Naidu sets target of building 10 lakh houses March 2026
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has set an ambitious target of completing 10 lakh houses by March 2026 under various housing schemes, reaffirming his government's commitment to providing every poor family in Andhra Pradesh with a home. At a review of the Housing Department at the Secretariat on Wednesday, Mr. Naidu instructed officials to fast-track construction. He announced that 3 lakh families would perform house-warming ceremonies next month, while another 2 lakh houses would be completed and handed over by Sankranti. Projects were to be classified into three categories (A, B, and C) for efficient execution. Mr. Naidu directed a 15-day Statewide survey to identify homeless families and prepare a beneficiary list. As per government assurances, two cents of land in towns and three cents in villages would be allotted to the eligible families. He also suggested joint housing models for larger families, and emphasised phased funding to complete pending NTR Housing works. According to officials, the government had spent ₹2,013 crore in the past year on housing projects. Out of 18.59 lakh sanctioned houses, construction of 9.51 lakh had been completed, including 2.81 lakh houses in the last 12 months. By next month, another 19,000 houses would be ready. In addition, the government is preparing to release ₹919 crore to 2.73 lakh beneficiaries, alongside funds for PMAY (Urban & Gramin) and PM Janman schemes. On the TIDCO housing front, of the 4.54 lakh houses tendered in 2018, about 1.77 lakh had been completed, with 84,094 houses now in their final stages. The Chief Minister said priority would be given to infrastructure works such as roads and drainage in layouts where over 50% of houses were complete.

Bhubaneswar: The Union Cabinet's approval on Tuesday for the Rs 8,307 crore Capital Region Ring Road has paved the way for early commissioning of the proposed Bhubaneswar New City project, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Wednesday. Speaking to media persons here, Majhi said that the Ring Road will create a larger Capital Region spanning Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Dhenkanal, Choudwar and Banki, establishing it as a growth centre. While another internal ring road has been planned for the capital city. "This infrastructure will support Bhubaneswar's growth as an IT, textile and semiconductor hub," he said. Govt sources stated that the concept would be presented to the ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA) under the Urban Challenge Fund. The project envisions a model city that is inclusive, vibrant and resilient, designed to optimise land value and achieve international branding. In the Union Budget 2025-26, the Centre has allocated Rs 10,000 crore to the Urban Challenge Fund to implement proposals for 'Cities as Growth Hubs', 'Creative Redevelopment of Cities' and 'Water and Sanitation'. The fund will finance up to 25% of the cost of bankable projects. Odisha hopes to secure funding for the new city project from the same. In Jan, Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and a global real estate consultancy signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the new city project. As per the MoU, the consultancy will prepare a master plan and recommend the most suitable product mix to BDA for the project's development. The new city project is one of Odisha's most ambitious urban development initiatives, designed to reshape the capital's future with global collaboration, strategic planning and inclusive infrastructure. "It is a landmark step for Odisha to shape a world-class urban centre, reflecting inclusivity, sustainability and resilience for future generations," Padhee said. The new city is planned on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, including areas such as Malipada, Daspur and Gothapatna. It is envisioned as an inclusive, sustainable and resilient city with solar infrastructure and the capacity to house two lakh residents. With an estimated Rs 8,200 crore projected investment, the govt hopes to secure funding from multiple sources such as the MoHUA, private investors and external lenders like the Asian Development Bank. Pakistan extends airspace ban on Indian flights for another month
Pakistan on Wednesday extended its airspace ban on Indian aircraft until September 23. The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) issued a fresh NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) announcing the one-month extension, covering both civilian and military aircraft that are Indian-owned, operated, or leased."All aircraft operated by Indian airlines will not be allowed to use Pakistani airspace.
