Epic Games settles lawsuit against Samsung over app controls
Epic in a court filing dismissed its claims against Samsung in an antitrust case it filed against both companies last year in federal court in San Francisco, California. Epic also withdrew some related allegations against Google.
Samsung, the world's largest Android phone manufacturer, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Epic's court filing did not describe the terms of the settlement, and the company declined to provide more information.
'We are grateful that Samsung will address Epic's concerns,' Epic chief executive Tim Sweeney said Monday in a post on the social media platform X.
Google had no immediate comment. Both companies had denied wrongdoing.
Epic's lawsuit focused on Samsung's mobile security feature Auto Blocker, which Epic said was intended to deter users from downloading apps from sources other than Google Play or Samsung's Galaxy store.
A narrow part of Epic's case will continue against Google over what Epic said were continued efforts to dissuade users from downloading apps from sources other than Play.
Fortnite, a battle royale game released in 2017, is one of the world's most popular video games.
In a separate case, Google has appealed a jury verdict and court ruling won by Epic that would require Google to overhaul its app store.

It was Zebsi's disruptive acts, despite a modest number of 2,000 followers, that brought him under serious legal scrutiny. An apology video followed soon after in which Zebsi showed remorse; however, due to the very brief written apology and a seemingly indifferent tone, most viewers were left disappointed. Another banned player, Mirrored, admitted to cheating in competitive matches as well as distributing those cheats to others. With only 200 followers on his YouTube channel, Mirrored posted a typed apology, accepting his lifetime ban and warning others not to distribute cheats. "I would like to apologize to the Fortnite community. I understand the consequences of my actions and will not be involved in cheating again." Google Discover feed gets AI summaries on Android and iOS
Google has been constantly rolling out new AI features to its search engine, and now the tech giant is bringing AI summaries to Discover, the main news feed in the Google search app. Available on both the Android and iOS versions of the app, the new feature replaces headlines from major publications and instead displays an AI-generated summary with a logo of news publications in the top left corner, along with the sources it picked up the information. If you tap on the overlapping icons on the top left, it will reveal a 'More' button that shows all the linked articles. The feature also shows a three-line preview before users tap on the 'See more' button to expand the AI-generated summary. Google also displays a warning saying that its AI-generated content 'can make mistakes'. According to TechCrunch, AI summaries are not appearing for all news stories in the Google app, and when the publication reached out to Google to determine if it was a test, a company spokesperson confirmed that it is currently rolling out to those living in the United States. As it turns out, AI summaries will focus on trending lifestyle topics like sports and entertainment, with Google claiming that it will make it easier for users to determine which pages they want to visit. Apart from adding AI-generated summaries in Google Discover, the company is also working on a new way to showcase news in Discover, which includes showing bullet points below the headline. However, this does not bear the label generated by AI label.
