Gogo Skhotheni celebrates ‘a new chapter' in her life after her baptism
A week after renouncing ubungoma, Gogo Skhotheni fully embraced Christianity.
Gogo Skhotheni, real name Tumi Motsoeneng, shot up trends lists after videos of her 'preaching' and leading a congregation in song wearing a white tight-fitting dress at a church went viral.
In the videos she can be heard saying: 'Lord, we are asking for forgiveness for our sins. We are praying for our households. Send down your angels.'
An online prayer session set to take place on May 17 has also been shared on social media.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Gogo Skhotheni confirmed she wanted to host prayer sessions, saying despite facing a backlash and criticism from some of her followers she remains committed to her new spiritual path.
'This is real,' she said.
She has been using her sangoma name Gogo Skhotheni as her stage name. She said she was not willing to change it as she had done good business with it.
'I'm not willing to change my stage name because I've worked hard for the Skhotheni brand, not only as a sangoma but as an entrepreneur and DJ, so I am not going to change it any time soon. I won't listen to anyone rushing me to do it.'
The reality TV star faced a backlash from some of her initiates online when she announced she was no longer a sangoma.
'They need help more than I do. I am 10 times ahead with my mental health so it doesn't break me. It hurts because these are people I've taken as my own children, so seeing such hurts me, but that does not stop me being myself. We move on.'

We spoke to the rising star about his music and future ventures: How would you describe the sound of the single Let Me Love You? The sound is unapologetically Afrobeats. It's what I love because it is chilled and just about spreading positive vibes. You could have chosen to make any genre — why Afrobeats? I started off doing hip-hop music and as time went by I fell in love with Afrobeats and found my style. Growing up I listened to a lot of reggae music but I just couldn't get myself to make reggae. I wanted something that was antithetically African and not limiting. Something that could put Africa on the map. How long have you been making music and what keeps you motivated? I started at church — I was in the choir and this is where I received my foundation. I once performed at a huge church service with more than 60,000 people at the FNB Stadium and that is where I saw myself as a global superstar. I went for it — I have been making music now professionally for three years. Who and what inspires you and who do you wish to work with in future? There are a lot of people who inspire me, but life and everyday situations are the inspiration in my music. People who have been influential in my brand, sound and style, and I also know I will soon work with them, are Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy. What are some of your career highlights? Man, I have done a lot. My album Karolina reached one million streams on Spotify — that was a proud moment. I can also say working with some of the top artists in the country has been an achievement. Connie Ferguson speaks on how she is taking SA to the world with 'Kings of Joburg' season 3
When King of Joburg made its debut on Netflix in 2020, it changed the tapestry of South Africa's film industry, transcending conventional boundaries. Ahead of the premiere of its highly anticipated third season, the executive producer of the show, actress Connie Ferguson has spoken about what people can expect to see in the action-packed show. 'There was only one objective [with season 3], it was to outdo season one and season two. We had exceptional seasons but this is our third. We had a lot of learnings from season one and season two, now we had to come back and show exactly what the kings of Joburg are made of,' she told TshisaLIVE. 'Based on season one and season two, you guys think you know what to expect but trust me, you do not know what's coming. It's an all-round entertaining and adrenaline rush type of show, something that you've never seen before in SA, that's all I can say.' Connie went on to speak about the vision and journey of Ferguson Films with the show. 'You can achieve so much more when you collaborate with other people when you are not working on your own. Ferguson Films has done a lot of local productions working with my late husband Shona Ferguson and myself. 'We created Kings of Joburg, we had a bigger picture, we wanted to cross over the borders of SA, we didn't just want to focus locally. We got together with the producer Samad Davids, we sat, brainstormed together, talked about taking SA to the continent and to the world, and bringing the world to SA. I believe that's exactly what we did with this show.' The series has featured American stars. American actress and director Terri J. Vaughn played a pivotal role and now, in this coming season, Malik Yoba is set to make his debut on the show. American film producer and director Samad Davis, who has always been part of the show, spoke of how he's proud to see and be a part of something that can compete internationally. 'Hollywood is not a destination, it's a level of execution. This is Hollywood, this is what Hollywood is about. It's not about making it to LA, it's about doing great work where you are. These actors can work anywhere on this planet and they are fantastic. Just as much as we have rockstars on the show, there are other people working hard behind the scenes.'
