MLB Post Impressive Red Sox Feat After Mariners Game
MLB Post Impressive Red Sox Feat After Mariners Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Boston Red Sox continued their surge on Monday night, blanking the Seattle Mariners 2-0 on the road. It was Boston's sixth straight win, improving their record to 38-36 on the season. Advertisement The win was powered by elite starting pitching and just enough offense. Lucas Giolito dominated on the mound, tossing six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out 10 batters. After the game, MLB highlighted a rare achievement from the Red Sox. "The @RedSox toss their second shutout in a row to win their 6th straight game! The last time Boston had back-to-back shutouts was Sept. 19-20, 2017." Giolito followed up a strong performance on Sunday by Brayan Bello, who pitched seven scoreless innings against the Yankees, allowing just three hits while striking out eight. The bullpen also came through in both games, retiring the final 15 batters combined. Advertisement With this stretch of pitching dominance, the Red Sox now rank 17th in MLB with a 3.91 team ERA, just behind the Twins at 3.86 and Phillies at 3.87. Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Lucas Giolito (54)Dale Zanine-Imagn Images Two other notable moments came out of Monday's win. It marked Boston's first game without Rafael Devers, who was traded to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday night. It also featured the first major league home run by outfielder Roman Anthony. His first-inning blast to center field turned out to be the difference in the game. The Red Sox have quietly become one of the hottest teams in baseball, winning eight of their last ten. With improved pitching, emerging young talent and a clear focus on development, Boston looks poised to make a second-half push in the American League playoff race.
