Ajay Devgn says newcomers from non-film families are ‘misguided' in expecting instant stardom: 'Cannot be a star on day one'

Time of India18 hours ago
Ajay Devgn, promoting 'Son of Sardaar 2', credited his father Veeru Devgan for shaping his work ethics. He said newcomers from non-film families often get misguided, expecting instant stardom. Ajay emphasized, 'You cannot be a star on day one; first, you need to be an actor,' highlighting the need for hard work.
While promoting their comedy film 'Son of Sardaar 2' on
Archana Puran Singh
's YouTube channel,
Ajay Devgn
and
Mrunal Thakur
talked about Ajay's journey in the film industry. Ajay opened up about how growing up with his father, stunt choreographer Veeru Devgan, shaped his understanding of the business.
He also shared why, in his view, newcomers without a film background often struggle or get 'misguided' in their careers.
Family Support During the Conversation
With Archana were her husband, actor Parmeet Singh, and their sons Ayushmann and Aaryamann, as they joined the conversation with Ajay and Mrunal. The discussion naturally turned to Ajay's cinematic upbringing, prompting a question about insights gained from his father, action choreographer Veeru Devgan.
Ajay stated, "Whatever I've learnt technically and about the industry is all because of him. The kind of dedication he had and what he taught me…the honesty towards work, all of it comes from him.
"
Why the Industry Prefers Film Families
Archana shared her perspective on why the film industry often favors newcomers from established film families, explaining, 'You know, this is one of the reasons that the film industry prefers people to come in from film families because they already learn professional ethics from their parents.'
Ajay nodded in agreement and added, 'You get to learn a lot.'
Misconceptions Faced by Outsiders
He went on to explain that many individuals entering the film industry from outside often have a distorted understanding of how it functions. 'I am not talking about everybody because there are sensible people, but a lot of times, they come in not knowing if they want to be an actor or a star. You cannot be a star on day one; first, you need to be an actor,' he said.
Ajay highlighted that this confusion leads to misconceptions about the industry, particularly for those without a film family background, adding, 'So, I think there's a misunderstanding somewhere for people; they are misguided about the industry…those from outside film families.
I think ultimately, it's your hard work.'

Triptii Dimri on missing out on action in Dhadak 2 and beating up Siddhant Chaturvedi on the side

Triptii Dimri revealed that while filming the intense romantic drama Dhadak 2, she and Aditya Thackeray created a lighthearted side-project they jokingly called Dhadak 3. Feeling left out of Siddhant Chaturvedi's action scenes, they improvised their own action sequences, even roping Siddhant in to be playfully defeated. Director Shazia Iqbal was initially confused by their antics during serious scene shoots. While Dhadak 2 is being touted as a more intense, layered, and emotionally rich sequel to the 2018 romantic hit, it seems the mood on set wasn't always all serious. During an exclusive interview with ETimes she opened up about the behind-the-scenes antics that brought some unexpected levity to the shoot — including an impromptu side-project she jokingly calls Dhadak 3. WATCH In a candid and humorous revelation, Triptii shared how she and co-star Aditya Thackeray often found themselves on the sidelines while Siddhant was busy filming high-octane action scenes. "Siddhant used to have all these action scenes for the film," she said, recalling the slight envy — or as she calls it, 'FOMO' — that she and Aditya felt. "So me and my friend Aditya Thackeray — he's also playing a friend in the film — we used to feel left out. " What started as harmless banter soon evolved into full-on improvisation. "We were like, 'Let's just make our own film,'" Triptii laughed. "We would go in a corner and start making our own action film where we were fighting, pretending to shoot scenes." The funniest twist? Siddhant, the hero of the actual film, would sometimes join their mock scenes — only to end up on the losing side. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Many Filipinos don't know about this! Triptii recalled how director Shazia Iqbal would walk in on their spontaneous mini-movie-making with complete confusion. "She'd be like, 'What the hell is going on? We are doing a serious scene here!'" Triptii said, grinning. Their response? "We told her, 'We're making Dhadak 3! Why haven't you given us any action scenes?'" The film is set to release on August 1st, earlier it was supposed to be a solo release but it is now clashing with Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur 's Son of Sardaar 2 . It was earlier supposed to release on August 25th but moved ahead because of the dream run of Mohit Suri , Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda 's Saiyaara. The film with newcomers has already become the 5th biggest hit of 2025.
