5. Kia also plans 11 commerical EVs in that timeframe, including the PV5, PV7 and PV9. Despite Its Tiny Size The Kia EV2 Concept Has The Perfect Seats For Canoodling

At its EV Day event in Spain this week, Kia revealed the production versions of the EV4 sedan and PV5 van, both hugely important electric vehicles for the brand. Kia used the opportunity to also unveil a concept version of its upcoming EV2, a really tiny SUV aimed at European cities. Its adorable exterior is a close preview of what to expect from the production EV2 that will come out next year, and while the interior of the Concept EV2 is definitely more, well, concept-y than the outside, it has one real standout feature that I must highlight: the seats. If you've been missing the old Honda Fit's Magic Seats, you're in luck, because the EV2 concept has an evolution of the same idea. As it's based on the same E-GMP platform as other Hyundai Motor Group vehicles, the EV2 has a totally flat floor that Kia's designers took full advantage of. The base of the rear seat can flip up, allowing the front bench to slide all the way back, leaving a ton of room between you and the dashboard. Kia says it's perfect for relaxing or stretching your legs, and that you can sit on the flat floor to enjoy a meal, but we all know what this is really good for. If you're trying to cuddle up at a drive-in theater or get naughty at lover's lane, this seems like a way more spacious solution than getting into the back seat. When you open up the Concept EV2's front sliding and rear-hinged rear doors, sections slide out of the ends of the bench to add additional seating areas and storage compartments. While the production EV2 will certainly have four normal, front-hinged doors, the flip-up bench and sliding front seat doesn't seem far-fetched to me. In other markets, cars like the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9 have second-row captain's chairs that swivel around to face the third row, and Hyundai has shown off how you can slide and recline the Ioniq 9's front passenger seat pretty far back, right up against the second-row seat, for a great lounge experience. Read more: These Are The Dumbest Looking Cars Of All Time, According To You Kia says the EV2's interior "blends practicality and emotion," but it's really not too different from its current offerings, or even that concept-y. The orange metal surface running along the dash incorporates power outlets and a wireless charger along with some physical media or climate controls, and the only other piece of hardware on the dash is the seamless widescreen display. Kia doesn't say what sort of orange fabric is covering the front section of the interior, only that the EV2 uses sustainable materials, but the color split looks great. The triangular speakers in the door cards are actually removable and portable, like what you get in a Rivian. There are also pop-up sliding luggage dividers and straps, sections in the windows that display text messages to pedestrians or other road users, and animated LEDs in the dash. To go along with the door speakers there are lots of triangular motifs throughout, like the headrest shapes and the metal straps that appear to hold the seatbacks in place. While the EV2 might not look quite as outrageous as some of Kia's other recent EVs on the outside, it's definitely distinctive and has a lot of cool elements. It's the first instance we've seen of Kia using a pair of vertical headlights on each side, which sit above a bumper that looks like a sports person's mouth guard. Crisp lines run along broad shoulders that have prominent angular wheel arches, and the EV2's boxy silhouette and upright stance give me Soul vibes. The C-pillar shape is a new motif for Kia that works well here, and my favorite element are the weird taillights that are mounted quite low down on the rear end. Kia says the EV2 will launch in Europe and "other regions" in 2026, and the production model has already been spied looking basically identical to the concept, at least from the outside. Sadly, it doesn't seem like the U.S. will be one of those "other regions." The company hasn't given exact dimensions but Kia says the EV2 is a B-segment SUV, of which there are barely any in America — think cars like the Nissan Juke and Ford EcoSport. We could see the production version of the EV2 be revealed at some point later this year. Read the original article on Jalopnik.

Kia EV2 Concept Is Kia's Next Small EV

The Kia EV2 Concept debuted during the Kia EV Day event in Tarragona, Spain. The EV2 Concept debuted alongside the production version of the EV4. Kia says that the EV2 is scheduled to go on sale in Europe and other regions in 2026. Kia's EV Day is finally here, and it brought another of the company's EV concepts to the forefront. The Kia EV2 is set to be the B-segment entry point into the brand's battery-electric offerings. While this is a concept, Kia hasn't commented on the EV2's powertrain or battery pack. This compact Kia will probably ride on the company's e-GMP platform. Despite not pushing any details about the powertrain to the public, Kia did say that the EV2 will feature vehicle-to-load charging, which could be another sign that this upcoming EV will ride on the company's modular platform. Even though there isn't a lot about the EV2's powertrain, Kia did show off some creative packaging solutions for this small concept. This EV concept sports reverse-opening rear doors to help rear passengers more easily hop into the rear of the cabin. That rear seat can also fold upward to make more space for taller individuals to push the sliding front bench seat back as far as possible to make space for long legs. This concept also features pop-up luggage dividers and removable door speakers, like the Toyota Tacoma's center dash speaker. If you're wondering if Kia is going to build the EV2, that's an easy one: Yes. The company plans to launch this compact BEV crossover in Europe and other markets in 2026. It's hard to say if other markets are a reference to the United States, but only time will tell. Do you think that that Kia should bring the production version of the EV2 to the U.S.?
