NHL News: Lightning Terminating Forward's Contract

Yahoo29-06-2025
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Tampa Bay Lightning have placed forward Conor Sheary on waivers for the purpose of contract termination. In addition, Friedman noted that Sheary asked to have his contract terminated so he can look for another opportunity to play in the NHL again.
Sheary, 33, was entering the final season of the three-year, $6 million contract he signed with the Lightning during the 2023 NHL off-season.

Sheary played in just five games for the Lightning this season, where he had zero points, four penalty minutes, and a minus-4 rating. He spent the bulk of the campaign in the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch, recording 20 goals, 61 points, and a plus-15 rating in 59 games.
Given Sheary's past success, there certainly could be a team out there willing to take a shot on him with a one-year, prove-it deal in free agency.
In 62 games over two seasons with the Lightning, Sheary recorded four goals, 11 assists, 15 points, and a minus-5 rating.

Steelers vs Bucs: Tampa to play starters vs Steelers reserves

Last week, the Jacksonville Jaguars played every healthy player they had against the Pittsburgh Steelers, while the Steelers benched all of their top players. This week will be more of the same as Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles announced all of his players would be in action on Saturday aside from linebacker Lavonte David and wide receiver Mike Evans. Meanwhile, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin announced on Thursday that the Steelers would once again bench the bulk of their top players and go in with almost all reserves at the team's most important positions. This includes quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers did not play in the first preseason game. Rodgers signed with the Steelers just days before the start of mandatory team activities so not playing him in the preseason is a risky move given how many new players Pittsburgh has on offense. In addition to Rodgers, the Steelers will be without more than a dozen starters between the offense and defense, including T.J. Watt, Jalen Ramsey, Jaylen Warren and Pat Freiermuth.
