Greencoat Renewables lists on the JSE's AltX, expanding its investor base

Greencoat Renewables Plc (GRP), a leading owner and operator of European renewable energy infrastructure assets, officially debuted its secondary listing on the JSE's AltX on Monday.
GRP remains listed on the Alternative Investment Market in London and the Euronext Growth Market in Dublin.
The listing presents a significant opportunity for the Irish-based company, which has a current market capitalisation of €850 million (R17.2 billion), to diversify its shareholder base, enhance liquidity and position itself to take advantage of growth opportunities over time, it said in a statement.
GRP offers South African investors access to a large and diversified Pan-European platform consisting of 40 renewable energy assets across five countries, producing 1.5GW of energy. This high-quality and modern portfolio is underpinned by long-term, European government-backed cashflows.
In 2024, GRP generated net cash of €141m of which €74m was paid out to investors as dividends and the remainder reinvested in the business. GRP currently trades at a 9% Euro dividend yield.
GRP's Bertrand Gautier, who leads the team as a co-portfolio manager, along with Paul O'Donnell, said, 'We're excited to be listing on South Africa's preeminent bourse, which presents us with access to a deep capital market with sophisticated investors who are familiar with and attracted to GRP's value proposition. The JSE also has an excellent track record of supporting real asset companies and is expected to provide a strong platform for future growth."
O'Donnell said, 'The European energy transition will require €1.5 trillion in investment to 2030. When considered in the context of a material increase in demand for green electrons by data centres, which are fuelled by Big Tech and AI, the sector represents a unique and compelling long-term opportunity for investors.'
He adds that the company's excellent track record of providing investors with a secure and predictable income, backed by GRP's scale and established Pan-European footprint, as well as the constant value-added asset management focus of the team, supports this view.
Diarmuid Kelly, the chief financial officer of GRP, said, 'We remain focused on delivering attractive risk-adjusted returns for shareholders through continued high cash generation and disciplined capital allocation. Our cashflows are proactively managed to provide a combination of security and opportunity which facilitates a progressive dividend that has grown 5.5% on a ZAR CAGR basis since IPO (initial public offering) in 2017. In addition, cash generated over and above that required to service dividends is reinvested into the business to grow the net asset value. Our return profile is thus well aligned with long-term, income-focused investors.'
The company is managed by Schroders Greencoat, an experienced and specialised investment manager in the listed renewable energy infrastructure sector with over €16bn in AUM across more than 400 assets globally.
Valeo Capital is the South African corporate advisor and Sponsor bringing GRP to market.

Nissan begins talks with union to cut jobs at European regional office
Nissan Motor has begun negotiations with the union representing staff at its European regional office about changes that will include job losses, according to a company document and internal emails. The struggling Japanese carmaker, which has embarked on a major restructuring, confirmed it has entered consultations with staff representatives at Nissan Automotive Europe, its regional office in Montigny-le-Bretonneux, France, which has about 560 staff. The office, which also oversees Nissan's operations for Africa, the Middle East, India and Oceania, is set to undergo major changes, according to a person with knowledge of the issue who declined to be identified. Management and the union agreed to discuss voluntary redundancies before any forced layoffs, the document seen by Reuters showed. Talks are expected to conclude by October 20, with full details to be shared with staff in November, the document and the emails said. 'We are working diligently and respectfully with all parties to ensure that this process is conducted with care, transparency and in full compliance with legal requirements,' Massimiliano Messina, Nissan's vice-chairperson for the region, said in a July 31 email. Messina also said in the email that no decisions had yet been made. After taking the helm in April, CEO Ivan Espinosa announced a sweeping restructuring that includes cutting about 15% of Nissan's workforce, slashing global production capacity by nearly 30% to 2.5-million vehicles and the number of its manufacturing sites to 10 from 17. The carmaker, which has seen weak sales in China and the US compound pain brought on from an expansionist strategy, hopes to save ¥500bn (R61bn) with the restructuring. In recent developments, Nissan said last week it would stop output at its Civac plant in Mexico by March next year. It also said it will end car production at its Oppama plant in Japan by March 2028 and at Nissan-Shatai's Shonan factory by March 2027. The carmaker employs nearly 19,000 people across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India and Oceania, with close to 60% based in Europe, according to a diversity report published in October 2024.

Jubilee Metals' Roan copper concentrator in Zambia achieves operational success
Jubilee Metals, diversified metals producer with operations in South Africa and Zambia, has full re-startedoperations at its Roan project in Zambia. Image: Supplied Jubilee Metals Group's Roan copper concentrator in Zambia is fully operational following an upgrade, exceeding July's targeted production by reaching 384 tons of copper units. The mining group, which aims to become a significant copper explorer, miner, and producer of concentrates and refined cathodes in Zambia, stated in an update on Wednesday that Roan's production in August was already above the targeted production rate of 350 tons. The Roan project, first announced by Jubilee in 2021 and upgraded in phases, is the cornerstone of the company's copper production ambitions alongside the Sable refinery. Jubilee is currently disposing of its South Africa-based chrome and platinum operations, with agreements in final form, and a shareholders' meeting is being scheduled soon. Jubilee's share price sank 5.4% to 70 cents on the JSE on Wednesday afternoon. 'I am pleased to report significant progress across our Zambia portfolio, which has all the assets we need to maintain momentum on our copper expansion strategy,' said Jubilee's CEO Leon Coetzee in a statement. He said that they were building a robust copper production profile by dedicating processing capacity at Roan to a combination of third-party sourced mined material and process tailings, while advancing the Munkoyo and Project G mining operations to feed an expanded Sable refinery. Advertisement Next Stay Close ✕ Ad loading In addition, the Large Waste project is forging ahead, and the group's copper exploration footprint is being expanded. The Munkoyo and Project G mines are being developed to be the anchor source of copper material for cathode production at Sable. Further large-scale exploration properties have been secured, Coetzee said. Munkoyo consists of a series of nine open-pits, and resource drilling is underway to establish the potential of combining these pits into one large open-pit operation. The Large Waste tailings dump is understood to contain over 240 million tons. A review of the total surface stock portfolio was done. A monetisation program is underway to sell the lowest-ranking non-core tailings assets, with about an $18 million deal value already transacted over the past six months. Munkoyo's open-pit operation's drilling program has started, with an initial eight holes completed in partnership with a mining and exploration company. Drilling results are being reviewed, and early indications suggest potential to combine pits 2 to 4 into a single large open pit to offer increased mining flexibility and throughput. Discussions are in progress with a partner to further expanded Munkoyo and develop Project G while undertaking an exploration program of the new exploration properties. Jubilee's copper production for the first half was impacted by power and infrastructure challenges, and Roan was placed under care and maintenance. Following a successful Roan restart, copper unit production reached 757 tons in the second half, with annual production reaching 2 211 tons versus the guidance for the 2026 financial year of 5 100 tons. Further capital-dependent projects either underway or targeted to start next year could potentially increase annual copper production by about 10,000 tons. Coetzee stated that the energy-related challenges faced earlier this year helped them emerge with a clearer, more focused strategy backed by secure power supply and higher-value material supply agreements. Sable is undergoing an expansion to offer an annual processing capacity of about 14 000 tons of copper units upon completion, which is anticipated in the first quarter of next year. Mining at Munkoyo was temporarily halted for July and August 2025 while the extended pit design was completed based on the drilling results, and ore delivery to Sable is set to recommence in September 2025. On the Large Waste project, Jubilee plans to roll out a series of 25,000 tons per month modular processing units on-site, based on the design at Roan. BUSINESS REPORT
