OPEN// PM: Gov't continues customs reform to improve investment climate
CAIRO, May 18 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said that the government continues to develop its customs system, including expanding the Advance Cargo Information (ACI) system, to improve import procedures and support investment.
These remarks came during a meeting with many ministers and customs officials to review progress.
During the talks, the attendees discussed steps being taken to reduce clearance times and streamline customs procedures, especially for production inputs.
These include upgrading digital systems, expanding pre-clearance services for approved companies, and improving coordination across logistics centers.
For their part, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Affairs and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel Al Wazir, and Minister of Finance, Ahmed Kouchouk, confirmed that electronic classification tools, automated systems, and integration with the 'Nafeza' platform are being implemented.
Between January and mid-May 2024, the total value of cleared goods reached $105.3 billion, including $43.5 billion in production materials and $26.4 billion in strategic goods.
The government aims to accelerate the rollout of the system to further cut delays and support the industrial sector. (MENA)

OPEN// Navy receives first RAstar 3200 ASD tug from Alexandria Shipyard Co.
CAIRO, June 5 (MENA) - Vice Admiral Ashraf Atwa, Commander of the Navy and Chairman of the Marine Industries and Services Organization (MAISO) has witnessed the handover of "Ras El Hikma" tug of the Azimuth type "RAstar 3200 ASD" — the first of three tugs being built for the Egyptian Navy. The tug was built at the Alexandria Shipyard in cooperation with the French classification society BV, under a contract agreement between the Navy and the Alexandria Shipyard Company. This comes in light of the political leadership's directives for localizing national industries and the Armed Forces General Command's commitment to continuously developing military capabilities and equipment. CAIRO, June 5 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said Egypt pays attention to fostering cooperation with Rwanda in various fields and elevating bilateral relations to higher prospects. Abdelatty made the remarks on Thursday in a phone call with Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Olivier Nduhungirehe. The top Egyptian diplomat called for building on the fruitful cooperation between Egypt and Rwanda in the economic and trade fields, which in turn serves the two countries' interests and pushes efforts aimed at achieving development and stability in Africa. The two ministers addressed the latest regional developments, along with challenges facing the African continent, where Abdelatty underlined the importance of calming the situation in the Great Lakes, to contribute to restoring stability in the region.
