Former Edmonton radio host Chris Scheetz stepped onto the ferris wheel at KDays with the hope of raising funds for chronically-ill children while simultaneously attempting to obtain the world record for the longest time spent on a ferris wheel.
Scheetz concluded the Wheel of Dreams fundraiser after 54 hours on the KDays ferris wheel to raise at least $54,000 for Alberta Dreams, a charity that fulfills dreams of children with severe chronic or life-threatening medical conditions.
The three-day fundraiser, which ran from Monday to Wednesday, raised $70,886 for Alberta Dreams, said a Friday news release.
'Explore Edmonton is proud that KDays served as the home for the Wheel of Alberta Dreams Challenge. Congratulations to the entire Alberta Dreams team, especially Chris Scheetz, on the success of the fundraiser,' said Arlindo Gomes, vice-president of business development and venues management at Explore Edmonton.
Alberta Dreams executive director Reuel Thomas thanked Albertans in the release for helping their team surpass the initial goal.
'It is a resounding statement that children and their families are loved and supported by their fellow Albertans, and this support will provide hope, joy and inspiration that dreams do come true,' Thomas said.
'None of this would have been possible without the incredible support from the entire team at Explore Edmonton, who adopted our mission and worked tirelessly to make every aspect of the project a success.'
Donations are being accepted until the end of KDays next Sunday. Details can be found at albertadreams.ca.

TORONTO, ONTARIO - FEBRUARY 01: Justin Bieber participates in the Tim Horton's NHL All-Star Player Draft at Scotiabank Arena on February 01, 2024 in Toronto, Ontario. (Photo by Dave Sandford/NHLI via Getty Images) Justin Bieber's surprise album Swag might not debut at No. 1 on several Billboard rankings the pop star was hoping to conquer, but that doesn't mean the project isn't successful. The surprise release opens in the runner-up spot on the Billboard 200, coming in behind JackBoys 2, the latest full-length from Travis Scott and his group JackBoys. While Swag's starting position might be slightly disappointing for Bieber, the collection produces more than a dozen new hits on the Hot 100. As the Canadian singer-songwriter ups his career total, he joins some elite company and passes one of the most successful R&B artists of all time. 16 New Hot 100 Hits 16 of the 21 tracks featured on Swag debut on the Hot 100 this week. None of the tunes were released ahead of the album's arrival, and some weren't eligible as they were either too short or spoken word interludes. With 16 new hits to his credit, Bieber lifts his career count to 121 Hot 100 smashes. Justin Bieber Passes Chris Brown Thanks to this influx of new wins, Bieber jumps into the top 10 on the list of artists with the most Hot 100 hits. He narrowly edges past Chris Brown, who currently claims 119 appearances, though these figures are known to shift regularly, and the R&B powerhouse could snag new placements on the tally at any point. Justin Bieber and Travis Scott Advance Together At the same time Bieber increases his career total, Travis Scott does the same. Several cuts featured on JackBoys 2 debut on the Hot 100, giving Scott a total of 131 career appearances. He now sits in ninth place among all acts. Drake leads all musicians with 359 Hot 100 entries, followed by Taylor Swift with 264 and Future with 224. 'Daises' Almost Debuts at No. 1 'Daisies' is the biggest hit from Swag, and it nearly brought Bieber back to the summit of the Hot 100. The tune, which has been selected as the lead single from the album, launches in the runner-up position on the tally, coming in behind only 'Ordinary,' Alex Warren's breakout smash. Seven of the 16 songs from Swag that appear on the Hot 100 this week debut inside the top 40. Several musicians join Bieber with his roundup of just-shared tunes, including Sexyy Red, Gunna and newcomer Eddie Benjamin, among others.
