The state cabinet on Tuesday approved Rs 773 crore project for upgradation of
Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital
(MYH), giving boost to Indore's medical education and healthcare infrastructure. A restoration project for Lalbagh Palace worth Rs 47.59 crore was also approved.
The sanctioned funds would be utilised for a new hospital building, a mini-auditorium, nursing hostel, parking and external development work within the MY hospital complex.
The project is expected to provide better healthcare services to patients and offer advanced learning facilities to students of
Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College
.
The restoration project for Lalbagh Palace would include construction of a boundary wall, pathways, parking facilities, soft-scaping and irrigation systems, public amenities, ticket counters, a garden café, an open-air stage, a pavilion, Rani Ahilyabai Self-Defence Centre (for girls), external electrification, decorative light poles, a pipe music system for gardens, and CCTV surveillance, among other features.
Chief minister Mohan Yadav also visited Lalbagh Palace on Tuesday, where he paid tributes to Subedar Malharrao Holkar, founder of Holkar dynasty. The CM also reviewed progress of conservation efforts for this heritage site. He was briefed on the palace's unique features, including the meeting room, crown hall, banquet hall, durbar hall, kings' office, consultation room, western meeting room, Indian dining rooms for both men and women, and the ballroom.
The project will prioritise preservation of the garden and Holkar heritage, aiming to revive the garden as a hub of social and cultural activities. Funded under the Simhastha Fund, the project will be executed by Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation and is slated for completion by May 2027.
Earlier, in the morning, the CM visited zoo and released a male King Cobra, brought from Pilikula biological park in Karnataka, into the snake park. Until now, Indore zoo only had a female cobra.

The World Bank's assessment, based on the $3.00 per day international poverty line (using 2021 prices), shows a broad-based reduction across both rural and urban areas. While the overall extreme poverty rate fell to 5.3%, if measured by the earlier $2.15 poverty rate (based on 2017 prices), only 2.3% of the Indian population lived in extreme poverty in 2022–23, down from 16.2% in 2011–12. This effectively lifted 171 million people above that specific poverty line. This sharp decline was uniformly observed, with rural extreme poverty falling from 18.4% to 2.8% and urban extreme poverty reducing from 10.7% to 1.1% between 2011–12 and 2022–23. JAMMU: J&K lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha lavished praise on PM Narendra Modi Friday for making the 'Kashmir-to-Kanyakumari slogan' a reality and carrying forward what he said was 'a socio-economic revolution in J&K' since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. 'He has connected the hearts of millions of Indians, forging an unbreakable bond from north to south,' Sinha said in Katra after PM Modi inaugurated the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link and flagged off the Valley's first Vande Bharat Express service. The LG said the world's tallest railway bridge, built over the Chenab, and Anji rail bridge were representative of this progress. 'The skills of our engineers to build the Chenab and Anji bridges, and the toil of our workers who carved a rail route through the mountains have eliminated the gaps that existed between India's crown jewel and the rest of the country.' Sinha pointed out that since April 2022, the PM had commissioned or inaugurated Rs 1.15 lakh crore worth of projects for J&K.

Relief for parents as notebooks cost less after raw paper prices fall
Pune: Parents across Pune are breathing easier this school season after a noticeable drop in the prices of notebooks and school stationery. The academic year will begin in 10 days for most govt and private schools and the markets are bustling. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The price reduction is largely due to a steep fall—around 40 to 50%—in the cost of raw paper imported from abroad. This led to a 15 to 20% drop in the prices of notebooks, registers, and other paper-based school materials. Retailers confirmed that notebooks which cost ₹400–₹450 per dozen last year are now available for ₹300. A4-size notebooks, earlier priced at ₹600 per dozen, are now being sold at ₹450–₹480. Drawing books, which were ₹42, are now ₹32 per book. However, prices for felt pens and whiteners remained unchanged. "Prices have come down by at least 10-15%," Rajiv Chandak of Trimurti Traders said. "Medium-quality A4 notebooks that sold for ₹540 are now ₹450. We've revised our cash memos to reflect the new rates." Sachin Gaikwad of ABC Stationers added, "Last year, A4 notebooks were priced between ₹700 and ₹800 depending on the brand. This year, they are available for as low as ₹300. It's a 5–8% dip across various formats." Nikhil Shah of Bombay Book Manufacturing Company said, "Paper rates have stabilised. Last year, during the peak season, prices shot up. This year, the same A4 notebook from a top brand like Classmate, which cost Rs 75, is available for Rs 65." Kothrud resident Suhas Kulkarni said, "We have two school-going children, so every rupee matters. Compared to the last year, our stationery bill is down by nearly 20%. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now It's a big relief. We could buy everything—bags, notebooks, lunch boxes—within our budget." Kondhwa resident Vaishali Kedari said, "Usually, we spend a lot on notebooks and registers. But this year, the prices are really reasonable. We didn't have to cut corners and were able to buy everything our daughter needed without stress." With school reopening just a week away, shopkeepers expect more crowds during this weekend and over the next week. For now, the price correction is happy news.
