DUBAI: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, affirmed that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, continues its remarkable progress across all sectors, with the nation's booming non-oil foreign trade at the heart of this growth, achieving consistent record-breaking growth for several years.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashi Al Maktoum said: 'The UAE's non-oil foreign trade saw growth of 18.6% year-on-year in the first quarter of this year, reaching AED 835 billion (global average is 2-3%). The nation's non-oil exports experienced exceptional growth, surging by 41% annually.'
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed stated: 'Our goal to grow non-oil foreign trade to AED 4 trillion by 2031 will be achieved within the next two years; four years ahead of schedule. In 2024, GDP grew by 4%, reaching AED 1.77 trillion, with the non-oil sector contributing 75.5% to the national economy.'
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed emphasized: 'Under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's economic growth is achieving unprecedented success. Indicators of social, economic, and strategic stability and prosperity are at their highest historical levels. We are confident in an even brighter future, driven by the focused efforts of thousands of dedicated teams working to realize the UAE's global ambitions.'
The UAE's non-oil foreign trade continued an upward trajectory in Q1 2025 (1 January to 31 March 2025), reaching AED 835 billion, an 18.6% increase compared to Q1 2024.
UAE non-oil exports continued to achieve historical growth rates, recording AED 177.3 billion in Q1 2025, a 40.7% year-on-year increase (compared to Q1 2024) and a 15.7% quarter-on-quarter increase (compared to Q4 2024).
This robust growth propelled non-oil exports to over 21% of the UAE's total non-oil foreign trade for the first time in the nation's history, outpacing the growth of both imports and re-exports.
Re-exports saw a 6% annual increase, reaching AED 189.1 billion. Imports grew by 17.2% year-on-year, reaching AED 468.6 billion, but experienced a slight 1.7% decline compared to the previous quarter (Q4 of 2024).
Trade with the UAE's top 10 trading partners continued to expand, growing by 20.2% in Q1 2025, compared to 16.9% growth with other countries. Trade grew with India by 31%, with Saudi Arabia by more than double at 127%, with Turkiye by 8.3% - surpassing previous records - and with China by 9.6%.

The commercial bids from AECOM Middle East and Parsons Global Services were opened on 12 June. AECOM submitted a bid of 601,044.180 Bahraini dinars ($1.6 million), while Parsons offered 548,757 dinars ($1.5 million). The consultancy scope involves revising to align with area updates, ensuring at least 5 lanes each way where possible, following phasing plans within budget, and meeting the minimum 2-lane requirement at junctions and service roads The scope also includes updating utility corridors, revising storm water design for current rainfall intensity and catchment area, and preparing contract drawings and tender documents for contractor appointment The highway upgrade is being supported by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), which signed a 10 million Kuwaiti dinar ($32.4 million) loan agreement with the Bahraini government in March 2025, according to Kuwait's state news agency KUNA. GCC tourist visa approved, to be rolled out 'soon', says top official

The GCC single tourist visa has been approved and will be rolled out soon, said Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, UAE's Minister of Economy. 'The single (GCC) tourist visa has been approved and waiting now to be implemented, hopefully, soon. Now, it is with the Ministry of Interior and the relevant stakeholders and they should look into it,' Al Marri told Khaleej Times in an interview on the sidelines of the UAE Hospitality Summer Camp press conference on Monday. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have been discussing rolling out a unified tourist visa or GCC Grand Tours Visa for the region, similar to the Schengen tourist visa, over the past few years. This visa will allow foreign tourists to visit all six member states – the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait – on a single visa. Industry executives believe that the unified visa will be a game-changer for the regional tourism industry and overall economies, creating jobs along with a big boost to GDP. They believe that the much-awaited unified GCC tourist visa will boost 'bleisure' (business-leisure) travel in the region, as visitors will increasingly mix the two to extend their trips to explore the neighbouring countries. According to data released by the Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf, the region welcomed 68.1 million visitors in 2023 and generated a record $110.4 billion in tourism revenue, a remarkable 42.8 per cent increase in tourist arrivals compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. The travel and tourism sector's contribution to the UAE economy continues to grow, taking the total employment numbers to 833,000 last year, according to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). It is estimated that the number of jobs in the UAE's travel and tourism sector will touch one million by 2030, surpassing WTTC's estimates of 928,000 by 2034, with one in 9 residents working in the sector. Dubai, a regional tourism hub, welcomed 7.15 million tourists in the first four months of 2025, representing a 7 per cent growth compared to the same period in 2024, according to the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism.

Khareef season boosts Oman's business, draws new investments

Salalah- As Oman prepares for the annual khareef season in Dhofar, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) has confirmed full readiness for what is among the sultanate's most important economic and tourism periods. With large numbers of local and international visitors expected, the ministry has rolled out a detailed plan to strengthen commercial oversight, boost investor confidence and safeguard consumer interests. Mohammed bin Khalifa al Badrani, Director-General of the Directorate General of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in Dhofar, told Muscat Daily that inspections have been stepped up across markets, hotels, restaurants and other service providers to ensure they meet legal and professional standards. Teams are monitoring operations to ensure compliance with consumer protection and health regulations. Checks were launched ahead of the season to verify that businesses are ready and meeting requirements. The ministry, working with sector partners, has also held awareness workshops for business owners to improve service quality and raise awareness about consumer rights. Badrani said Dhofar continues to see robust commercial growth. In the first quarter of 2025 alone, 1,217 new investors were recorded, with 88 commercial registrations issued. The construction sector led activity with 2,100 licences issued, compared to 1,274 during the same period in 2024. To ensure smooth operations, the ministry is coordinating with Dhofar Municipality, Royal Oman Police, the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Consumer Protection Authority. Joint teams are monitoring fuel stations, verifying the supply and pricing of goods and ensuring businesses follow environmental and health rules. Public awareness campaigns have been launched to encourage responsible consumer behaviour and discourage bad practices. A 24-hour hotline is in place to handle consumer queries and complaints. Badrani stressed that the khareef plan supports wider economic goals for Dhofar. 'The khareef season is a strategic platform to showcase Dhofar's economic potential,' he said. © Apex Press and Publishing Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. (
