Creating informed and creative generations The event, held on Thursday, is part of a series of events organised by APC in Sharjah for its parliamentarians. This event is part of the comprehensive vision established by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to support Arab children and create informed and influential generations, qualified to shape their future with knowledge, awareness, and responsibility. Youth studio Programmes included a comprehensive set of specialised workshops distributed across several tracks, the most prominent of which was the "Youth Studio" track, which included the "Animation" programme. Participants participated in a series of workshops in which they learned the importance of visual presentation and the basics of drawing. They also learned how to use the "Procreate" programme and produce professionally animated scenes, enhancing their artistic abilities and connecting them to modern digital technologies. Miniature world The "Miniature World" workshop opened the horizons of photography for child parliamentarians. They received training in photo-taking skills, controlling lighting and angles, and visual expression using the camera. This also enhanced their creativity and imagination in producing images that express their own vision of beauty and the moment. Creative writing In the Creative Writing track, parliamentarians participated in the "Short Story Writing" programme as part of the "Speaker" programme'. They learned how to express their ideas and experiences in an engaging literary style, while also training in condensation, abbreviation, and scenario formulation techniques. This provided them with the opportunity to enter the world of authorship and writing with awareness and professionalism. Artistic field In the artistic field, the workshops featured a rich variety of activities, most notably the "Pottery Shaping" workshop, which allowed participants to practice an important visual art that complements Arabic calligraphy. They learned how to shape pottery using creative methods that can be applied to paintings or sculptures, adding a new aesthetic dimension to their craftsmanship. Architectural model Children also participated in creating geometric models through the "Architectural Model" workshop, where they designed three-dimensional models of realistic buildings using wood chips. This enabled them to interact with design and construction concepts, connect imagination with urban reality, and instil their engineering thinking and spatial planning skills. Science and technology In the field of science and technology, parliamentarians undertook a unique technological experience in the "LEGO Robotics" workshop, which focused on introducing them to the design and construction of robots and how to interact with them in a practical way. This enhanced their programming skills and connected them to the world of modern technology and logical thinking. On the vocational front, the children received practical training in the "Auto Mechanics" workshop, which introduced them to home maintenance skills, from plumbing and carpentry to technical repairs. This training framework connects them to daily life skills that enhance their independence and ability to deal with simple challenges in their daily lives. APC members engaged greatly with these workshops, showing remarkable enthusiasm and a willingness to learn new things. These activities provided a fertile ground for self-discovery and expanding horizons of knowledge, reflecting the advanced approach adopted by the Rubu' Qarn Foundation and Sharjah Youth in caring for children and youth. Unique collaboration In this context, His Excellency Ayman Othman Al Barout, Secretary-General of APC, expressed his pride in this unique collaboration with the Rubu' Qarn Foundation, emphasising that these programmmes represent a strong start to their meeting in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, as part of the second session of the Parliament's fourth term. With a range of educational experiences designed to bring history and ancient heritage to the forefront, the park serves as a perfect escape for those interested in expanding their historical knowledge and wonder; whether it's families and the general public, academic institutions, or cultural enthusiasts and history buffs; allowing them to come closer to history. Established through the visionary leadership of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah; and developed and operated by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), Mleiha National Park safeguards over 34.2 square kilometres of pristine and awe inspiring landscapes, a gateway to Arabia's ancient legacy, grounded in decades of meticulous research and findings led by the Sharjah Archaeology Authority (SAA). Ancient cosmopolitan hub Revealing Mleiha's extraordinary scientific value, this area has been excavated since 1973 with collaborative efforts from leading archaeologists from around the world. Through the years SAA has announced discoveries including Stone Age tools from Jebel Faya documenting ancient human migration, a monumental 4,500-year-old Umm an-Nar tomb preserved intact beneath the park's Archaeological Centre, along with compelling evidence of a powerful trading kingdom that thrived between the 3rd century BCE and 3rd century CE, as referenced in Greco-Roman texts. Among the most striking finds is Arabia's only known ritual horse-and-camel burial, a testament to the site's unique cultural practices. Mediterranean amphorae, locally minted coins inspired by those of Alexander the great and his Seleucid successors' currency, and South Arabian inscriptions further attest to Mleiha's role as an ancient cosmopolitan hub. Through a unique partnership; with Shurooq delivering world-class visitor experiences and sustainable infrastructure and SAA guaranteeing scientific integrity; this makes Mleiha a global model for heritage tourism. Diverse experiences to enrich the mind Aligned with the park's core ethos of history and education, the Mleiha Archaeological Centre allows visitors to encounter authentic and priceless artifacts. These include a wide range of arrowheads from the stone and iron ages, ancient coins; including those modeled after Alexander the Great's currency; Rhodian wine jars, and ancient inscriptions. With the addition of interactive displays and multimedia presentations, the centre brings the past vividly to life proving an experience that goes far beyond the museum walls. Mleiha also offers a diverse array of educational activities and adventures that transport visitors back in time, making history accessible and engaging for all age groups. Programmes like the 'Fossil Fun Expedition' invite young explorers to become paleontologists for the day, crafting fossil casts from real finds and learning about ancient seabeds and the creatures that once inhabited them. Interactive workshops such as 'Sounds of the Past' allow participants to experience ancient tool-making techniques, while the Valley of the Caves Tour and Jebel Buhais Tour immerse visitors in the daily life and burial practices of Neolithic and Iron Age communities. For those fascinated by the wonders of the universe, the Space Camp workshop offers an engaging introduction to astronomy and observational techniques through hands-on activities, where participants use high-powered telescopes to explore celestial objects in the night sky. One of the highlights of the workshop is the chance to create a model comet using dry ice and various compounds, simulating the makeup of real comets while discovering their significance within our solar system. These tailored educational programmes also ensure meaningful learning for every age and interest, where school groups engage in hands-on discovery through supervised fossil hunts and archaeological sites explorations, making history tangible and intriguing. University students and researchers are able to delve even deeper with specialised programmes analysing ancient trade systems or settlement patterns. For families and groups, activities that combine adventure with learning, guide guests across archaeological sites, geological formations, and hidden wadis, and the Standard Educational Package provides a comprehensive introduction to the region's flora, fauna, geology, and archaeology, with hands-on workshops and guided site visits that cater to students and lifelong learners alike. It showcases rare books gifted by His Highness from the collection of the late Professor Richard Ettinghausen, comprising over 12,000 volumes in Islamic history, art, and sciences. Spanning over 13 centuries of intellectual contribution, the exhibition showcased the remarkable contributions of Muslim travellers and scholars such as Ibn Khordadbeh, Al-Istakhri, Ibn Hawqal, Yaqut al-Hamawi, Ibn Jubayr, Ibn Battuta, and Ibn Majid. It illustrated how travel writing evolved from personal narrative into a disciplined science, with defined purposes, methods, and tools, that advanced cartography, navigation, and cross-cultural dialogue. Marwa Al Aqroubi, HoW Executive Director, remarked that the 'Travelogue' exhibition was more than a showcase of manuscripts and maps, it was a journey into the intellectual legacy of Islamic civilisation, bridging generations with the Arab world's rich contributions to human and geographical sciences. The strong public response, she noted, reflects a growing appreciation for the roots of a civilisation whose impact still resonates today. She added: 'HoW remains dedicated to crafting cultural experiences that reimagine the region's scientific and intellectual heritage through a modern lens—fostering pride, inspiring new generations, and positioning Sharjah as a global stage for cultural exchange and historical insight.' The exhibition unfolded across four thematic The exhibition unfolded across four thematic sections. The first traced the rise of ' Ilm al-Masalik wa al-Mamalik (Science of Routes and Kingdoms) during the Abbasid era, spotlighting the intellectual drive behind this unique genre and the meticulous efforts of Muslim travellers who mapped the world into precise geographic and administrative zones. The second showcased Al-Idrisi's remarkably accurate medieval maps, landmarks in cartographic history that guided European geographers for centuries. The third offered a closer look at ancient maritime tools like the astrolabe, sextant, and octant, reflecting the ingenuity of Muslim navigators. The final section explored how modern technologies, like aerial photography and GIS—are breathing new life into travel writing today. Running alongside the exhibition was a vibrant programme for children and youth, featuring hands-on workshops inspired by the spirit of exploration. Designed to spark curiosity and imagination, sessions included 'Design Your Travel Journal,' 'Ibn Majid: Lion of the Sea,' and 'World Stage: Ibn Battuta's Journeys,' helping young minds rediscover the value of storytelling, mapping, and cultural exchange. The exhibition was brought to life through a meaningful collaboration with the Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre, the Sharjah Museums Authority, the Manuscripts House in Sharjah, and the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies in Saudi Arabia.
