A 70-year-old Sikh man, who is a resident of US state of California, suffered serious injuries after he was nearly beaten to death with a golf club in the North Hollywood area last week.
A video shared by victim's Harpal Singh to US-based news outlets ABC7 and KTLA showed (blurred out) the septuagenarian bleeding, sat on the sidewalk, after being brutally attacked while on his morning walk.
The Sikh community has urged local law enforcement authorities to investigate the case as a possible hate crime as Harpal remains in a medically induced coma in a hospital there.
His brother told American news outlets that Harpal underwent three surgeries following the attack that happened near a gurdwara.
'He is totally unconscious; they keep him under sedation," Gurdial Singh Randhawa was quoted as saying by Fox 11 Los Angeles .

The report said that no arrest has yet been made.
Witnesses told Los Angeles Police Department officers that the attacker appeared to be a man in his 50s and was riding a bicycle at the time of the assault.
Friends said the 70-year-old victim often fed birds in the parking lot behind the convenience store near the Gurudwara, according to KTLA .
Harpal was a regular at the Gurdwara of Los Angeles, visiting daily for prayer and meditation, their report said.
ABC7 in its report said that the 70-year-old barely survived the attack but has been in the hospital, unresponsive and in critical condition.

'An assault on any one member of our community is an assault on all of us," District 7 LA City council member Monica Rodriguez said while speaking to the outlet.
The fact that this happened and no one came to stop it until the point that Singh was left in such critical condition has absolutely spread fear in our community," said Munmeeth Kaur, the legal director of the Sikh Coalition, while speaking to ABC7 Shankhyaneel Sarkar

Target store shooter fired randomly, had history of mental illness: Police

Last Updated: Austin, Aug 12 (AP) The Texas man who fatally shot three people in a Target parking lot, including a 4-year-old child and her grandfather, was unprovoked and opened fire randomly, police said Tuesday. Police say a 32-year-old Ethan Nieneker fatally shot a Target worker gathering shopping carts in the parking lot, then killed a man and his granddaughter before stealing their car. Police Chief Lisa Davis said Nieneker had a history of mental health problems, but said she was unaware of any specific diagnosis. Austin police Sgt. Nathan Sexton said the victims were chosen randomly. The violence sent store employees and shoppers fleeing for cover. Police say he stole two cars during the getaway that ended with his arrest on the other side of the city. Online court records show Nieneker had a history of arrests for domestic violence and assault. He was being held Tuesday on capital murder charges. Jail records do not list an attorney for him. Nieneker had been arrested several times in recent years in both Travis County, which includes Austin, and neighboring Williamson County. His arrests in Travis County included misdemeanors for criminal mischief and driving while intoxicated, and three arrests on felony domestic violence charges. He was convicted of a charge of assault causing bodily injury family violence in 2016 and briefly sentenced to jail. Another charge within days of the 2016 episode was dismissed, according to court records. It was not immediately clear if those two charges were related. Another charge of felony assault on a family or household member in 2019 was dismissed three years later when prosecutors could not locate the victim. Williamson County records show repeated run-ins with law enforcement, including two cases of misdemeanor family violence in 2015 that were later dismissed. He was also convicted of possession of marijuana in 2012 and entered a no contest plea to a charge of criminal mischief in 2016. Monday's shooting came as back-to-school shopping was in full swing ahead of the upcoming academic year. Police said that after the shooting, Nieneker stole a car from the store parking lot, wrecked that car and then stole another from a dealership before being captured about 20 miles (32 kilometers) away, in south Austin, where he was taken into custody. Police said offices used a Taser to detain him. The Target shooting comes just over two weeks after an attack at a Walmart store in Michigan. A man accused of stabbing 11 people at the Traverse City store on July 26 has been charged with terrorism and multiple counts of attempted murder. Fatehpur violence matches BJP's divisive communal politics: Akhilesh

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday said vandalizing of a 200-year-old mausoleum in Fatehpur was in line with BJP's agenda of divisive politics that thrives on communal hatred. He demanded immediate and stringent action against those responsible for the violence. The issue rocked the state Assembly on Tuesday when Leader of Opposition and SP MLA Mata Prasad Pandey sought govt's response on the incident when parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Khanna informed the house that FIR has been lodged under stringent section of the BNS reflecting commitment of the government to bring guilty to book. Commenting on the sequence of events in Fatehpur, Akhilesh said it was yet another instance of BJP's politics of divide and rule. He said each and every person involved in the incident must be identified from the video footage and arrested immediately and action should be initiated against the district's DM and SP if they fail to initiate action against those involved. He said the incident reflected the BJP's decline and accused it of hatching conspiracies to disturb social harmony when facing public discontent. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The BJP wants to spread hatred between Hindus and Muslims. Whenever anyone raises issues of public interest, the BJP ends up pitting Hindus and Muslims against each other, he said responding to media queries in Ranchi. Akhilesh said this was not the first incident with communal overtones to have taken place in Fatehpur. He said sometime back a mosque was demolished in the Fatehpur district after being labelled "illegal" on the grounds that its layout map had not been approved. He then recalled how a Muslim youth was murdered recently and action against the accused was initiated only after the locals and political parties mounted pressure on the govt.
