Coronation Street favourite's unexpected romance after devastating betrayal

Daily Mirror4 days ago
Coronation Street's Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) has been unlucky in love during her time in Weatherfield but could be about to embark on a surprise new romance
A Coronation Street favourite has recently had their heart broken thanks to her scheming family, but romance could be about to be on the cards all over again.

Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) was recently conned out of £60,000 by her stepdaughter Daisy Midgely ( Charlotte Jordan) and had discovered that the whole plot linked back to Daisy's mother Christina Boyd ( Amy Robbins) and her accomplice Dom Norwood (Dominic Rickhards).

But prior to the dramatic revelations, Jenny was under the impression that she and Leo were the real deal, having met on a dating app in the weeks before all the truths unravelled during a quiz night at the Rovers Return.

Since Daisy managed to get her hands on the money and flee to Bali, Jenny has been left heartbroken and on her own. She has had to give up her job as Rovers landlady and now works at The Kabin. But spoilers have revealed that her next romance will come from within the pub itself.
Spoilers have revealed that in scenes yet to air, barmaid Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger) will persuade her brother George (Tony Maudsley) to download a dating app as he attempts to move on from Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) following her move to Thailand.
But Jenny then comes into he pub and she tells the undertaker that there is a burst pipe at the newsagents, so he rushes to fix it. As a thank you, Jenny cooks dinner for George but later has to hide her disappointment as Glenda tells her that George has already had some interest on the dating app. Some viewers may think that Jenny is already unlucky-in-love given her Weatherfield dating history.

The character was first introduced in the 1980s under the name of Jenny Bradley when she became a foster daughter for Rita Tanner (Barbara Knox) and was heavily involved in the storyline that saw her father Alan Bradley (Mark Eden) abuse the backstreet newsagent, ultimately ending in his demise when he was ran over by a Blackpool tram.
Following this, she had an ill-fated affair with married man Robert Weston (Philip Bretherton), and she left the street after they split in 1991.

After an absence of more than 20 years, Jenny made a comeback to Weatherfield in 2015 where she struck up a relationship with Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell), and she became obsessed with the idea of becoming a mother to Kevin's young son Jack.
It was later revealed that during her time away from the Street, Jenny had had a child called Tom with her now-ex husband but he had drowned in a paddling pool as a toddler.
At the time, Kevin's daughter Sophie's ( Brooke Vincent) girlfriend Maddie Heath ( Amy James-Kelly) and was the one who had discovered the truth, but she died in an explosion before she could tell anyone. Jenny later decided to kidnap Jack and try to replace her own son with him, but was eventually sectioned.

When she made another comeback return to the Street, Jenny caught the attention of businessman Johnny Connor (Richard Hawley) and the pair married in 2017 before going on to run the Rovers together.
Their union survived Johnny's brief affair with Liz McDonald (Beverley Callard) and the prison sentence that Johnny received over a historic robbery, but ultimately came to an end in 2021 when the Platt's sinkhole caused mass destruction on the Street.
Having climbed in to save his wife, Jonny quickly began to suffer from hypothermia and then drowned. Jenny also had a relationship wit Leo Thompkins (Joe Frost) and they were due to elope, but he was killed by Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce), whom she had also had a brief dalliance with.

In real life, Sally Ann, who has also starred in Emmerdale, Doctors, and Waterloo Road over the years but has also enjoyed an illustrious career in theatre, married senior barrister Nicholas Rhodes in 1999 in a secret ceremony after the birth of her son James and they have been together ever since.
"I never wanted to get married, ever," she told former Loose Women anchor Kate Thornton on White Wine Question Time. Sally Ann surprised her family and friends with news of the couple's secret wedding on the same day as her birthday and her son's christening.
"I wanted to be with somebody and for me, the decision to have a child was a much bigger commitment. So we decided that we would start a family and we did. Then as soon as James was born, I kind of went: 'Oh I want the same name as everybody else'.
"So all right, 'I'll marry you now but I don't want a fuss and you're rubbish at remembering dates. So we'll get married on my birthday at James's christening'. So that's what we did. Every year on my birthday I forget it's also my wedding anniversary!

Legendary Coronation Street star confirms they're leaving soap after a decade on screens - leaving soap fans 'heartbroken'

A beloved Coronation Street star has announced her departure from the ITV soap after a decade in Weatherfield, leaving heartbroken fans reeling. The actor confirmed the news on Instagram in a heartfelt post that sent shockwaves through the fanbase, with many branding the exit 'the worst news.' Sally Ann Matthews revealed she is saying goodbye to Jenny Connor, the fiery landlady of the Rovers Return. Sally, 54, first joined the cobbles back in 1986 before returning in 2015 for what was supposed to be a five-month stint, but turned into ten years. Taking to Instagram on Friday, she wrote: 'I was supposed to stay for five months but ended up doing an extra ten years because I loved it so much! 'It's time, though, to play those parts I always hoped I would when I'd "grown up." Thanks Trafford Wharf Rd for the memories and endless laughter.' Fans immediately flooded the comments, with one devastated viewer writing: 'Are you as heartbroken as me?' Another said: 'Oh my god no! Jenny Connor what am I to do without you on the cobbles?' A third chimed in with: 'You know how much we absolutely adore you, absolutely gutted to see you go, Thank you for all the memories, you have my support forever and ever.' The emotional farewell comes just as a new storyline for Jenny was teased this week, hinting at a potential romance for the iconic character - though it now appears the fling will be short-lived. Earlier this year, Jenny's stepdaughter Daisy Midgeley fled the Street with Jenny's money, fuelling rumours that Sally Ann's exit might be on the cards. Confirming fans' fears, Sally posted a throwback from her return storyline in 2015, which saw Jenny tangled in drama with Kevin Webster and his son Jack. Another fan summed up the mood with: 'Omg Sal! Thank you for all the memories, you're the BEST at Jenny, you will be so missed.' It follows the Corrie star's claims that ITV 'has no money', and she revealed the one part of the soap she 'hates' filming. In previous years the show has filmed in various locations, although it's currently based in MediaCity in Salford, Manchester. It was previously housed in the northern city's Granada Studios home and loyal fans of the show can even take a tour of the set on Salford Quays. And while much of the filming is based in the studio, there have been occasions where the cast and crew have ventured out, including when Eileen Grimshaw threw Pat Phelan off a cliff and when Rita's husband Alan Bradley was killed by a tram in Blackpool. But while some actors might enjoy taking a trip away from set, Sally Ann is not a fan and told fans: 'We don't do on location… right… okay so the whole 'Corrie doesn't do location any more. 'Thankfully because I fricking hate being on location - location is s**t - I hate it.' She then revealed that the real reason the broadcaster doesn't encourage location filming anymore is because they don't have the budget for it. Sally Ann claimed: 'So I'm glad ITV have got no money - am I allowed to say that? Well I have said it.' And the news of her departure follows fan fears she had been sacked after posting a video in June last year where she admitted she had been given 'a million years off'. Sally, who made her first appearance on the show in 1986, took to Instagram to tell fans they should get used to not seeing her around.
