Separation sparks public interest
The controversy began after
Mohan and Aarti publicly announced their decision to part ways. Soon after, Ravi was spotted attending a public event with singer Kenisha, drawing media attention and public speculation. In the aftermath, singer Suchitra released a video in which she made serious allegations, including linking Aarti with a prominent actor. These statements, which quickly gained traction on social media, were perceived as deeply offensive and damaging to Aarti's dignity and personal reputation.
Defamation allegations and damage to reputation
In his complaint, Aarti's father claimed that Suchitra's remarks were not only defamatory but also an invasion of the privacy of his daughter and family. He stated that her public posts and videos have triggered unnecessary speculation in the Tamil film industry and tarnished the family's reputation, which had been built over decades of hard work. He emphasised that the dignity of his wife and daughter had been unfairly questioned, and that Suchitra's conduct amounted to character assassination.
Legal action demanded under IT Act and BNS
The complaint demands legal action against the singer under several sections of the Information Technology Act, 2000, including Sections 79, 294, 353 BNS, 66(a), and 67. The case has added a new layer of controversy to the ongoing divorce proceedings and has sparked wider conversations about accountability in public discourse, particularly when it involves the private lives of celebrities and their families.

Thug Life advance booking: Kamal Haasan's film to open with ₹12.46 cr, 2 lakh+ tickets sold despite Karnataka blockage

Thug Life advance booking: Kamal Haasan's film Thug Life is ready to debut on Thursday despite no show across Karnataka. The actor recently found himself at the centre of a controversy, which led to the film being blocked from release in the state. However, the film is set to see a decent opening day. However, missing out on the Karnataka circuit is undoubtedly going to cost Kamal Haasan who is also jointly backing the film. According to film industry tracker Sacnilk, Thug Life has collected a gross of ₹ 5.02 crore from ticket sales in all languages. The film will be out in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu languages. It will also be available in IMAX 2D format. Considering all formats, Kamal Haasan's film has so far sold 2,95,456 tickets for 10,678 shows across India, excluding Karnataka. Considering blocked seats, Thug Life is set to see a massive opening with ₹ 12.46 crore gross earnings. The film is set to clash with Sajid Nadiawala's Housefull 5 which has now generated way less money from advance booking. The movie is likely to premiere with ₹ 5.67 crore gross earnings. While Karnataka is out of the picture for Thug Life, states like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, followed by Gujarat, top the list with maximum revenue from the advance booking for the first day in all versions. Thug Life is a gangster action drama film, directed by Mani Ratnam. It is co-written by Kamal Haasan, who is also jointly producing the film under his banner Raaj Kamal Films International. Madras Talkies and Red Giant Movies are also backing the film. Besides Kamal Haasan, it also features Silambarasan, Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Rohit Saraf and Baburaj. The film marks the reunion of Haasan and Ratnam after they collaborated on their 1987 film, Nayakan. The film landed in controversy after Haasan said, "Kannada was born out of Tamil' during the film event. Predicting the fate of the film amid the row, film trade insider Ramesh Bala posted on X, formerly Twitter, 'The anticipation is huge for the biggest film of the year #ThugLife. The promotional material impressed everyone. We can expect, solid action and Phenomenal performances from leads #KamalHaasan, #SilambarasanTR, #Trisha, #JojuGeorge & others. With themes rumored to explore action, identity, and rebellion, #ThugLife is expected to be more than just a commercial entertainer. Excited for tomorrow.'

Singer, his family lose Rs 20L in investment fraud

Ahmedabad: A singer and his family, from the Lambha area of the city, became victims of an investment fraud and lost Rs 20 lakh. A complaint in this matter was filed with the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on Tuesday. According to the complaint, the singer met the accused, a resident of Gandhinagar, in May 2022 during an event at a hotel in Ahmedabad. The accused introduced himself as the operator of a firm dealing in stock market investments and promised good returns every 21 days over a year. Trusting the accused, the singer's father gave Rs 5 lakh to the accused for investment. Later, the singer also gave Rs 5 lakh in the form of a cheque, followed by another Rs 5 lakh in cash. The accused provided a notarised affidavit mentioning investment terms to build trust. For security, the accused gave a cheque to the singer's father, which bounced as the account was blocked. The accused allegedly returned small amounts initially but stopped further payments. When asked for the remaining amount, the accused refused to pay. Meanwhile, the singer's relative invested Rs 5 lakh in the same scheme. Despite several follow-ups, he did not get his money back. DCB police lodged an FIR of cheating and criminal breach of trust under relevant sections of the BNS and began an investigation.

Allahabad HC upholds adult woman's right to choose life partner

Prayagraj: The Allahabad high court has directed the Bulandshahr SSP to provide protection to a newlywed couple who faced resistance from the woman's family due to their marriage, emphasising that an adult woman has the right to choose her life partner. Hearing the couple's plea, the high court warned that the SSP will be held accountable for any harm caused to the couple by the woman's family. A case was filed at Khurja police station in Bulandshahr in May under Section 87 (kidnapping) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The complainant alleged that a 26-year-old man from an upper caste had kidnapped his 24-year-old daughter and coerced her into marrying him at an Arya Samaj temple. The couple had subsequently approached the high court, seeking to have the FIR quashed and requesting protection from interference in their married life. The woman had specifically expressed concerns about potential honor killing. Hearing their petition, Justice JJ Munir, in his order dated June 2, stayed the arrest of the man and ordered Bulandshahr SSP to ensure that no one interferes in the couple's marital life. The high court also said that an adult woman has the right to choose her partner, and if any harm is caused to the petitioners, the SSP will be personally held accountable.
