Russia, China to Launch Joint Production of Mass Spectrometers
Nada Mustafa
By the end of the year Russia and China will start joint mass production of mass spectrometers on femtosecond lasers. This was announced by Aleksander Kuleshov, President of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, in an exclusive commentary at the TV BRICS studio in the Roscongress International Cooperation Area at St. Petersburg International Economic Forum ( SPIEF) 2025, according to TV BRICS.
A mass spectrometer is a device for analysing the composition of substances at the molecular level, which makes it possible to determine precisely which elements or compounds are included in a sample. Femtosecond laser is a source of ultra-short laser pulses, which provides high accuracy in measurements.
According to Aleksander Kuleshov, the Russian side is responsible for the spectrometer itself, while the Chinese side is responsible for the femtosecond laser. He emphasised that the project is being implemented not at the level of memorandums, but in the course of real technological cooperation with several Chinese universities.
"This will be truly mass and, most importantly, inexpensive spectrometry," Kuleshov said.
He noted that despite the popular belief that mass spectrometers are exclusively scientific equipment, in fact they are widely used, including for product quality control.
Aleksander Kuleshov also emphasised that joint initiatives in BRICS give Russia access to a wider market.

Death Toll from Israeli Offensive Rises to Nearly 56,000
Ahmed Emam The death toll from Israel's ongoing military campaign in Gaza has reached 55,998, with at least 131,559 people injured since the conflict erupted in October 2023, according to the latest figures released by the Gaza Ministry of Health on Monday. The ministry also reported that 17 people were killed and more than 136 wounded in the past 24 hours alone, following Israeli airstrikes that targeted aid distribution centers across the besieged enclave. The sharp increase in casualties comes amid intensifying hostilities and growing concern over the humanitarian collapse in Gaza, where medical facilities, shelters, and critical infrastructure have been severely damaged or destroyed. Aid agencies have warned that continued attacks on relief hubs are obstructing the delivery of life-saving assistance to a population already on the brink of famine. Also, the Israeli military claimed that its operations are focused on dismantling Hamas's infrastructure and securing the release of hostages taken during the group's October 7 assault on southern Israel. However, Palestinian authorities and international human rights groups have accused Israel of disproportionate use of force and targeting civilian areas. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

Egyptian Restaurants React: Iran-Israel War
From Abou Tarek's koshary missile to B Laban's sugar-fueled strikes and Ahmed Neda's charcoal warfare, Egypt's food scene has officially joined the fray - armed with carbs, AI, and unapologetic chaos. Jun 23, 2025 In these uncertain times, some people protest, others post solidarity infographics. But Egypt's food brands? They're launching rockets. Of carbs. Leading the charge was none other than koshary overlord Abou Tarek, who briefly posted an AI-generated image of a 'Koshary Missile' - yes, with lentils, pasta, and patriotic propulsion. Captioned 'Coming soon to markets,' the post detonated in the comment section, setting off an explosion of online outrage, press coverage from actual Israeli media, and eventually, a very sheepish delete. Meanwhile, B Laban - never one to miss a sugar-fuelled stunt - dropped a 'Fattaka' dessert (blueberry, cheesecake, and whatever chaos remains in the lab fridge) backed by Twitter screenshots from Iranian accounts. It's dessert diplomacy with a dairy twist. Then there's Ahmed Nada, meat master and grill enthusiast, who decided to go full blockbuster. His latest ad spliced sizzling kebab fire with missile launch visuals in what can only be described as Call of Duty: Lamb Ops. Unsurprisingly, Israeli bloggers clocked in with reactions ranging from confusion to cautious obsession.

NATO boss says Iran must not develop a nuclear weapon - Region
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stressed that Tehran should not be allowed to have a nuclear bomb, as Israel and Iran exchanged fresh strikes on Monday. "When it comes to NATO's stance on Iran's nuclear programme, allies have long agreed that Iran must not develop a nuclear weapon," said Rutte ahead of a NATO summit in The Hague. He dismissed suggestions that the war in the Middle East would deflect attention from the summit of the 32 NATO leaders starting on Tuesday. Rutte also claimed that Iran was "heavily involved" in Russia's war against Ukraine. Over the weekend, President Donald Trump said US warplanes had used "bunker buster" bombs that had "obliterated" Iran's nuclear capabilities. Other officials said it was too soon to assess the true impact on Iran's nuclear programme, which Israel and some Western states consider an existential threat. Iran has warned the US bombing would "pave the way for the extension of war in the region" and threatened "serious, unpredictable consequences." As the world awaited Iran's response, supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called the bombing campaign Israel launched on June 13 "a big mistake". Israeli attackcs on Iran have killed more than 400 people, Iran's health ministry said. Iran's retaliation on Israel have killed 24 people, according to official figures.
