OpenAI takes another swing at Google Search, brings shopping to ChatGPT

India Today29-04-2025

OpenAI on Monday announced that its users can now directly shop via the ChatGPT app. This is a feature added to the ChatGPT Search mode, which will allow users to search for anything on the web via ChatGPT, and it will show relevant options across the web – just like how you would shop using Google Search. 'We're excited to announce we've launched several improvements to ChatGPT search, and today we're starting to roll out a better shopping experience,' OpenAI wrote in a post on X. The company says it wants to make 'shopping simpler and faster to find, compare, and buy products in ChatGPT'. The feature will be available in ChatGPT's default 4-o model.advertisementThe AI company has also announced that the ChatGPT Search feature is currently its most popular and the fastest growing feature. OpenAI says it has seen more than 1 billion searches using ChatGPT Search mode in just the past week. 'Search has become one of our most popular & fastest growing features, with over 1 billion web searches just in the past week,' says OpenAI.The company says, with the update, ChatGPT will show 'improved product result, visual product details, pricing, and reviews, direct links to buy'. Also, the company says none of these listings that it will show in results will be ads. 'Product results are chosen independently and are not ads.'
OpenAI says the updated shopping feature is now gradually rolling out to Plus, Pro, Free, and even logged-out users across all regions where ChatGPT is available. The rollout is expected to be completed over the next few days.

At the time of writing this story, we also tested the shopping feature, and it appears OpenAI is still ironing out a few issues. When we used it – on a ChatGPT free account – it did display a few options; however, not all the attached links were functional or accurate. For instance, a recommendation for Petsy included a link to a news publication instead. One of the suggested websites was even out of service. That said, the tool did provide some accurate and working links—for example, to Amazon India, Poochmate, and Heads Up For Tails. We also haven't seen any visual product details yet. That is probably because the updates have not reached our account yet. If you open your ChatGPT and face a similar experience, then wait for a few days and then try again. Along with the shopping feature, OpenAI has also updated Search in WhatsApp. OpenAI says its users can now send a WhatsApp message to 1-800-ChatGPT (+1-800-242-8478) to get up-to-date answers and live sports scores. ChatGPT has also improved citations, so that it can now provide multiple citations within a single response, helping you explore or verify information from a wider range of sources. There is also a new 'highlight' interface which is aimed to make it easier to see exactly which parts of the answer each citation supports.
The trending and autocomplete searches have also been added to ChatGPT. 'You can search faster with trending searches and autocomplete suggestions,' OpenAI says. We tried these out and both the updates worked for us. OpenAI's move to roll out shopping in ChatGPT Search comes just days after the AI company expressed interest in buying Google's Chrome browser, should the US Department of Justice force its sale. Even before the trial, OpenAI had been challenging Google Search's dominance, with the launch of ChatGPT Search marking the first step in that effort.

AI godfather Geoffrey Hinton reveals the surprising jobs safe from automation — and the roles everybody will lose soon

Geoffrey Hinton is called the "Godfather of AI" because of his important work on neural networks. He used to work at Google. Hinton talked about AI and jobs in an interview on the "Diary of a CEO" podcast aired on June 16, as per reports. He said AI will one day be better than humans at everything. But for now, some jobs are safer. Jobs that need physical work, like plumbing, will stay safe for a long time. Hinton said, "It will take a long time for AI to be good at physical tasks... so being a plumber is a smart choice," according to Business Insider. Which jobs will AI replace soon? Gen Z workers are increasingly choosing blue-collar jobs like plumbing because the job market is very tough. For boring or routine intellectual jobs, AI will replace almost everyone. Hinton, "For mundane intellectual labor, AI is just going to replace everybody." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brought to you by Undo Paralegals are at high risk of being replaced by AI. Working in call centers is very risky, Hinton said he'd be "terrified" if he worked there. To keep a job safe from AI, people need to be very skilled. Hinton says, "You would have to be very skilled to have an AI-proof job", as stated by Business Insider. Hinton sees mass job losses caused by AI as the biggest threat to people's happiness right now. Even if governments give universal basic income, people might still feel unhappy because they lose their sense of purpose without work. Hinton advocates UBI but worries about loss of purpose. Live Events Mass job displacement by AI is likely and is already happening in some ways. AI is starting to take over jobs that recent college graduates used to get. Some people think AI won't fully replace entry-level jobs, but will help humans do those jobs better, as mentioned by Business Insider. Hinton agrees some jobs will be done by humans working with AI assistants, but that means one person will do the work of 10 people, leading to big job cuts. Healthcare jobs might handle AI changes better because there's always high demand for healthcare. Hinton said, "A few areas, like healthcare, will be able to absorb the change." But most jobs are not like healthcare and will not be able to absorb AI disruptions well, as per the report by Business Insider. FAQs Q1. Which jobs are safe from AI? Jobs that need physical work like plumbing and healthcare are safer from AI. Q2. What kinds of jobs will AI replace soon? AI will replace many routine office jobs like paralegals and call center workers.

AI-enabled CCTV cameras to curb illegal parking on roads leading to airport

Pune: The airport authorities, in coordination with the Pune traffic police and the AeroMall officials, will install AI-enabled CCTV cameras on the New Airport Road and the VIP Road (Symbiosis College Road) within a couple of months to monitor and penalise illegally parked vehicles. Pune airport director Santosh Dhoke told TOI that a feasibility study was under way. "It will take some more time, after which the final report will be ready. We had initial talks about the project with an agency. Based on the final report, these cameras — recently installed on FC Road — will be put up here too," he said. Y S Rajput, the vice-president of AeroMall, told TOI, "The agency recently gave a presentation on the functioning of the cameras, and we hope to get these soon. During the late evening hours, both these roads are clogged most of the time. Private cars and cabs are parked on either side. There have been many complaints about the same." Airport officials said a total of 3-4 such cameras could be installed by the end of August. "Both these roads are important for access to the airport. Illegal parking on these roads has been a problem for a long time. It is mainly done in the late evening and night hours, when police personnel are not present," another airport official said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? Once a vehicle is tracked, its registration number will flash on the screen. Around a minute will be given to the vehicle owner to remove it, failing which an online challan will generate automatically without zero human interference, ruling out chances of arguments," another airport official said. Vimannagar's frequent flier Sushil Pandey said during the rains, the situation becomes tougher. "These roads are narrow and illegally parked vehicles cause a major problem. It took me almost an hour to go from the AeroMall to the Wiekfield Chowk, a distance of around 300 to 400 metres, earlier this month because it was raining and vehicles, mainly cabs, were parked on both sides of the road. Cab drivers enter the AeroMall only when they get a long trip," the IT professional said. Prashik Ojha, another frequent flyer, said, "Owners of even costly cars don't want to spend money on parking at the AeroMall or at another private parking lot on the VIP Road, right before the AeroMall. I have seen the police taking action against these in the daytime, but it is a free-for-all type of situation at night. Even autorickshaws are parked anywhere in front of the airport, hindering vehicles' movement," the working professional said. TOI reported earlier this month that the airport authorities were planning to introduce a time-bound entry system at the facility to curb congestion. The airport director said they were planning a system under which any private vehicle found parked in the circulating area of the terminal building would be fined Rs500. "We are conducting a detailed study on the system at present, after which it will be sent to the headquarters for approval," Dhoke said.

World's top fighter jets like Rafale and F-35 can't match this super material of China, it can withstand temperatures up to..., it's made...

(Representational image: AI generated) New Delhi: Till now you must have heard a lot of stories about the agility of Rafale and the strength of fighter jets like America's F-35. But now China has developed such a miraculous material that can withstand extreme heat up to 3600°C without melting, burning and breaking. If fighter planes or spacecraft are made from this in the future, then it will be difficult to even imagine their strength. According to a report in the South China Morning Post, Chinese scientists have prepared a highly heat-resistant ceramic by mixing four metals hafnium, tantalum, zirconium and tungsten. This material remains stable even in extreme temperature conditions like 3600°C, whereas America's fighter jets and SpaceX's spacecrafts start trembling only around 1300°C. The gas stove in your kitchen heats up to about 200°C and the heat shield of NASA's space shuttle can withstand heat up to 1300°C. But this new ceramic prepared by China can withstand almost three times more heat than that. The secret of its strength is hidden in the oxide layer formed inside it, which protects the material from both oxygen and fire. Especially tungsten plays an important role in this, which stands firmly against oxygen. Till now, rockets or hypersonic tunnels were used for testing such materials, which was very expensive and risky. But the Chinese team has developed a laser-based high-throughput system that can quickly test the material in heat up to 3800°C. Just hit the laser, see the effect and record the data. This weapon will be used in many places. On the nose of hypersonic missiles, in the outer layers of spacecraft, in jet engines and for plasma protection in the semiconductor industry. It can be used in future areas where the temperature is very high and normal materials are not useful. While America's advanced jets are limited to around 1300°C till now, this new ceramic from China can prove to be many times more powerful than them.
