USMNT prospect Kevin Paredes requires surgery on broken foot
The 22-year-old Wolfsburg winger had reported back fit for pre-season and featured in the Bundesliga side's initial summer friendly fixtures.
But during training he felt pain in the right foot which surgeons operated on last season, and opted for a new procedure from a Munich specialist.

Paredes, who has made three international appearances and impressed for the U.S. in their 2024 Paris Olympics campaign, was restricted to just two performances for his club last season.
He is hoping to have recovered and be available for selection again by the start of November.
This latest injury means he will miss the chance to be part of four USMNT fixtures; the upcoming games against South Korea and Japan in September, before Ecuador and Australia in October.
'It's hard to go through this again,' Paredes wrote in a statement on Instagram. 'Unfortunately, I had to undergo another operation on the same foot that put me out of action last season. But I remain focused on my recovery and am determined to come back stronger. I'll be back soon, ready to give everything for my team!'
A Wolfsburg statement says the club 'will have to do without the services of Kevin Paredes for the foreseeable future after the US winger had an operation on his foot on Monday.
'The procedure went smoothly and VfL would like to wish Kevin a full and speedy recovery.'
Paredes has scored three goals across 57 Wolfsburg appearances since a January 2022 switch from D.C. United.
Paredes now has less time to grab Mauricio Pochettino's attention and force his way into the World Cup squad.
He must get fit and replicate the league form of 2023-24 which saw him make 28 Bundesliga appearances, scoring three goals.
That breakthrough earned him his international call-ups under Gregg Berhalter. The versatile wide midfielder, who can play on either flank or as a wing-back, is still hoping to make up for lost time and form part of Pochettino's wide options for the national team's March warm-up games ahead of the home soil tournament that begins in June.

DENVER (AP) — Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit a three-run homer in the first inning, Eduardo Rodriguez pitched a season-high seven innings and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Colorado Rockies 8-2 on Thursday night. Arizona improved to 60-62, winning for the sixth time in seven games and the ninth in 12. Rodriguez (5-7), who had allowed five earned runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Rockies five days earlier, matched his longest outing since October 2023. He gave up one run and struck out six.
