Hulk Hogan dead: WWE legend dies aged 71 as Ric Flair leads tributes

Hulk Hogan has passed away at the age of 71, with the WWE legend reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest as tributes flood in for the icon who has been celebrated as "one of pop culture's most recognisable figures."
It's been reported that paramedics were summoned to Hulk's residence in Clearwater, Florida in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Hogan served as the headline attraction for the inaugural WrestleMania in 1985 and remained a mainstay for years in the company's flagship event, taking on everyone from Andre The Giant and Randy Savage to The Rock.
He also battled company chairman Vince McMahon.
He secured six WWE championships during his career and was enshrined in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005 by Sylvester Stallone, reports the Mirror.
A statement from the organisation read: "WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away. One of pop culture's most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan's family, friends, and fans."
Ex-WWE owner and supremo Vince McMahon said: "The world lost a treasure today. Hulk Hogan was the greatest WWE Superstar of ALL TIME, someone who was loved and admired around the world. He was a trailblazer, the first performer who transitioned from being a wrestling star into a global phenomenon.
"His grit and unbridled thirst for success were unparalleled - and made him the consummate performer. He gave everything he had to the audience whom he appreciated, respected and loved.
"He leaves us with one of his favorite expressions, "Train, take your vitamins and say your prayers." Today, we pray for him."
Ric Flair who, like Hogan, was a champion of the sport, paid his respects as he said: "I Am Absolutely Shocked To Hear About The Passing Of My Close Friend @HulkHogan!
"Hulk Has Been By My Side Since We Started In The Wrestling Business. An Incredible Athlete, Talent, Friend, And Father! Our Friendship Has Meant The World To Me. He Was Always There For Me Even When I Didn't Ask For Him To Be.
"He Was One Of The First To Visit Me When I Was In The Hospital With A 2% Chance Of Living, And He Prayed By My Bedside. Hulk Also Lent Me Money When Reid Was Sick. Hulkster, No One Will Ever Compare To You! Rest In Peace My Friend!"
One of the sport's best known figures, The Undertaker, said: "The wrestling world has lost a true legend. His contributions to our business are immeasurable, and for that, I am appreciative. Thank you, Hulk Hogan."
Fellow legend Kurt Angle added: "R.I.P Hulkster, thank you for opening up doors for so many people in the business including myself. There would not be a Kurt Angle, without the American Made, Hulk Hogan. My heart and prayers go out to his family. We lost a real icon today."
Hogan's stature saw him become a celebrity outside the wrestling world, appearing in numerous movies and television shows, including a reality show about his life on VH1, "Hogan Knows Best".
Former wrestler Brutus Beefcake said: "Through the good times and the bad, I always loved my brother Terry! I am devastated by the loss of my friend, I only wish we had time to mend our broken friendship before his passing. Until I see you Brother, in the big squared circle in the sky! I love you". Ozzy Osbourne funeral details and timings for star's final journey

A procession in Birmingham is set to honour Ozzy Osbourne before his funeral tomorrow. The Black Sabbath legend passed away last week and will be laid to rest on Wednesday, July 30, in a private ceremony for family. Fans eager to bid farewell to Ozzy can join a special procession tomorrow morning along Broad Street, leading to the Black Sabbath bridge and bench where floral tributes have been placed for the music icon. Ozzy's cortege will be joined by his family as it moves down Broad Street at 1pm, accompanied by the live sounds of Bostin' Brass, allowing the city to pause and pay homage to the Black Sabbath frontman. The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Zafar Iqbal MBE, JP, commented: "Ozzy was more than a music legend - he was a son of Birmingham. Having recently been awarded the Freedom of the City and following his celebrated appearance at the Back to the Beginning concert at Villa Park earlier this month, it was important to the city that we support a fitting, dignified tribute ahead of a private family funeral. We know how much this moment will mean to his fans. "We're proud to host it here with his loving family in the place where it all began, and we are grateful that they have generously offered to pay to enable this to happen and support the city is giving him the farewell he deserves.", reports the Mirror. (Image:for The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame) Broad Street is set to be off-limits for traffic from 7am tomorrow, with diversions in place for buses and trams. The procession is slated to commence at 1pm, after which the road will be reopened. The Osbourne family has generously covered the costs of the procession, while the council has facilitated the road closure. For those unable to make it to the event, a live stream will be available showcasing Black Sabbath bridge, already adorned with floral tributes for the music legend. The cortege will also pass by this iconic spot, where flowers embellish both the bridge and the nearby bench. At the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, fans can pen their messages in a book of condolence for Ozzy, situated near the Ozzy Osbourne Working Class Hero exhibition that Sharon Osbourne inaugurated last month. Birmingham boasts several tributes to the band, including the Black Sabbath Mural on Navigation Street, Ozzy the Bull at New Street Station, and The Station pub, the very venue where Black Sabbath debuted in 1968. Ozzy's affection for Birmingham was profound, culminating in his wish to perform one final show at Villa Park. In an unforgettable farewell last month, he and Black Sabbath delivered a spectacular performance, knowing it would be their last. The heartfelt message atop the announcement of his passing stated "Birmingham, England July 22, 2025", signifying that Ozzy had indeed returned home one final time. Ozzy and Sharon had previously expressed their desire to relocate back to the UK from Los Angeles. He expressed his longing to return home, citing his struggle with Parkinson's and the surgeries for a spinal injury as reasons for the delay. In May, he poignantly shared: "It's time for me to spend some time with my grandkids. I don't want to die in a hotel room somewhere. I want to spend the rest of my life with my family." He yearned to be back in the UK and even remarked "Everything's f***ing ridiculous [in America]". In 2022, he voiced his frustration: "I'm fed up with people getting killed every day. God knows how many people have been shot in school shootings. And there was that mass shooting in Vegas at that concert. ... it's f***ing crazy." Tragically, Ozzy passed away just weeks after his final performance, in the presence of his family, who issued a heart-wrenching statement. They said: "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time." Floral tributes are left on the Black Sabbath Bridge bench on Broad Street in Birmingham (Image: PA) Procession details: For those wishing to pay their respects, the procession will make its way down Broad Street to Black Sabbath bridge. The procession is set to commence at 1pm, with his family following the cortege and fans lining the route to watch. Stewards will be on hand to assist those who have congregated to pay tribute to the music legend. Those planning to attend are encouraged to utilise public transport due to the large crowds expected at the event. Road closures: Broad Street will be shut from 7am on Wednesday, July 30th to facilitate preparations for the procession. The procession is set to commence at 1pm and the road will be reopened once the cortege has passed through. Can I watch from home? For those unable to join the procession in Birmingham physically, it's been confirmed that the live feed of the Black Sabbath bridge and bench will stay active throughout the entire event. The cortege will pass by the bridge, so fans hoping to catch a glimpse of the procession from the comfort of their homes might be able to do so via this livestream. The bridge and bench are adorned with floral tributes. For more of the latest breaking news from the Irish Mirror check out our homepage by clicking here.

Hulk Hogan's son joins WWE wrestlers in emotional tribute to his father

Hogan, real name Terry Bollea, died last Thursday after suffering a cardiac arrest at the age of 71. He is survived by Nick, 35, and estranged daughter Brooke, 37, whom he shared with his first ex-wife, Linda. An emotional Nick was joined by his wife, Tana Lea, and a number of WWE superstars at the beginning of WWE's flagship show Raw to commemorate Hogan. The episode was broadcast from Detroit and streamed on Netflix. Nick could be seen wiping tears away from his face during the heartfelt moment. Other notable faces present during the tribute included top WWE stars such as CM Punk, Gunther, Jey Uso, Iyo Sky and Dominik Mysterio. Eric Bischoff, who worked for WWE between 2002 and 2007 and was a close friend and business associate of Hogan's, also appeared during the salute to the 71-year-old. Addressing the crowd, WWE's chief content officer, Paul 'Triple H' Levesque, said: 'He [Hogan] captivated millions of people and inspired them around the globe. 'We would not be standing here right now – all of us together – if it was not for him.'' This was the second time that WWE had honoured Hogan's legacy on TV since his death on 24 July. Friday's episode of SmackDown also featured a 10-bell salute to the former world champion, as well as a video package that Levesque narrated. Nick Hogan previously wrote a heartfelt tribute to his father on Saturday (26 July). 'This has been overwhelming and extremely difficult,' he wrote on his Instagram, alongside a carousel of images of him and his father throughout the years. The first image featured the pair in matching red and yellow shirts when Nick was a young boy. 'Hearing so many kind words and stories about my dad's life, interactions and experiences with everyone has been incredible and comforting,' he added. Remembering Hogan as the 'most incredible person I've ever known' and his 'forever hero,' he called him the 'most kind, loving and amazing father anybody could ask for.' 'I feel so blessed to have had the greatest dad in the world,' Nick wrote. 'He was not only the best dad but also my mentor and my best friend. He always has been my best friend and I love him and miss him more than I could ever explain.' Hogan skyrocketed to fame in the 1980s, bringing professional wrestling into the mainstream. He went on to become an eight-time WrestleMania headliner and six-time World Wrestling Entertainment champion, in addition to an actor and reality television personality. He was also embroiled in controversy throughout his career. A sex tape scandal and racist remarks clouded his reputation and left him asking fans for forgiveness. The former wrestler also became a fixture during President Donald Trump's 2024 re-election campaign, appearing at the Republican National Convention to appeal to voters.
