Jared Allen calls kids his ‘greatest accomplishment' at Hall of Fame induction
During his time as a professional football player, Allen was a five-time Pro Bowler and a four-time All-Pro selection. He completed 136 sacks in his career and as a result of all of that, Allen was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year.
On Aug. 2, Allen and three other former NFL players, received their gold Hall of Fame jackets and made a speech.
At the end of his speech, Allen said if his football accolades are all he is remembered for, then he failed.
'I'm here to tell you two, you are my greatest accomplishments,' Allen told his daughters, Brinley and Lakelyn, who were sitting at a table looking up at him during his speech.
'When I get called home to heaven one day, if all they talk about is this gold jacket, my career, then I failed miserably as a father, a husband and a friend. You two are my legacy,' he continued, as his daughters got emotional.
'You are both so talented, and I cannot wait to see what you two decide to do to conquer this world,' he said in a direct message to his girls. 'So always put Christ first. Find your why, dream big dreams and always pursue greatness in whatever you do. Thank you all, and may God bless you all.'
Allen began his professional football career with the Chiefs in 2004 before he was traded to the Minnesota Vikings before the 2008 season, where he played the majority of his career until 2013. Allen would go on to play with the Bears and with the Panthers before retiring in 2016.
In a message to the Vikings during his speech, Allen said, 'As a Norseman by blood, because I am Norwegian, it was only fitting I became a Viking.'
'The entire Wilf family, I don't think I can every truly express the depths of my gratitude to your entire organization,' he continued. 'I'm a firm believer that God puts people in your life at the appropriate times, and what you did for the growth of my career, and more importantly, the people that you surrounded me with in that organization helped me grow as a man, that is why I will forever call the Vikings my home.'
In the end, Allen said he likes to believe that the Hall of Fame jackets are gold in color because gold is a 'reflective medal,' and this jacket in particular symbolizes all the people in his life that helped him get to where he is today.
'I might be the one wearing this jacket, but I hope every time you see this jacket you see yourself.'

Broncos salary cap update after Courtland Sutton and Zach Allen extensions
Going into training camp two weeks ago, the Denver Broncos had a little more than $12.5 million in salary cap space. Allen's cap charge will skyrocket to $28.625 million in 2026 while Sutton's will take a small jump up to $13.975 million. Broncos roster: DL Zach Allen (No. 99) ranks among NFL's best
Broncos Wire's 2025 offseason roster series concludes today with a look at seventh-year defensive lineman Zach Allen, No. 99. Before the : Allen (6-5, 285 pounds) was selected out of Boston College by the Arizona Cardinals in the third round (65th overall) of the 2019 NFL draft. Allen's rookie season was quiet, as he played four games, starting one amd making eight tackles (six solo, two assisted, one tackle for loss). In 2020, Allen played in 13 games, starting seven of them. Allen upped his tackle total to 35 (20 solo, 15 assisted, five tackles for loss), 2.0 sacks and three pass deflections. In 2021, Allen played in 15 games, earning 14 starts, while making 48 total tackles (30 solo, 18 assisted, five tackles for loss), four pass deflections, 4.0 sacks, recovering three fumbles for 27 yards and picking off his first pass. Allen started his first playoff game, making four total tackles (one solo, three assisted). In his final season in Arizona, Allen played and started 13 games, having his highest sack total of his career (5.5) and pass deflections (8), while making 47 total tackles (23 solo, 24 assisted). After his big year, it was surprising when Arizona did not re-sign him in 2023. tenure: In his years with Arizona, Allen first met a familiar face; current Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, who was in the same capacity with the Cardinals (2019-22). When Allen became a free agent, Joseph became the defensive coordinator under Sean Payton in Denver. Allen was signed to a three-year deal worth $45.75 million. In Allen's first season with Denver, he quickly found his niche in the Broncos' defense. For the first time in his career, Allen played and started all 17 games, making 60 total tackles (27 solo, 33 assisted, eight tackles for loss), 5.0 sacks, one pass deflection and one forced fumble. Allen's second year in Denver in 2024 was the best year of his career. Allen recorded career-highs in tackles (61 total, 32 solo, 29 assisted), tackles for loss (15) and sacks (8.5), while having one pass deflection and recording one safety. In Allen's second career playoff game, Allen recorded five tackles (four solo, one assisted, two tackles for loss) and 1.0 sacks. He was named a second-team All-Pro after that impressive season, making one one of the best in the league at his position. Chances to make the 53-man roster: Lock. Allen is one of the next Broncos in line hopeful for a contract extension beyond 2025. Allen is a vital part of the Denver defense, a disruptive force in the heart of the line on passing and rushing downs. The Broncos no doubt want to keep Allen. To do that, they'll likely have to pay a big price. Perhaps an extension will get done in the coming weeks or months. Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X! Vikings' Kevin O'Connell Gives Major Injury Update on WR Justin Jefferson
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. With Jordan Addison suspended for the first three games of the 2025 season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, the Minnesota Vikings desperately need star wideout Justin Jefferson to be ready to go for their Week 1 matchup against the Chicago Bears on "Monday Night Football" on Sept. 8. Beyond Jefferson and Addison, the Vikings depth chart at receiver leaves much to be desired with Rondale Moore and Jalen Nailor leading a hodgepodge group of rookies and journeymen, which isn't exactly an ideal scenario for second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy to walk into while making his first career start. Jefferson has missed the bulk of training camp so far while battling a mild left hamstring strain suffered back in late July. He didn't practice on Wednesday, but he has been spotted by multiple reporters working with Vikings trainers on a side field, indicating that he could be close to returning to practice. More NFL: Ja'Marr Chase Accidentally Told Everyone Why Josh Allen Is Better Than Joe Burrow While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, head coach Kevin O'Connell gave a slightly optimistic update on Jefferson's injury status. "He certainly looks healthy when he's trying to tackle me pre-practice here," O'Connell said, via Underdog NFL. "He's clearly building up to the point where he's going to be 100% and we're going to get him back out there." Head coach Kevin O'Connell of the Minnesota Vikings consoles Justin Jefferson #18 on the sidelines after a fumble during the second quarter of an NFL football game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field... Head coach Kevin O'Connell of the Minnesota Vikings consoles Justin Jefferson #18 on the sidelines after a fumble during the second quarter of an NFL football game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on September 14, 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. MoreUp to this point in his NFL career, Jefferson has been mostly durable. He missed seven games during the 2023 season with a Grade 2 thigh hamstring strain (the same injury he currently has), but he's played in every game in every other season aside from that one. It's unlikely Jefferson will see much action in any of Minnesota's three preseason games, but returning to practice where he can build a rapport with McCarthy is likely the Vikings' top priority. McCarthy missed his entire rookie season after tearing the meniscus in his right knee last preseason, so getting as many reps with Jefferson, the Vikings' No. 1 WR who caught 103 passes for 1,533 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, is imperative. More NFL: Roger Goodell's 'RedZone' Announcement is Good News for College Football Fans The Vikings thought highly enough of McCarthy to let Sam Darnold walk in free agency after his career year and hand the keys to the offense over to the 22-year-old signal caller. Given how last preseason went, no one would blame the Vikings for holding McCarthy back until the regular season, but O'Connell stated earlier this week the plan is for the Michigan alum to play in Minnesota's preseason opener against the Houston Texans on Saturday. He didn't mention anything about the other two exhibition games.
