Indonesia Signs Swap Deals to Ensure Domestic Gas Supply

Yahoo21-05-2025

Indonesian natural gas producers have signed a multi-party gas swap agreement with Indonesian and Singaporean traders aimed at increasing gas supply security in western Indonesia.
As gas production in Sumatra in western Indonesia is falling, local companies and regulators looks to redirect domestic gas supply to meet local demand while selling overseas gas from other areas.
In a deal signed on Wednesday, Indonesian gas producer Medco Energi Internasional signed a multi-party swap agreement with companies including state energy firm PT Pertamina and Singaporean and Indonesian gas traders Oil Natuna Sea B.V., Star Energy (Kakap) Ltd., Sembcorp Gas Pte Ltd., Gas Supply Pte Ltd., Petrochina International Jabung Ltd., and PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN).
Under the agreement, specific gas volumes will be supplied to Singapore from the West Natuna Supply Group, replacing volumes currently delivered from Corridor Block and Jabung PSC, the so-called South Sumatra Sellers. These redirected volumes will then be allocated to meet domestic gas demand, with PGN serving as the domestic buyer.
'This collaboration demonstrates a strong example of productive synergy between upstream operators, the regulator, partners and buyers in ensuring gas supply across both domestic and international markets,' MedcoEnergi director and chief operating officer, Ronald Gunawan, said in a statement.
Indonesian gas demand is rising, while production at some legacy gas fields is dropping.
The country has started replacing diesel as a fuel in dozens of power plants with LNG, which is set to boost demand for natural gas in one of the world's top LNG exporters.
Last month, Indonesia awarded five strategic oil and gas blocks to international and domestic players in a bid to reverse its decade-long production decline and bolster energy security.
The awards are part of Indonesia's broader upstream revival strategy, with nearly 60 additional blocks expected to be offered over the coming years.
'The government hopes these auction winners will be able to contribute to Indonesia's energy security ahead,' said Tri Winarno, a senior official at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

Indonesia vows to provide US tariff preferences before June talks

JAKARTA (Reuters) -Indonesia has committed to provide a list of preferred tariffs on U.S. goods before starting a second round of talks with Washington scheduled this month, its senior economy minister said on Wednesday after meeting the U.S. trade envoy. The U.S. was Indonesia's third-biggest export destination as of last year, receiving shipments worth $26.3 billion, according to Indonesian government data. The Southeast Asian country booked a $16.8 billion trade surplus with the U.S. in 2024. Economy Minister Airlangga Hartarto said Indonesia is ready to accelerate negotiations with the U.S. before the July 3 deadline for reciprocal tariffs set by President Donald Trump in his drive to end U.S. trade deficits with countries worldwide. The Trump administration has imposed a 32% tariff on Indonesian goods but that has been paused until July along with those targeting other countries. "We are ready to continue open dialogue and overcome negotiation challenges in tariffs and non-tariff barriers, digital trade... and the issues of economic and national security," Airlangga said in a statement. Reuters was seeking U.S. comment. Airlangga, who met U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on the sidelines of an OECD meeting in Paris, said Indonesia hopes that a "mature and measured" approach can open space for it to build a strong and long-term partnership with the U.S. As part of the negotiation, the government has said it wants to increase U.S. energy imports by about $10 billion, including purchases of U.S. fuel, crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas. Indonesia received shipments of U.S. goods worth $26.3 billion in 2024, according to government data. The main Indonesian exports to the U.S. include electronics, apparel and clothing, and footwear.

GE HealthCare and Kalbe open CT scanner production facility

GE HealthCare and PT Kalbe Farma Tbk (Kalbe) have launched the first computed tomography (CT) scanner production facility in Indonesia, a significant step towards localising the production of medical devices and improving diagnostic services across the country. This milestone was achieved through a strategic partnership between Kalbe's subsidiary Forsta and GE HealthCare. The facility, situated at PT Forsta Kalmedic Global in Bogor, is set to address the healthcare challenges faced by Indonesia's population of more than 280 million. By producing CT scanners domestically, Kalbe and GE HealthCare intend to minimise the country's reliance on imports, shorten delivery times, and make crucial diagnostic tools more accessible to hospitals and clinics nationwide. Kalbe president director Irawati Setiady said: 'The strategic partnership between Kalbe and GE HealthCare to supply CT scan machines locally exemplifies Kalbe's commitment to government efforts focused on supporting national health resilience and local health industry self-sufficiency. 'We hope that by producing the CT scan machines domestically will also enhance healthcare services and improving the quality of life for the Indonesian population.' CT scanners are said to be key diagnostic tools, known for their precision in detecting several diseases. The facility is expected to create employment opportunities and support the growth of the country's health technology workforce while facilitating knowledge transfer in medical manufacturing. GE HealthCare International president and CEO Elie Chaillot said: 'This facility will help us respond faster to local needs while maintaining the highest international standards of quality and safety. 'This production facility improves access to critical advanced diagnostic technology, creates high-value jobs and supports the development of Indonesia's health technology workforce.' This May, GE HealthCare received 501(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration for its CleaRecon DL technology, as well as a European CE Mark. "GE HealthCare and Kalbe open CT scanner production facility" was originally created and published by Medical Device Network, a GlobalData owned brand. Singapore's ‘Super Rich In Korea' star David Yong hit with fifth charge over S$61m promissory note scheme

SINGAPORE, June 3 — Businessman David Yong, known for his appearance in Netflix's Super Rich In Korea, was handed a fifth charge involving more than 1,000 promissory notes linked to his company, Evergreen GRP Holdings (EGR). The 38-year-old Singaporean, whose full name is Yong Khung Lin, is the CEO of Evergreen Group Holdings and had previously faced four charges related to account falsification, according to a report published in The Straits Times today. His latest charge accuses him of consenting to the issuance of promissory notes between July 2023 and July 2024 that violated the Securities and Futures Act (SFA). According to the police, over S$61 million (RM201 million) was raised through more than 1,000 notes promising a 10 per cent annual interest, without lodging a required prospectus with the Monetary Authority of Singapore. A police spokesperson warned the public to be cautious of securities offers made without a registered prospectus, which must include sufficient information for investors to make informed decisions. Yong was first arrested on August 1, 2024, three months after appearing on the Netflix show. His initial charge, brought two days later, involved allegedly abetting Jolene Low Mong Han to falsify a tax invoice dated September 1, 2021, for a purported bulk sale of household items. Yong was subsequently charged in connection with two more falsified invoices dated December 16, 2021, related to the sale of furniture to separate entities under Evergreen Assets Management. On August 15, 2024, he faced a fourth charge, also for allegedly falsifying documents belonging to Evergreen GH. Yong's pre-trial conference is scheduled for June 5.
