Mikel Arteta adds Aston Villa star to Arsenal's new four-man transfer shortlist
Morgan Rogers starred for Aston Villa as they reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League, attracting the attention of Arsenal who are set for a busy summer transfer window Morgan Rogers has emerged as a target for Arsenal following a stunning season with Aston Villa. The midfielder fired in 14 goals and registered 15 assists in all competitions, including scoring a hat-trick against Celtic in the Champions League. His peformances for Villa earned him a place in the England squad, making his debut in the defeat to Greece last November, as well as a nomination for the Premier League's Young Player of the Year award. His displays in the Midlands have caught the eye of Gunners boss Mikel Arteta. After a third successive runners-up finish in the Premier League, Arteta is desperate to finally take his side over the line and win their first title since 2004. A striker has long been assumed to be the top target, with Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko both heavily linked with a move to the Emirates. Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is also closing in on joining the Gunners. Despite the Spaniard arriving in a £51million deal, it appears Arteta is keen to further boost his midfield options. Jorginho has already departed on a free transfer, while negotiations with Thomas Partey over a new deal are ongoing. Even while those talks continue, Arteta is bidding to strengthen in that area of the pitch. According to The Times, Rogers has been added to a shortlist of four players Arsenal will look to target. Arteta is keen to bring in a left winger, a forward, a centre-back and a midfielder in addition to Zubimendi this summer. Rogers' versatility makes him an attractive player to the Gunners boss. The 22-year-old has featured in attacking midfield, at striker and out wide for Villa. But it would take a bumper offer to prise him away from Villa, with his contract having another five years to run. Feyenoord's Igor Paixão is also on the list and would be a cheaper alternative to Rogers. Bayern Munich 's Leroy Sané and Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams complete Arteta's shortlist. The Gunners are said to have held talks with the representatives of Williams and Sané. The latter is out of contract at Bayern Munich though would likely demand an expensive wage package. Williams meanwhile has a £42million release clause, but is expected to demand a salary of more than £250,000 a week. Rogers has previously made it clear he is happy with life at Villa, having won the club's Young Player of the Year award. 'Never a moment's rest,' he said in March as he hailed boss Unai Emery. 'When you probably least expect it is where he'll catch you out, telling you about yourself. For me personally, I wouldn't change it. "It's what you need sometimes, when you've had a few good games, sometimes you might not be as at it, that 1 per cent. He will make sure that 1 per cent is nipped in the bud straight away. He always drags the best out of you."

Red Bull won't rule out another F1 driver swap with Yuki Tsunoda on shaky ground
Red Bull have already given Max Verstappen two team-mates so far this season after Liam Lawson was dropped for Yuki Tsunoda and a third is not beyond the realms of possibility Christian Horner insists it is still "early days" for Yuki Tsunoda as a Red Bull Racing driver. However, the team principal failed to rule out the possibility of another driver swap before the current Formula 1 season is out. And Red Bull have already dropped one team-mate to Max Verstappen in 2025, which is how Tsunoda got the seat in the first place. He was promoted from sister team Racing Bulls to take over from Liam Lawson, who was demoted just two rounds into the season after buckling under the pressure. Lawson didn't score a point at all for Red Bull so, on the face of it, the seven managed by Tsunoda since the swap is an improvement. But it is still nowhere near the sort of output the team needs from its second car. The last two races were particularly bracing for the Japanese racer. He crossed the line 17th in Monaco, that second car's worst Grand Prix finish of 2025 so far, including Lawson's results, before qualifying 20th and last for the Barcelona race last Sunday. Speaking afterwards, Red Bull team principal Horner was non-committal when asked if Red Bull could make another driver change before the year is out. "I think I'm going to take a leaf out of Flavio's [Briatore, Alpine boss] book and say, 'I don't want to answer it'," he laughed. But then he gave a real answer: "Look, it's early days for Yuki. He's still settling in. He's been in Q3, scored points, he's scored points from the pit lane. He's had a few incidents as well, so he has a long way to go. We'll decide. We've got plenty of time on our side." Tsunoda is out of contract at the end of the year. He has been strongly linked with a move away from the Red Bull stable having impressed with his development since debuting in the sport in 2020, but failing to land a promotion to the top team until this year – even initially overlooked in favour of Lawson despite being far more experienced. More pressure is coming the Japanese's way as a result of impressive performances from another Red Bull driver, though, Isack Hadjar is one of several rookies on the F1 grid this year and has been one of the best performing, producing consistent qualifying results which he has converted into 21 points to date for Racing Bulls. The last two races brought his best results yet, sixth place in Monaco and seventh in Spain. And Horner told French TV that he is delighted with the start the Parisian youngster has made since stepping up from Formula 2. "I think he's been the most outstanding of the rookies," the Red Bull boss said. "The expectation on him wasn't as high as he's delivered so far. He's exceeded all our expectations, he's been fast, he's been consistent. He's constantly delivered, and I think it's been a great start to his Formula 1 career. He just needs to keep that momentum running. His future, if he keeps performing as he is, is very bright."

Legendary defender names the manager Man Utd must replace Ruben Amorim with
Iconic former AC Milan and Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly says Manchester United 'need' to hire Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique. The Spaniard enjoyed a sensational season with PSG, winning the Champions League, Ligue 1 and Coupe de France. The French champions were superb in Europe, knocking out Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal before thrashing Inter Milan 5-0 in the final. Clearly PSG have no intention of letting the 55-year-old leave after the immense success of the last campaign, but Desailly reckons Manchester United should be trying to tempt him away from Paris. The 116-cap France international knows that things change quickly in football and the dream situation Enrique is currently in with PSG could turn sour in the near future. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. Desailly feels Manchester United should be ready to replace Ruben Amorim with the Spaniard whenever possible. 'Football moves quickly and say that next season he makes too many mistakes, he might get into conflict with players like Bradley Barcola and Desire Doue as they grow and have a bigger say on the system,' Desailly told Oddspedia. 'Soon they will be able to say no to the coach and his influence and because anything can happen, he might end up in the Premier League. 'We are talking about something that didn't happen 20 years ago, but tactical coaching is now in the Premier League thanks to Claudio Ranieri and Jose Mourinho and so many other coaches. The Premier League has grown. 'Luis Enrique would bring a new dynamic and if I was at Manchester United, I'd be asking Luis Enrique to come to my club. 'They have tried all kinds of coaches and now all eyes are on Enrique because he can build a philosophy from scratch. Manchester United need Luis Enrique.' Speaking in 2023, Enrique made it clear that he would like to manage in the Premier League at some point in his career. 'I have a special attraction – I would like to go to England to work,' he said. 'I follow English football a lot, more than Spanish football. 'In the Spanish league, I do follow the biggest teams and little else – but it's very difficult for it to happen.' It would certainly be a huge coup for the Red Devils as Enrique is now rated as one of the very best managers on the planet. His treble with PSG is the second of his career having achieved the feat with Barcelona in 2015 as well. While Desailly says Manchester United should be looking to bring in Enrique, he has suggested that Red Devils defender Leny Yoro could be best served by leaving the club. More Trending Desailly rates the 19-year-old very highly, but says that it is hard for any player to shine at Manchester United at the moment. 'It's so difficult for Leny Yoro in the Manchester United system,' said the World Cup winner. 'If you look at Pau Cubarsi for Barcelona, he came into a team with a clear winning mentality. 'When you come to Manchester United at the moment, things are not smooth. You can prove that you're good, but for how long? 'They are not the best conditions for Yoro, but when you look at him you can see that he has the ability to become a top defender.'
