Marcos inspects Pasig-Marikina river channel improvement
The project aims to mitigate floods caused by the overflow of the Pasig and Marikina rivers.
Phase IV involves both structural and non-structural measures to reduce flood damage in Metro Manila and its surrounding areas, aiming to support urban development and promote a sustainable environment along the river.
Its scope of work includes constructing dikes and revetments, installing floodgates, and dredging channels and improving the flood management infrastructure of Metro Manila.
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manny Bonoan said some of the flood-control structures in Marikina City would be finished by 2028.
'We are hoping na itong widening, revetment, baka matapos namin by 2028 pero 'yung Marikina Gate Control Structure baka by 2028 or 2029 siguro,' Bonoan said.

Marcos: Walang lugar ang katiwalian sa kapulisan
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Tuesday vowed that his administration would never condone wrongdoings among police ranks, noting that rogue cops will be dealt with in accordance with the law. During the 124th Police Service Anniversary held at the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame, Marcos said part of the threat to national security are the police officers who had committed wrongdoings and abuse of power. ''Huwag din natin kalimutan na bahagi ng banta sa seguridad ang mga nasa hanay na bumabaluktot mismo ng ating layunin. Aanhin pa ang pinakamodernong kagamitan kung may ilang pulis pa rin ang umaabuso sa kapangyarihan?'' Marcos said during the 124th Police Service Anniversary. (Let us not forget that part of the security threats are the rouge cops who do not abide by their duty. What is the use of the most modern assets if there are some police scalawags?) ''We will continue to investigate and hold these people accountable within the bounds of the law. We do not condone wrongdoings among those who are sworn to uphold the law and to protect the citizens of our Republic. Inuulit ko, walang lugar ang katiwalian sa ating kapulisan (I repeat, corruption has no place in the police force),'' he added. Though the rate of crime incidents had gone down, Marcos said the figure alone could not allay public fear. He said the number of crime incidents from June 2024 to June 2025 decreased as compared to the preceding period. ''As public servants, we do not ask people to celebrate statistics if their experiences tell a different story,'' Marcos said. ''We must regain the trust of the public through more decisive and responsive actions. I believe the PNP is now on its right track,'' the President said. Further, Marcos said the government would continue to modernize the PNP as criminals, at present, use technology for their illegal schemes. So far, the police force has drones and other advanced technologies that complement police operations, enabling the cops' capabilities to protect, to monitor, and to respond with greater precision. ''But technology will never replace the importance of your presence on the ground. These tools are only effective as the men and women who wield those tools,'' Marcos said. ''Be assured that the government stands with you, behind you all – every hour of every day – as you continue to carry out your mission and build a safer and more peaceful Bagong Pilipinas,'' he added. —KG, GMA Integrated News

Marcos tells PNP to ensure immediate response to 911 calls
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. directed the Philippine National Police Tuesday to ensure that someone will respond to calls in the country's latest 9-1-1 response technology. During the 124th Police Service Anniversary, Marcos said that through the revitalized Emergency 911 Hotline, the police force responded to thousands of emergency calls, from police assistance to police interventions as well as search and rescue. ''However, the challenge now is to ensure that—rain or shine, during ordinary days and more so, in times of crisis—there are people who will be ready to answer our people's call for help. This is how we rebuild the trust that the police will come no matter what time, no matter what the circumstance is, they will arrive,'' Marcos said in his speech. ''We owe our people a system that they can rely on,'' the President added. The new 9-1-1 system is from a technology provider that won the bid for a contract worth over P1.4 billion, the police said. Among the features of the latest system is the capability to detect the location of the caller. Earlier, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla called on local government units to enact ordinances penalizing prank callers on the national emergency hotline or 911. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News

Bill seeks to ban LGUs from designating roads as parking, business spaces
'It is no secret that urban areas have become so congested that people tend to disregard order and do things convenient to them," Barbers said in her explanatory note. A bill banning local government units from designating public roads as parking spaces, business stalls, or public transport terminals has been filed in the House of Representatives. Surigao del Norte Rep. Bernadette Barbers proposed her House Bill 933, which also prohibits the use of public roads for parking, business, public utility terminals, and any other activity that tends to impede the free flow of traffic without a permit from the proper authorities. The same bill provides that authorities can only issue permits for the use of public roads during temporary activities. 'It is no secret that urban areas have become so congested that people tend to disregard order and do things convenient to them," Barbers said in her explanatory note. "This bill seeks to regulate the use of sidewalks and public roads, which are meant for the utilization and enjoyment of the general public for the purpose for which they were built,' he added. Barbers said small businesses have used and occupied sidewalks, which endangers pedestrians, while residents who do not have parking spaces in their houses use the streets for their parking lots. She said business establishments that do not have ample parking spaces, on the other hand, use the roads as parking lots for their vehicles as well as their clients, clogging narrow roads and impeding the free flow of traffic. Barbers said the proliferation of public utility terminals on public roads was also a chronic problem because public roads are not built for such purposes. 'It is a fact that the traffic congestion in urban areas results in economic losses amounting to billions of pesos yearly. Should these road obstructions be cleared, traffic flow will ease and a more robust economy will result,' Barbers said. –NB, GMA Integrated News
