Pulau Sipadan Dive Turns Tragic As Chinese Tourist Drowns

On Monday (19th May 2025), a Chinese tourist watched her husband drown in front of her as he dived into the water off the coast of Pulau Sipadan, Sabah. Reports say that he jumped off the boat without the supervision of the diving instructors.
The pair were a part of a group of 8 divers who participated in a diving activity by the resort. Police statements reported that the incident involving the 37-year-old male tourist happened at 10:45 a.m. as he jumped into the water without the supervision of his diving instructor. The victim's body was found unconscious by one of the divers at an estimated depth of 25 metres.
A statement from District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Sabri Zainol adds that he was brought back to the boat where the group made attempts to resuscitate him. The tourist showed some response by taking a deep breath and proceeded to vomit, but he remained unconscious afterwards. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced dead upon his arrival at Tawau Hospital after he was transferred from Semporna Hospital.
What started as a fun trip ended in a tragic accident. We send our condolences to the victim's family.

KUALA LUMPUR: Activist and graphic artist Fahmi Reza claims he was prevented from leaving the country this morning after immigration officers at KLIA informed him that he had been blacklisted. "Today, on my birthday and Hari Raya Aidiladha, I found out I've been blacklisted and barred from leaving the country," he said in a Facebook post earlier today. In his post, he detailed plans for a short two-day trip to Singapore to attend a show featuring two of his favourite punk bands. Fahmi said he arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) around 7.30am to catch a 9.35am flight and proceeded to the international immigration clearance counter, where he was directed to the immigration office. He said the officer asked for his travel documents and destination, then requested printed copies of his boarding pass and flight ticket. Despite showing digital versions on his phone, Fahmi claimed he was instructed to print physical copies himself, even though the office was equipped with a printer. With just minutes left before boarding, an airport staff member assisted him by driving him to a nearby hotel to print the required documents. Upon returning to the immigration office, Fahmi said he was informed that he had not been granted clearance to leave the country. According to him, the officer said that Bukit Aman had not approved his departure but did not provide any further explanation. He was then escorted out of the departure area. Porn producers in Phnom Penh busted: 12, including a Malaysian, in custody

The raid saw 12 suspects taken into custody. The authorities explained that the group were producing and distributing – as well as live-streaming – pornographic content. Rath Sreang, commander of the Municipal Gendarmerie, explained that the operation took place on Wednesday (June 4) at a flat located along Street 242, in Prampi Makara district's Boeung Prolit commune. The 12 suspects included six Chinese nationals, five Cambodians and a Malaysian. Computers, condoms and a range of sex toys were seized during the raid. Sreang said the 12 suspects were sent to court on June 6. It was unclear how long they had been producing pornographic content for. He confirmed that he ordered the raid, in coordination with Seng Mengsrun, deputy prosecutor at Phnom Penh Municipal Court. The Kingdom's Law on Suppression of Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation explained that anyone who possesses, distributes, sells, rents, displays, screens or publicly shows pornographic images shall face a term of imprisonment of from 7 days to 1 month and a fine of 100,000 to 200,000 riel (US$25 to US$50). The production of pornographic images or materials carries a prison term of from 1 month to 1 year and a fine of 100,000 (US$25) to 2,000,000 riels (US$500). Sisters' Aidiladha shopping trip derailed by expired road tax

The siblings, aged 18 and 22, were travelling from Chempaka to the Wakaf Che Yeh bazaar in Kota Baru when they were stopped at a road block mounted by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) in a special festive operation. Upon checking, the motorcycle's road tax was found to have expired in 2023. According to the elder girl, they did not realise that the road tax had expired as they rarely used the motorcycle. 'I have been working in Kuala Lumpur for a while now and my sister, who owns the bike, also works outside Kelantan. We did not realise that the road tax had expired,' the report quoted her as saying. She said she got back to her village on Thursday morning and rode with her sister to town to buy new tudung for Aidiladha. > It will be a solemn Aidiladha for three families in Kedah who lost their young sons in motorcycle crashes near Alor Setar on Thursday, the daily also reported. Three TVET students, all aged 19, were riding their motorcycles with another friend to their respective hometowns in the state when the accident occurred at KM49.4 of the North-South Expressway.
