#SHOWBIZ: 'Fifty Shades of Grey' director James Foley dies at 71

LOS ANGELES: Filmmaker James Foley passed away at the age of 71.
The director's passing was confirmed yesterday following a battle with brain cancer.
It was reported that he passed away on Tuesday at his home here.
His publicist explained to The Hollywood Reporter that Foley "died peacefully in his sleep earlier this week" after a "years-long struggle" with the disease.
He was best known for helming films that include Fifty Shades of Grey: Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed as well as Who's That Girl starring Madonna.
Aside from his cinematic work, Foley also worked with the Queen of Pop on her Live to Tell, Papa Don't Preach and True Blue music videos under the name Peter Percher and was the best man at her wedding to now-former husband Sean Penn in 1985.
After graduating from New York University and then USC in Los Angeles, he was able to jumpstart his career thanks to a chance meeting.
He told Film Freak Central: "I was very lucky, and in the perverse calculus of Hollywood I was in the last year of film school and shared a house with a guy. There was a woman who was pursuing my friend so we had this film school party, which consisted of people projecting their student films onto a white wall and getting stoned.
"And this girl came. Hal Ashby was pursuing her - she was pursuing my friend and Hal was pursuing her - and Hal called her up and asked to come to this party full of film students. Just as he walked through the door, my film was showing on the wall. I'll never know whether he was being polite or anything, but he told me he liked it and stuff and he was going to form a company that was going to produce other people's movies and what did I want to do? I could write something and direct it."

Loni Anderson, ‘WKRP in Cincinnati' star, dies at 79

LOS ANGELES, Aug 4 — Loni Anderson, best known for her role as Jennifer Marlowe on WKRP in Cincinnati, died Sunday at age 79 in Los Angeles from 'an acute prolonged illness'. Her death was confirmed by publicist Cheryl J. Kagan, according to The Hollywood Reporter (THR). Anderson, a two-time Emmy nominee, rose to fame playing the savvy radio receptionist in the sitcom created by Hugh Wilson. Before that, she appeared in shows like S.W.A.T., Police Woman, Barnaby Jones and Phyllis, and had auditioned for the role of Chrissy Snow on Three's Company. THR reported that she initially turned down the WKRP role, saying in a 2020 interview, 'I don't want to play this part because she's just here to deliver messages and is window dressing.' Creator Hugh Wilson asked her how she'd approach it, and they reimagined the character: 'Let's make her look like Lana Turner and be the smartest person in the room.' Anderson's Jennifer broke the 'dumb blond' mould, refusing to do secretarial tasks and standing out as sharp and self-assured. She appeared in all but one of the show's 90 episodes from 1978 to 1982. Born August 5, 1945, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Anderson was the daughter of Klaydon, an environmental chemist, and Maxine, a model. Naturally dark-haired, she once said, 'I loved being a brunette… there was a mystery. When acting, I could be the bad lady.'
