580 CAPF companies deployed in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Amarnath Yatra
Ahead of the Amarnath Yatra 2025, the Centre has called for the deployment of 580 companies of the Central Armed Police Force. This will include about 42,000 on-ground CAPF personnel for the annual pilgrimage.
Speaking to news agency PTI, official sources stated that 424 companies are being sent to the union territory to ensure a safe yatra route. The companies relocated to the UT during Operation Sindoor will also be relocated.
Sources further stated that the Union Home Ministry has directed CAPF forces to "immediately" move and take position in the union territory.
"The Union home ministry has decided to deploy about 580 CAPF companies for the Amarnath Yatra this time. This includes about 150-160 units already present in the UT," a senior officer told PTI.
The companies have been drawn from "five CAPFs of CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and SSB. Each of these companies have an operational strength of about 70-75 personnel," he added further.
The high-level security for the yatra comes after the terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 people.
As per the report, Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to review the security arrangements for the pilgrimage during his visit to Jammu.
The Amarnath Yatra will begin on July 3 and is set to continue till August 9, 2025.
The 38-day yatra leads to the 3,880-metre-high holy cave housing a naturally formed ice-shivling in the union territory.
Pilgrims can choose between the traditional 48-km route from Pahalgam in the Anantnag district or a shorter but steeper 14-km Baltal route in the Ganderbal district.

To battle floods, Bengal govt to start Teesta dredging soon
1 2 3 Jalpaiguri: With the bed of the Teesta rising around two metres following the 2023 Glacier Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) in Sikkim, Bengal govt has decided to dredge and desilt the river. The GLOF at North Sikkim's South Lhonak Lake in Oct 2023 had significantly impacted the Teesta riverbed with massive silt deposit. Experts fear that if the river is not desilted immediately, a heavy downpour in the upper catchment areas might spell doom for the areas the Teesta flows through. The rising river has already washed away two villages — Laltong and Chamakdangi — in Jalpaiguri's Rajganj block. At least 200 families from the two villages have been relocated to Kholachand Fapri. Bengal govt has decided to engage West Bengal Mineral Development and Trading Corporation Ltd (WBMDTCL) and the irrigation department to desilt some 30 spots on the Teesta from Sevoke railway bridge to Maynaguri's Bakali, across 50 km. "It would be a no-cost-effect dredging and the state will gain revenue by selling the sand and riverbed material," said irrigation minister Manas Bhunia in Jalpaiguri on Thursday after a meeting with departments concerned. A survey by the irrigation department estimates that it would cost about Rs 567 crore to desilt the Teesta if private agencies are involved. "Centre has not given a single penny since 2016 for desilting or bund repairing. This year, Centre has allocated only Rs 412 crore for the entire country's flood management. We, therefore, have decided to desilt Teesta on our own," Bhunia said. The minister also advocated for an India-Bhutan river commission. "There are 76 rivers originating from Bhutan which spell catastrophe for the Dooars every monsoon. They bring along dolomite, raising riverbeds by 4-5 feet. A joint river commission is the need of the hour but Centre is paying no heed to our appeals," he said. Chhattisgarh CM meets Union Home Minister Amit Shah, shares achievements of anti-Naxal operations
New Delhi [India], June 6 (ANI): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai met Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah in New Delhi on Friday. According to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), during the meeting, the Chief Minister provided a detailed briefing on the state's recent successes in anti-Maoist operations and the ongoing development initiatives in the Bastar region. CM Sai informed the Home Minister that the anti-Naxal campaign has reached a decisive phase with the state's renewed strategy and the continued support of the Centre. Intensive operations conducted over the past one and a half years have yielded significant results, including the surrender of 1,428 Maoists, a remarkable increase compared to the previous five years. He further stated that 205 encounters occurred during this period, eliminating 427 Maoists, including top leaders such as Baswaraju, the Maoist general secretary, and Central Committee member Sudhakar. The state has also established 64 new forward security camps, substantially strengthening the security grid in the affected regions. The Chief Minister noted that the areas surrounding these security camps are now rapidly gaining access to basic services like electricity, drinking water, healthcare, and education. Under the 'Niyad Nellanar Yojana', 146 villages have been identified where 18 types of integrated community services and 25 government schemes are being actively implemented, leading to a noticeable increase in local trust in the government machinery.
