Mohit Suri shares story of Ahaan Panday's shelved debut film before Saiyaara

Ahaan Panday is currently enjoying the success of 'Saiyaara', but director Mohit Suri recently shared that the actor's debut journey wasn't as smooth as it seems. Amid the growing hype around Ahaan's breakout performance in the romantic drama, the filmmaker shared that the young star was originally set to debut in a different, larger-than-life film. The movie was ultimately shelved due to the changing dynamics of the post-pandemic film industry.advertisementIn a conversation with Komal Nahta, Suri said, 'Ahaan had actually been workshopping with YRF for seven years. He was supposed to do a larger-than-life film before the pandemic. But the project was cancelled, because, as you know, the industry changed."The setback hit Ahaan hard, with Suri adding, 'Overnight, his pride and 'guroor' were killed. The same kid who was going around telling everyone that he would be launched by YRF was heartbroken. People started saying to him, 'You were bragging about being launched by YRF, what now?''
Despite the disappointment, Ahaan's belief in the banner remained firm. Mohit shared, 'I know that Adi sir called him after the pandemic, and told him that his faith in his talent hadn't lowered even one bit, but that he could start looking for opportunities outside the studio if he wanted to. 'You don't need to hang on here, you can look for work elsewhere', he was told. But the kid was adamant that he could only be launched by YRF, and it worked."'Saiyaara', released on July 18, 2025, has become a runaway success at the box office. The romantic drama, featuring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has already become a box office hit.The film follows the story of Krish Kapoor, a struggling musician, and Vaani Batra, a poet with a soulful heart, as they go through love, heartbreak, and healing. Ahaan and Aneet's chemistry has been widely loved by the audience, especially the youth.- EndsTrending Reel

Kingdom box office collection day 1 early report: Vijay Deverakonda starrer starts strong, but lags behind Liger

Kingdom box office collection day 1 early report: Vijay Deverakonda's highly anticipated spy-action drama Kingdom hit theatres worldwide on July 31. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film got off to a strong start, earning Rs 7.07 crore on its opening day. Kingdom recorded an overall occupancy of 56.73% in the Telugu language on Thursday, with morning shows at 63.56%, afternoon shows at 56.52%, and evening shows at 50.12%. The highest theatre occupancy was reported in the Warangal region, at an impressive 85.67%.' Despite earning Rs 7.07 crore at the box office so far, Kingdom may fall short of Vijay Deverakonda's highest opener, Liger, which collected Rs 15.95 crore on its first day. The film is also facing stiff competition from Mohit Suri's Saiyaara, starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, which has already crossed the Rs 270 crore mark. Several other releases are crowding theatres as well, including Pawan Kalyan's Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Part 1 – Sword vs Spirit and Mahavatar Narsimha. Dhadak 2, starring Tripti Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Son of Sardaar 2 are also set to hit screens on August 1. It would be unfair to suggest that the makers of Kingdom have misled their audience all along, because the resulting film contains just what was advertised. However, despite the painstaking setup, Kingdom never truly tethers us emotionally to its story. Though the film juggles many elements, it never settles on a central thread to bring them into harmony.' Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri and produced by Sithara Entertainments, Srikara Studios, and Fortune Four Cinemas, Kingdom also features Satyadev, Bhagyashri Borse, Venkitesh and Manish Chaudhari.

Exclusive: Mohit Suri Reveals His Wife And Paap Actor Udita Goswami, A DJ Now, "Is Asked To Play Saiyaara At Gigs"

New Delhi: The Saiyaara wave is everywhere from box office records to club dancefloors. Director Mohit Suri, in an exclusive chat with NDTV, revealed that the film's massive success has reached his home in the most unexpected way: his wife Udita Goswami, who's a DJ now, is getting flooded with requests to play the Saiyaara soundtrack at gigs. "Yes, my wife is a DJ, suddenly everyone is asking her to play Saiyaara," Mohit said with a smile, acknowledging the surreal moment the entire family is experiencing. The filmmaker added that while his wife has always been his biggest support system, this success feels like her moment just as much as his. "She has known me for the last 22 years. It's very difficult being in her position because the highs are not that high sometimes and the lows are very low but you still have to be there supporting," he said. For the unversed, Udita Goswami made her debut in the Hindi film industry with Pooja Bhatt's Paap (2003). She acted in Mohit Suri's directorial debut Zeher with Emraan Hashmi. She went on to act in films like Aksar, Dil Diya Hai, Kisse Pyaar Karoon, Apartment. But she left films a decade ago and became a DJ. Mohit, who married Udita after a decade of being in the film industry, said the couple skipped holidays and made sacrifices while he was working on Saiyaara. "There's always that one love you share which is your obsession with your film. She made all those sacrifices and never made it difficult for me," he said. Their daughter is now enjoying the spotlight too. "She suddenly realised I'm famous and she's loving the paps covering us. The last time when she was spotted, started making her hair and I was like what are you doing?" he laughed. "My son didn't care much. He's like what is happening?" Meanwhile, Saiyaara minted Rs 273.50 crore at the domestic box office within 13 days of its release. Globally, it crossed the Rs 400 crore mark.
