Red Sox baseball boss Breslow says Devers trade does not mean 'waving of the white flag on 2025'

Washington Post6 hours ago

BOSTON — The Boston Red Sox thought they would be better off with a happy clubhouse than a disgruntled Rafael Devers.
A day after trading their erstwhile third baseman to the San Francisco Giants, Red Sox President Sam Kennedy told reporters on Monday night that Devers' refusal to change positions made it untenable for him to remain with the team.

Clemson players, prospects who are participating in the 2025 MLB draft combine

Clemson players, prospects who are participating in the 2025 MLB draft combine The MLB Draft Combine kicks off Tuesday at noon (EDT) in Phoenix, and Clemson will once again have a presence at the event. Per Baseball America, outfielder Cam Cannarella, standout transfer Ryan Wideman, and incoming signees Dax Kilby (SS) and Nick Frusco (LHP) are among the attendees. Cannarella and Kilby have both drawn Day 1 draft projections, with currently projecting Cannarella to go No. 38 overall to the Mets. Cannarella is the highest-ranked among the four, coming in at No. 39 on prospect list. Kilby follows at No. 79, Wideman at 155, and Frusco is currently unranked. Wideman, a Clemson legacy, recently transferred from Western Kentucky and joins Cannarella in earning All-American recognition for the 2024 season. calls Kilby 'one of the more polished high school bats' with second-round potential if he's signable. Cannarella is praised for his elite bat-to-ball skills, though there are questions about his power and swing discipline. Wideman is described as a highly athletic, toolsy outfielder, but scouts have concerns about his approach and contact quality. Last year, three Clemson-affiliated players attended the combine—two (Will Taylor and Austin Gordon) were drafted, while two signees enrolled at Clemson. The MLB Draft Combine includes medical evaluations, interviews with club executives, and media opportunities. MLB Network will begin live coverage at noon Tuesday. This year's MLB Draft is scheduled for July 13–14 during All-Star Week in Atlanta. How Bears' Cole Kmet is helping rookie Colston Loveland

Chicago Bears rookie tight end Colston Loveland has been waiting to get back on the football field after shoulder surgery back in January. But he's remained involved in meeting rooms and as an observer, where he's already leaning on his veteran teammates. That includes tight end Cole Kmet, entering his sixth season with Chicago, who has served as a sounding board and mentor for the Bears' top rookie throughout the offseason program. Advertisement "All the tight ends have been super helpful, but Cole, that's a vet right there," Loveland said. "[He] does everything the right way. Really good at football; really good mentally, really good physically. He's a great guy to look up to, and he's been very [helpful] … If I run a route or do something, he'll tell me some things, how he sees it, some coverage things, or whatever it may be. He's been super helpful and I'm very appreciative." Kmet previously discussed his approach to mentoring Loveland, where he reflected back on his time as a rookie with Jimmy Graham in that leadership role, as well as sharing his experiences with Loveland. Head coach Ben Johnson has sang Loveland's praises for how he's managed to stay involved from a mental standpoint as he remains unable to get on the field with the rest of the team. Loveland has spent the offseason immersing himself in the playbook as he aims to build those mental reps. The good news is Loveland is expected to be ready for training camp next month, and the team will finally get a glimpse at what Loveland and Kmet can do as a dynamic 1-2 punch on offense.
