Australia end West Indies tour unbeaten after completing T20 series clean sweep

The Guardian29-07-2025
Australia completed a flawless tour of the Caribbean with a three-wicket victory over West Indies in the fifth T20 to seal a series sweep in St Kitts. For the fifth time in as many matches, Australia won the toss and elected to bowl first, then restricted the West Indies to 170 and their lowest total in the series.
The white-ball sweep comes after Australia also won all three Tests on the tour though they were given a scare as West Indies found their way through the deep middle-order that has largely proven the difference across the five T20s. Cameron Green, Tim David and Mitch Owen contributed valuable runs in the chase but it was left to Aaron Hardie (28 not out) to guide Australia to 173-7 with 18 balls remaining.
Green (32 off 18) continued to build on his rich vein of form with a fourth significant innings before attempting to hit spinner Akeal Hosein over the rope but picking out Matthew Forde at long-off. The young allrounder juggled the catch to give the home side a sniff before Hardie and Ben Dwarshuis (9) took control. Sean Abbott later helped complete the rout.
David returned to the side and picked up where he left off after hammering a record-breaking 102 not out in the third match of the series. The powerful middle-order hitter blasted four sixes as he raced to 30 from 11 balls before finding Shimron Hetmyer on the leg side boundary off the bowling of Alzarri Joseph.
Owen quickly took the mantle from David as he put together a third eye-catching knock in his debut series to press his claims for a longer-term place in the side. The 23-year-old compiled a controlled 37 while taking few risks before reaching for a wide delivery from Hosein and edging to Joseph at short third man.
Mitch Marsh earlier called correctly as Australia won an eighth of eight tosses across two formats on the tour and again elected for the tourists to chase. A string of wickets early and late in the West Indies' innings meant the hosts were unable to post a big score on the small ground at Warner Park, Basseterre, before they were all out for 170 in the last over.
Hetmyer (52 off 31) helped lift West Indies to a more competitive total before falling to a low running catch by Abbott at long-off. Sherfane Rutherford (35 off 17) also showed signs of good touch and smashed Abbott for a huge six before being bowled by Glenn Maxwell as he attempted to cut.
Left-arm quick Ben Dwarshuis (3-41) returned to the side and bowled Shai Hope after being struck for successive boundaries, then had Brandon King (11) caught at mid-on. Adam Zampa (1-20 off three) celebrated his 100th T20I by bowling Joseph in the 19th over, as the West Indies again failed to make the most of the closing overs and lost their last four wickets for 15 runs.

The victory sealed Australia's first 5-0 sweep in a T20I series, while the West Indies had never before gone winless across five matches in the format. Australia will seek to build on their imperious form in the Caribbean with six white-ball matches against South Africa on home turf next month.

Lindy Klim stunned fans on Tuesday night by announcing a shock career move. The 46-year-old model shared a gallery of photos to social media which captured her and her daughter Stella, 19, posing on Channel Ten 's The Amazing Race. The glamorous mother-daughter duo looked incredible in matching beige outfits as they prepared to take on the challenges of the long-running reality TV show, which premieres Monday, September 8. 'What an experience! The Amazing Race is coming! Get ready for a good old laugh and some incredible sights,' Lindy began. 'Brace yourself Australia, you're about to laugh at my expense.' Lindy will be joined by an all-star cast, including British adventurer Ant Middleton, who was the Chief Instructor on Channel Seven 's SAS Australia, who will be competing on the series alongside his brother Dan. Channel Ten has unveiled the entire line-up on social media, consisting of 13 teams and some unexpected A-List faces were revealed. Other new additions include comedian Steph Tisdell and actor siblings Stephen and Bernard Curry. Rehan Ahmed impresses as Trent Rockets dominate Manchester Originals

Rehan Ahmed impressed with ball and bat to fire Trent Rockets to a one-sided seven-wicket victory over Manchester Originals. The home side dominated from the outset at Trent Bridge with captain David Willey taking three for 11 – including the wickets of Jos Buttler and Rachin Ravindra – inside the first 30 balls. Ahmed then removed Phil Salt and Heinrich Klaasen as the Originals staggered to 51 for six – the lowest score by a team after 60 balls in this season's Hundred – before they finished on 98 for eight. Joe Root (four) and Tom Banton (11) fell to Sonny Baker and Ravindra in the space of four balls to leave the Rockets on 21 for two and provide some hope for the visitors. However, Ahmed fired 45 runs off 35 deliveries, while Tom Moores also chipped in with an unbeaten 22 as the Rockets cruised to their target with 26 balls remaining. The Rockets are second in the table, level on points with Southern Brave, albeit behind on net runs, while the Originals' seventh defeat in eight away from Old Trafford sees them drop to sixth. Earlier, Beth Mooney and Kathryn Bryce steered the Originals to an emphatic 10-wicket victory against the Rockets. England duo Sophie Ecclestone (two for 12) and Lauren Filer (three for 23) sent the visitors on their way as the Rockets – with Nat Sciver-Brunt (34) the only home batter to make it out of the teens – were restricted to 111 for seven. In response, captain Mooney (47 from 37 balls) landed four boundaries and one six, while Bryce (61 from 45 deliveries), who also took two wickets with the ball, struck eight fours. Their record opening partnership paved the way for the Originals to complete just the third 10-wicket win in history of The Hundred women's competition with 18 balls spare. The Originals have now recorded four wins from their six games taking them into the play-off positions in third, and boosting their hopes of progressing out of the group phase. However, the Rockets stay in sixth having amassed four losses from their five fixtures.

Ahmed impresses as Rockets crush Originals

The Hundred men's competition, Trent Bridge Manchester Originals 98-8 (100 balls): Gregory 33* (21); Willey 3-11Trent Rockets 101-3 (74 balls): Ahmed 45* (35), Moores 22* (13)Trent Rockets won by seven wickets Scorecard. Table Rehan Ahmed starred with bat and ball as Trent Rockets sealed a comprehensive seven-wicket win over Manchester Originals at Trent Bridge. Ahmed took 2-14 in a fine bowling effort alongside Rockets skipper David Willey, who ripped through the top order with 3-11, before scoring an unbeaten 45 as the home side reached their subpar target of 99 with 26 balls to Originals trudged to 98-8 on a slow and sluggish surface, set up by Willey who pinned opener Ben McKinney lbw for a duck from the fourth ball of the innings, before having former England white-ball captain Jos Buttler caught behind for 19 and New Zealand international Rachin Ravindra was dismissed the same way first ball. Ahmed then ended any hopes of an Originals recovery as the destructive Heinrich Klaasen holed out for nine from 16 balls and opener Phil Salt fell for 19. Only Lewis Gregory offered any resistance for the Originals with his unbeaten 33 from 21 balls and despite losing openers Joe Root and Tom Banton early, the Rockets made light work of the chase for a welcome net run-rate boost which keeps the pressure on top of the table Oval Invincibles. Root misjudged a scoop and was caught behind for four, Baton was lbw to Ravindra for 11 and Max Holden fell to a spectacular one-handed catch by Salt, one of very few moments for the Originals to celebrate as they were completely outplayed. Ahmed was given a reprieve when he was dismissed on 39 by a Noor Ahmad no-ball with only seven runs left to win, but fittingly the all-rounder struck the winning boundary after a fifth-wicket stand of 40 with Tom Moores, who made 22 not out from 13. Rockets remain second in the table, equal on points with Brave but behind on net run-rate, while Originals drop to sixth. What is happening on Wednesday?
