'I tried the Ninja Woodfire and it's a total game changer for BBQs'
The outdoor electric Ninja oven will change the way I BBQ from now on.
With temperatures warming up, many are gearing up for BBQ season. Summer is the perfect time of the year to start enjoying outdoor life and what better way to do that than eating meals in the garden.
Householders will have taken the time over the spring to clean and decorate their gardens for upcoming summer fun with friends and family. However, one thing that should be on top of your summer list is a BBQ. Ensuring you have the right equipment to cook for your guests will elevate your parties.
When we think of a barbecue, we think of the smoky flavours and charcoaled meat, but with that comes a bit of a mess. It can sometimes feel like a chore to stand for hours making sure your charcoal is at the right temperature before adding your meat, only for you to turn your back for a split-second and realise you have burnt the burgers.
It's a faff that some people might not think is worth it. So, what if there is a way of still having what feels like an authentic BBQ, with the fuss?
Ninja is known for being king of the air fryers for your kitchen, but it's outdoor cooking equipment is less well known. Reporter Chris Hall recently tested the Ninja Woodfire, which describes itself as an 'electric BBQ grill and smoker', to see if it was any good.
Chris said he was 'blown away by the experience' and believes the garden appliance is worth the price tag. The Ninja Woodfire usually retails for £299.99, but there's currently a £50 discount from Ninja that makes it more attractive – and cheaper than it's retailing on Amazon.
If you are after a more traditional barbecue, the Weber compact kettle charcoal grill is currently £87 on Amazon, down from £114.99. The retail giant also has the CosmoGrill Outdoor XL Smoker Barbecue for £159.99, which offers extra cooking space.
Writing about his experience for Chronicle Live. Chris said: "The Ninja Woodfire is a versatile device, offering a wide range of cooking functions. These are controlled by the dial and buttons on the front, so it's really easy to preheat and cook exactly to your specifications.
"Unlike a charcoal barbecue, like the traditional Weber you could buy from Amazon, lighting it is no hassle at all, so you'll be ready to cook in about 15 minutes. The clever part – and the bit that gives the Woodfire its name – is that there's a hopper on the side of the lid where you can add flavoured wood pellets.
"These will ignite and burn, with the smoke being drawn into the Ninja and circulated with your food. That adds a great aroma, it adds flavour and it adds a little excitement to your outdoor cooking.
"Yes, it's not like a charcoal BBQ, but it's closer than a normal electric BBQ like this plug-in model from B&Q."
Explaining how the Ninja Woodfire works, Chris said: "There's a heating element in the bottom and one to the top of the lid, so it can cook from both sides. There's a fan in the lid to circulate the heat like an air fryer and that also circulates the smoke for that BBQ flavour.
"The base of the Ninja Woodfire has a griddle plate for cooking on, meaning your steaks or burgers will be seared like they are on a BBQ, but there's no open flames, you're not going to have a grease fire – in fact, excess fats drain off into a tray underneath."

Chris said the Woodfire comes "mostly assembled" so "getting started takes no time at all". While there is a model that includes a stand, Chris revealed that he has just been using it on his garden table.
And "best of all", according to Chris, the Ninja gadget comes with a recipe book "that's not only filled with great ideas to feed the family, but it also tells you what settings to use for a full range of foods – ribs, wings, veggies – as well as telling you how to use the Woodfire's other functions."
Chris continued: "Because it's versatile, you can use it as a smoker, using those wood pellets (you get two packets free) to flavour your food with a long and low temperature cook, while you can also roast a whole chicken (it's big enough), bake, dehydrate or reheat your food.
"All you need is an external plug socket – no gas, no charcoal – and there's very little mess. The cooking plate comes out for easy cleaning, but it's not dishwasher safe, so you'll have to do it by hand.
"If there's a downside to the Ninja Woodfire, it's the size of the grill. You'll just about feed a family of four using it, but if you're planning a BBQ in your garden, then you can only cook about 16 sausages at a time, so for a large gathering, you might need something bigger."
The Ninja Woodfire is sure to be popular this summer, so shoppers can snap it while there's £50 off the price.

Protesters say Jeff Bezos's Venice wedding highlights growing inequality
This weekend's star-studded Venice wedding of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez has galvanised activist groups which are protesting against it as a sign of the growing disparity between the haves and have-nots as well as disregard of the Italian city's residents. About a dozen Venetian organisations – including housing advocates, anti-cruise ship campaigners and university groups – have united to protest over the multi-day event under the banner 'No Space for Bezos', a play on words also referring to the bride's recent space flight. Advertisement They have staged small-scale protests, unfurling anti-Bezos banners on famous Venetian sites. A large banner against Amazon founder Jeff Bezos's planned wedding in St Mark's Square in Venice (Greenpeace via AP) They were joined this week by Greenpeace and the British group Everyone Hates Elon, which has smashed Teslas to protest against Elon Musk, to unfurl a giant banner in St Mark's Square protesting over purported tax breaks for billionaires. 'If you can rent Venice for your wedding you can pay more tax,' read the banner, which featured a huge image of Mr Bezos. Police quickly took it away. Advertisement There has been no comment from Mr Bezos's representatives on the protests. The local activists had planned a more organised protest for Saturday, aiming to obstruct access to canals with boats to prevent guests from reaching a wedding venue. Then they modified the protest to a march from the train station after claiming a victory, asserting that their pressure forced organisers to change the venue to the Arsenale, a more easily secured site beyond Venice's congested centre. 'It will be a strong, decisive protest, but peaceful,' said Federica Toninello, an activist with the Social Housing Assembly network. Advertisement 'We want it to be like a party, with music, to make clear what we want our Venice to look like.' Lauren Sanchez and Jeff Bezos (Evan Agostini/Invision/AP) Among the 200 guests confirmed to be attending the wedding are Sir Mick Jagger, Ivanka Trump, Oprah Winfrey, Katy Perry and Leonardo DiCaprio. Venice, renowned for its romantic canal vistas, hosts hundreds of weddings each year, not infrequently those of the rich and famous. Previous celebrity weddings, such as that of George Clooney to human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin in 2014, were embraced by the public. Advertisement Hundreds turned out to wish the couple well at City Hall. Mr Bezos has a different political and business profile, said Tommaso Cacciari, a prominent figure in the movement that successfully pushed for a ban on cruise ships over 25,000 tons travelling through the Giudecca Canal in central Venice. 'Bezos is not a Hollywood actor,' Mr Cacciari said. 'He is an ultra-billionaire who sat next to Donald Trump during the inauguration, who contributed to his re-election and is contributing in a direct and heavy way to this new global obscurantism.' Advertisement Critics also cite Amazon's labour practices, ongoing tax disputes with European governments and Mr Bezos's political associations as additional reasons for concern. A gondolier takes tourists along the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy (Luca Bruno/AP) Activists also argue that the Bezos wedding exemplifies broader failures in municipal governance, particularly the prioritisation of tourism over residents' needs. They cite measures such as the day-tripper tax – which critics argue reinforces Venice's image as a theme park – as ineffective. Chief among their concerns is the lack of investment in affordable housing and essential services. City officials have defended the wedding. Mayor Luigi Brugnaro called the event an honour for Venice, and the city denied the wedding would cause disruptions. 'Venice once again reveals itself to be a global stage,' Mr Brugnaro told The Associated Press, adding he hoped to meet Mr Bezos while he was in town. Meanwhile, a Venetian environmental research association, Corila, issued a statement saying Mr Bezos's Earth Fund was supporting its work with an 'important donation'. Corila, which unites university scholars and Italy's main national research council in researching Venetian protection strategies, would not say how much Mr Bezos was donating but said contact began in April, well before the protests started.

Amazon slash £100 off Samsung Galaxy S24 that offers 'superfast' performance
This model is dubbed a 'true powerhouse' and is £200 cheaper than the newer S25. Samsung is one of the most popular tech companies affiliated with Android smartphones. As the major rival to Apple, the tech firm is determined to launch the most high spec technology onto the market. With watches, tablets and earbuds included in their range, many shoppers are loyal consumers of the brand. However, while many people want the latest release to hit the market, many of us aren't able to afford the hefty price tags. Therefore, when considering buying a new smartphone, it may be worthwhile to look into slightly older models that are for sale. For instance, Amazon has slashed £100 off the Samsung Galaxy S24, which was released back in January 2024. Normally retailing for £699 for the 128GB version, shoppers will now be able to buy the smartphone for £599 in a limited-time deal. Running on the latest operating system, Android 15, shoppers can buy the Galaxy S24 at the discounted rate in either amber yellow, cobalt violet, marble grey or onyx black. Shoppers will also get to experience Galaxy AI features with S24, such as photo editing, translation and converting voice recordings to text. Samsung Galaxy S24 £699 £599 Amazon Buy Now Product Description Users will also get a crisp and clear image on the 6.2-inch screen as it boasts a FHD+ screen resolution, which is perfect for playing games, scrolling through social media or binge watching a show. The device was also created with durability in mind as it comes with space-grade Armour Aluminium and a IP68 dust and water resistance rating. Also hailed to have a smarter all-day battery that provides users with more watch time, this smartphone also boasts an impressive 50MP battery that is equipped with a three times zoom. This allows users to capture enhanced shots with vivid detail no matter the distance. However, for those who are wanting the snatch up the Samsung Galaxy S25, Amazon has also slashed £100 off the newer device too. Normally retailing at £799 for the 128GB model, shoppers can now buy it for £699 in a limited time deal. Alternatively, Apple lovers can now snap up the iPhone 14 Plus with 256GB of storage for £200 off the retail price at Argos. Normally priced at £799, shoppers can now buy the 2022 release for £599. Available in six colours, this phone features a 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR display and is powered by the A15 Bionic chip. Amazon shoppers have given the Samsung Galaxy S24 a 4.4 star rating. While some of the reviews are from last year when the phone was released, many shoppers were pleasantly surprised by the quality of their upgrade. One happy shopper said: "Moved up fron S22+ to this beauty. The S24 is a great phone; slim, powerful, and the migration took just 15 minutes for all apps and files from my old phone. Performance is super fast. The price deal is really good also." With another five-star reviewer adding: "I changed from S20 to this phone, works perfectly and battery lasts quite a lot. Very happy with it. The additional space is great since no sd space, but it is manageable." However, one shopper grumbled: "Great phone but needs charging a lot." While a more recent shopper said: "The phone is genuinely good, but with the release of the S25 I don't think there is a compelling reason to go for exynos variant of the S24. I mean, the performance of the S25 is much better and battery life remains comparable, if not slightly better." Despite this, one delighted reviewer noted: "Loved my previous Galaxy so much I kept it longer than usual. Upgraded to the Samsung 24 and boy, the improvements, I didn't know I needed but are sooooo good. Camera is great picture quality, charging is alternate days. "Value for money, well, this phone has so many great features to list that you'll need to buy one to know it's true performance." With a sixth shopper adding:"This is a good upgrade to my S10 with much improved battery life, responsiveness, 5G, better camera and of course updated software. So far I am very pleased with the phone, especially at the heavily discounted price!" To buy the Samsung Galaxy S24, click HERE. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
