CoreWeave shares soar past IPO price on third trading day
At close, the company added more than $7 billion to its market value.
On Friday, the Nvidia-backed stock debuted at $39, giving the AI infrastructure firm a valuation of $23 billion on a fully diluted basis. CoreWeave had already taken a hit on Thursday when it downsized its IPO.
Nvidia contributed a $250-million order as part of CoreWeave's IPO, which raised $1.5 billion, Reuters reported last week.
Livingston, New Jersey-based CoreWeave provides access to data centers and high-powered Nvidia chips, which have become the most sought-after resource in the race to develop AI applications.
Founded as an Ethereum-focused crypto miner in 2017, CoreWeave pivoted to AI a few years later. It shuttered its mining business after "The Merge," Ethereum's 2022 upgrade, slashed rewards for miners.
In its IPO filing earlier in March, CoreWeave reported revenue of $1.92 billion in 2024, compared with $228.9 million a year earlier. Its net loss widened to $863.4 million during the same period from $593.7 million in 2023.
Roughly two-thirds of CoreWeave's revenue came from Microsoft, which is the company's biggest customer.

Microsoft server hack hit about 100 organisations, researchers say
21 July 2025 22:36 WASHINGTON/LONDON (REUTERS)A sweeping cyber espionage operation targeting Microsoft server software compromised about 100 different organisations as of the weekend, two of the organisations that helped uncover the campaign said on on Saturday issued an alert about "active attacks" on self-hosted SharePoint servers, which are widely used by organisations to share documents and collaborate within organisations. SharePoint instances run off of Microsoft servers were a "zero-day" because it leverages a previously undisclosed digital weakness, the hacks allow spies to penetrate vulnerable servers and potentially drop a backdoor to secure continuous access to victim Bernard, the chief hacker at Eye Security, a Netherlands-based cybersecurity firm, which discovered the hacking campaign targeting one of its clients on Friday, said that an internet scan carried out with the Shadowserver Foundation had uncovered nearly 100 victims altogether - and that was before the technique behind the hack was widely known."It's unambiguous," Bernard said. "Who knows what other adversaries have done since to place other backdoors."He declined to identify the affected organisations, saying that the relevant national authorities had been Shadowserver Foundation confirmed the 100 figure and said that most of those affected were in the United States and Germany, and that the victims included government researcher said that, so far, the spying appeared to be the work of a single hacker or set of said it had "provided security updates and encourages customers to install them," a company spokesperson said in an emailed was not clear who was behind the ongoing pool of potential targets remains vast. According to data from Shodan, a search engine that helps to identify internet-linked equipment, over 8,000 servers online could theoretically have already been compromised by hackers. Those servers include major industrial firms, banks, auditors, healthcare companies, and several US state-level and international government entities.

Amazon announces job cuts across its AWS Unit
Amazon is said to have cut hundreds of jobs in its Amazon Web Services (AWS) unit, as the company continues to invest billions in its data centre infrastructure as part of an AI push. Reuters reported Amazon confirmed the job cuts, but it did not provide an exact number. The news agency reported in June Amazon CEO Andy Jassy warned the use of generative AI would lead to a reduction in its workforce. 'We've made the difficult business decision to eliminate some roles across particular teams in AWS', a representative for Amazon told Reuters. 'These decisions are necessary as we continue to invest, hire, and optimise resources to deliver innovation for our customers'. Several impacted employees told Reuters yesterday (17 July) they had lost their jobs and their computers were deactivated. Amazon spent $24.3 billion on capex in Q1, down from $26.3 billion a year ago. For the full year of fiscal 2025, Amazon expects to outlay $105 billion in capex which will primarily go towards AI capabilities and AWS expansion. Source: Mobile World Live Image Credit: Amazon

Nvidia faces push-back on shipment to China
The chair of a House of Representatives panel on China voiced his opposition to Nvidia resuming sales of its H20 chip to Beijing despite recent assurances the company recieved from US authorities. Republican representative John Moolenaar, the chair of the House of Representatives' select committee on the Chinese communist party (CDP), stated in his letter to Lutnick on 18 July he still supports the original ban. Nvidia reconfigured its high-end offerings for China following US export controls on AI chips introduced in October 2023 during President Joe Biden's administration. The H20 GPU was the top performing chip prior to export restrictions. Last week the chipmaker received assurances from US authorities it can resume selling the chip, which could be a financial windfall for Nvidia. 'The Commerce Department made the right call in banning the H20. Now it must hold the line', Moolenaar wrote. 'We can't let the CCP use American chips to train AI models that will power its military, censor its people, and undercut American innovation.' Moolenaar stated in his letter he seeks a briefing with the Department of Commerce 'as soon as possible,' but no later than 8 August. Source: Mobile World Live Image Credit: Nvidia
