St. Louis Battlehawks finish UFL season with league-best 8-2 record
The best UFL city has the UFL's best team.
The St. Louis Battlehawks finished the league's 2025 season with an 8-2 record. That's the best mark in the eight-team league.
The Battlehawks capped the season with a 13-8 win over the Defenders in D.C. The two teams will meet on Sunday with a berth in the UFL Championship on the line.
Last year, the Battlehawks lost in the semifinal round, to the San Antonio Brahmas. The 2025 Brahmas collapsed, winning only one of 10 games.
The winner of the D.C.-St. Louis game will face the winner of Michigan at Birmingham in the UFL title game, which will again be played in St. Louis. The Birmingham Stallions have won three straight championships — two in the reconstituted USFL and in the first year of the UFL, a merger of the USFL and the XFL.
The Battlehawks routinely draw the most fans of any team in the UFL. The fact that roughly 30,000 show up for every game of a spring league that's struggling to resonate nationally should keep St. Louis on the NFL's radar screen, despite the $790 million settlement the league had to pay after moving the Rams in a tangled web of bald-faced lies.

Ex-Auburn tight end Sal Cannella earns postseason nod from UFL
Ex-Auburn tight end Sal Cannella earns postseason nod from UFL Cannella had a great season in Arlington, which led him to receive an all-league honor. Earlier this week the United Football League announced their All-UFL Team that featured a former Auburn Tiger. Arlington Renegades tight end Sal Cannella was named to the team after the productive season. The team was selected by executives, coaches, and broadcasters. It is the second time he has been awarded an honor like this one. In 2022, he was named to the All-USFL Team when he played for the New Orleans Breakers. Cannella finished sixth in the UFL with 474 yards and one touchdown. He was also second in the league with 44 receptions. The Renegades ended their season on Sunday with a 23-6 win over the San Antonio Brahmas. They ended the season with a 5-5 record and missed the playoffs. Canella had five receptions for 86 yards in the finale. Cannella played for the Auburn Tigers from 2017 to 2019 after transferring from Scottsdale Community College. During his time at Auburn, he caught 25 passes for 330 yards and five touchdowns. He was impressive when he had the ball. His head coach was Gus Malzahn, who was not known to feature tight ends often in the passing game. He scored a touchdown for Auburn in the 2019 Iron Bowl. That was a game the Tigers won 48-45. After leaving the Tigers, Cannella bounced around leagues and teams. He has spent time on the practice squads or off-season rosters for the Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has played for Arlington since the 2023 XFL season before the merger with the USFL. The Renegades won the XFL Championship in 2023. He led the UFL in receiving touchdowns in 2024 with six.

Hawaii's Ta'amu looks to lead DC to UFL championship
In his fifth season of professional spring football, Hawai'i's Jordan Ta'amu is once again knocking on the door of a league title. The Pearl City graduate and former Ole Miss quarterback will lead the D.C. Defenders into the United Football League Conference Championship this Sunday against the St. Louis Battlehawks, one of Ta'amu's former teams. Since beginning his pro career in 2020, Ta'amu has tallied more than 10,000 total yards and 72 touchdowns across the XFL, USFL, and now the UFL. Despite earning league MVP honors and spending time with NFL franchises like the Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings, and Houston Texans, a championship has eluded the 27-year-old signal-caller. 'I'm just so excited and happy for our team to be where we're at right now,' Ta'amu told KHON2 Sports. 'Just to continue the journey that I'm still going, still playing, still throwing the rock around, and making my family proud. We get to play at a high level and for something big, a championship. You learn from your past, right? We're trying to rewrite history.' Ta'amu made headlines earlier this season with a highlight-reel trick play, catching his first career receiving touchdown after hurdling a defender on his way to the end zone. 'That was amazing,' Ta'amu said. 'If you haven't seen that trick play, please go watch it. It was probably the highlight of my career, catching it, hurdling somebody, and scoring. I was so hyped. It was definitely a blessing to celebrate that moment with my teammates.' Sunday's conference title game will also feature another Hawai'i connection: St. Louis reserve quarterback Chevan Cordeiro, a Saint Louis School graduate and former University of Hawai'i standout. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. HST and will air live on KHON2. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

2025 UFL MVP Power Rankings: Jordan Ta'amu on top as regular season comes to a close
With the UFL regular season coming to a close, there are just three players to consider for the title of UFL MVP. But one stands above the rest. Here's a look at my updated MVP rankings following Week 10: 3. Arlington Renegades QB Luis Perez Week 10 stat line: 26-of-32 for 283 passing yards Week 10 result: 23-6 win over San Antonio Perez is the only quarterback to start every game for his team this season, which is no small feat in a league that is built around playing 12 consecutive weeks with 10 of those weeks counting toward the regular season. For the second year in a row, Perez has won the UFL passing title. This year, he did while being the only passer to complete at least 70% of his passes. Had the Arlington Renegades made the playoffs, Perez might've won the UFL MVP for his consistency in excellence alone. As it stands, the 2023 XFL champions enter this offseason with a .500 record but with the foundation to push for their first UFL playoff appearance next season. 2. Michigan Panthers QB Bryce Perkins Week 10 stat line: N/A Week 10 result: 19-12 loss to Houston Despite missing three games this season, UFL coaches still opted to name Perkins to the All-UFL team — the only QB to receive that honor. With that acknowledgment, it's clear that the Panthers wouldn't be a postseason team for a second year in a row if not for Perkins' efforts as a backup and then a starter for Mike Nolan's team. His 1,342 passing yards with nine passing and four rushing touchdowns is remarkable given the sample size in a league that is defined by its quarterback play. Frequently, the strength of that position will give an indication of the ceiling the team has, and Perkins' play demonstrated that, as the Panthers are capable of winning their first UFL championship. 1. DC Defenders QB Jordan Ta'amu Week 10 stat line: N/A Week 10 result: 13-8 loss to St. Louis No player has been more important to his team's winning than Ta'amu. Had he not sat out the final game of the season, Ta'amu might've finished No. 1 in passing yards and touchdowns. Through nine games, Ta'amu was the only player to throw for more than 2,100 yards while averaging 13.9 yards per completion. The Defenders did not finish as strong as they started, but their signature wins came early. Ta'amu led them to a Week 1 victory against the defending UFL champs, who they could meet in the UFL title game. Then in Week 3, he led them to a 27-15 win against the St. Louis Battlehawks in St. Louis. No doubt, Ta'amu will remember that when the Defenders and Battlehawks meet again this weekend in St. Louis for the XFL Conference Championship.
