Kia EV2 Concept Is Kia's Next Small EV
The EV2 Concept debuted alongside the production version of the EV4.
Kia says that the EV2 is scheduled to go on sale in Europe and other regions in 2026.
Kia's EV Day is finally here, and it brought another of the company's EV concepts to the forefront. The Kia EV2 is set to be the B-segment entry point into the brand's battery-electric offerings.
While this is a concept, Kia hasn't commented on the EV2's powertrain or battery pack. This compact Kia will probably ride on the company's e-GMP platform. Despite not pushing any details about the powertrain to the public, Kia did say that the EV2 will feature vehicle-to-load charging, which could be another sign that this upcoming EV will ride on the company's modular platform.
Even though there isn't a lot about the EV2's powertrain, Kia did show off some creative packaging solutions for this small concept. This EV concept sports reverse-opening rear doors to help rear passengers more easily hop into the rear of the cabin.
That rear seat can also fold upward to make more space for taller individuals to push the sliding front bench seat back as far as possible to make space for long legs. This concept also features pop-up luggage dividers and removable door speakers, like the Toyota Tacoma's center dash speaker.
If you're wondering if Kia is going to build the EV2, that's an easy one: Yes. The company plans to launch this compact BEV crossover in Europe and other markets in 2026. It's hard to say if other markets are a reference to the United States, but only time will tell.
Do you think that that Kia should bring the production version of the EV2 to the U.S.? Tell us your thoughts below.

Hyundai wants Ioniq 5 owners to pay to fix a keyless entry security hole
Hyundai is now offering an 'optional' security upgrade for the Ioniq 5 in the UK that prevents the car being stolen with a Game Boy-like device. Hyundai wants some Ioniq 5 owners to pay a £49 ($65) to upgrade hardware and software components to prevent thieves using handheld devices to unlock and start cars without needing a key. Kia, Hyundai, and Genesis EVs have been under attack in the UK and elsewhere in recent years thanks to a sophisticated Game Boy-like handheld device that cracks the wireless protocols used by Hyundai Motor Group on vehicles like the Ioniq 5, original EV6, and Genesis GV60. Hyundai is now offering a paid upgrade for Ioniq 5 owners in the UK, which it promises will upgrade both software and hardware components for a 'customer contribution of £49.' You can check to see if your Ioniq 5 needs this upgrade here, but there hasn't been a similar bulletin for US vehicles yet. It's not clear why Hyundai is asking customers to pay for the luxury of having their cars protected against a flaw in Hyundai's own security mechanisms, particularly as the car maker offers a five-year warranty on its vehicles. We've reached out to Hyundai to comment on this security upgrade. Hyundai's upgrades are designed to protect against a rise in thieves using a handheld device, which was reportedly designed by hackers in Europe to resemble a Game Boy. It's been used for at least five years, and works on a variety of cars that use keyless entry systems. The Drive reported in 2020 that the device can intercept the signal emitted when you touch a car's door handle, allowing it to crack the algorithm and send back a signal so the car thinks a legitimate key is present and unlocks the doors. The same manipulation technique then works to start the car and steal it, and it's as easy as hitting a button instead of performing a relay attack to amplify the signal of the legitimate key. While these Game Boy-like devices cost around €20,000 in Europe, they've been widely used to steal a variety of Kia, Hyundai, Nissan, Gensis, and Mitsubishi cars in recent years. Hyundai's Ioniq and Kia's EV6 models were even among the most stolen cars in the UK in 2024, demonstrating just how vulnerable these cars are to this type of attack. Security researchers also found a flaw in Kia's web portal last year that allowed attackers to unlock and start cars. It was part of a series of security flaws that have been reported to Hyundai Motor Group, the owners of Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis brands. Hyundai and Kia agreed to a $200 million settlement over the 'Kia Boys' attacks that allowed thieves to bypass a vehicle's security system using a USB cable. Kia recall of over 137,000 Soul, Selto vehicles audited by NHTSA
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that it has opened an audit of the remedy for a recall of certain Kia vehicles. The agency announced Aug. 6 that it would conduct an audit into over 137,000 2021-2023 Seltos and Soul vehicles that were recalled in February for piston oil rings that may have been manufactured incorrectly. Dealers were to replace the engine free of charge if necessary, federal safety regulators said at the time, and also install piston-ring sensing noise software free of charge. The agency said that its Recall Management Division has conducted a review of 47 complaints lodged between April and June that allege that the remedy is ineffective and unavailable. The recall was originally caused by a quality deviation by supplier of the piston oil ring, according to the recall report. The faulty piston rings may damage the surface of the cylinder wall over time and lead to increasedoil consumption. If a recalled vehicle continues to be driven in this condition, the engine damage caused by the increased oil consumption can cause engine failure or, in limited cases, a fire. Drivers of a recalled vehicle affected by the defective piston oil ring may see increased oil consumption, hear abnormal engine noise and see the oil pressure warning light illuminate.
