Amarnath Yatra Reduced To 38 Days Amid Tightened Security Measures. Check Details

The duration of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, the holy cave shrine of Lord Shiva in Jammu and Kashmir, has been reduced to 38 days for the first time, compared to 52 days last year. The annual pilgrimage would commence from July 3 and would culminate on August 9 with added security. A total of 581 companies from various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) alongside personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police would be deployed during the Amarnath Yatra 2025. This extensive security has been deployed to ensure the safe passage of devotees during the sacred journey. Security Measures For the first time, jammers would be installed to protect the convoys from potential threats. During the passage of the convoy, all roads leading to the Yatra routes and National Highways will be temporarily blocked to ensure maximum security. Satellite phones will be provided to security personnel. Pilgrims and pony riders will be monitored using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). Dedicated PCR vans from the police and CRPF will accompany the yatra. A security audit and digital mapping of all routes have been carried out. The Director General of CRPF personally visited Pahalgam to review the arrangements. In addition to these measures, a comprehensive deployment will include Road Opening Parties (ROPs) to secure and clear the routes, Quick Action Teams (QATs) for immediate response to threats, Bomb Disposal Squads (BDS) will detect and neutralise explosives, and K9 units (specially trained sniffer dogs) and drones will be used for aerial surveillance. These arrangements will be in place on both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes to the Amarnath Cave shrine. On May 30, Union Home Minister Amit Shah instructed all security agencies to maintain high alertness and vigilance to ensure a completely peaceful Amarnath Yatra. In light of recent concerns, particularly the Pahalgam attack, security arrangements have been tightened. So far, over 3.5 lakh people have registered for this year's Amarnath Yatra. 'The pilgrimage, scheduled to take place from July 3 to August 9, will now be conducted over a reduced duration of 38 days for the first time,' ANI reported. For the first time, jammers will be installed to protect the Shri Amarnath Yatra convoy during its movement, which will be escorted by Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). During the passage of the convoy, all roads leading to the Yatra routes and National Highways will be temporarily blocked to ensure maximum security. CRPF DG reviews security for Amarnath Yatra
Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Gyanendra Pratap Singh chaired a meeting in Jammu to review the security readiness of the force ahead of the Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir. "DG CRPF G P Singh chaired a crucial meeting at Jammu Sector Headquarters with senior officers of CRPF to evaluate security readiness for Amarnath Yatra 2025," the CRPF said on X. The arrangements have been scrutinised in detail to ensure the seamless movement of devotees, it added. On Wednesday (May 28), the DG visited the Kashmir valley and conducted a strategic review of preparedness for the yatra to ensure its smooth conduct. He also visited key pilgrimage locations, including the base and transit camps, assessing on-ground arrangements and reaffirming the commitment to a secure, smooth, and spiritually enriching yatra for all devotees. The journey to the Amarnath cave shrine can be undertaken through two routes — the traditional 48-km route via Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, and the 14-km shorter but steeper Baltal route in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district. The Centre has ordered the deployment of 580 companies, comprising about 42,000 on-ground personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), for the annual Amarnath Yatra.

581 companies of CAPF for Amarnath Yatra security approved
Srinagar: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved the deployment of 581 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to Jammu and Kashmir for providing massive security to the Amarnath Yatra 2025 beginning on July 3. The MHA has approved the deployment to provide security to the pilgrims, official sources said on Thursday. The decision comes ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's two-day visit to the union territory. The ministry has authorised the J&K administration and police to utilise 156 CAPF companies already stationed in the region. 'These include 91 CRPF, 30 SSB, 15 CISF, 13 BSF, and 7 ITBP units, each comprising around 75 to 80 personnel. 'MHA will dispatch an additional 425 companies by June 10, which will include 130 BSF, 128 CRPF (including five women's units), 67 SSB, 55 ITBP, and 45 CISF companies. The forces will be on duty till the conclusion of the yatra on August 9, after which they will be de-inducted. 'A communication regarding the same has been sent to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of J&K on May 23. The MHA had responded to a formal request from the J&K government dated May 20, seeking additional forces to ensure a safe and peaceful pilgrimage season,' sources said. This year's Amarnath Yatra begins on July 3 and will end on August 9, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan and Shravan Purnima festivals. The Amarnath cave shrine is situated 3888 metres above sea level in the Kashmir Himalayas. The cave shrine houses an ice stalagmite structure that wanes and waxes with the phases of the moon. Devotees believe that the ice stalagmite structure symbolises the mythical powers of Lord Shiva. They approach the cave shrine either from the traditional longer Pahalgam route in Anantnag district or the shorter Baltal route in Ganderbal district.

580 CAPF companies deployed in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Amarnath Yatra
Ahead of the Amarnath Yatra 2025, the Centre has called for the deployment of 580 companies of the Central Armed Police Force. This will include about 42,000 on-ground CAPF personnel for the annual pilgrimage. Speaking to news agency PTI, official sources stated that 424 companies are being sent to the union territory to ensure a safe yatra route. The companies relocated to the UT during Operation Sindoor will also be relocated. Sources further stated that the Union Home Ministry has directed CAPF forces to "immediately" move and take position in the union territory. "The Union home ministry has decided to deploy about 580 CAPF companies for the Amarnath Yatra this time. This includes about 150-160 units already present in the UT," a senior officer told PTI. The companies have been drawn from "five CAPFs of CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and SSB. Each of these companies have an operational strength of about 70-75 personnel," he added further. The high-level security for the yatra comes after the terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 people. As per the report, Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to review the security arrangements for the pilgrimage during his visit to Jammu. The Amarnath Yatra will begin on July 3 and is set to continue till August 9, 2025. The 38-day yatra leads to the 3,880-metre-high holy cave housing a naturally formed ice-shivling in the union territory. Pilgrims can choose between the traditional 48-km route from Pahalgam in the Anantnag district or a shorter but steeper 14-km Baltal route in the Ganderbal district.
