ONGC to Swiggy - Vinay Rajani of HDFC Sec suggests these 3 stocks to buy in the near-term
Stock market today: India's stock market benchmarks gained ground following a lackluster opening on Monday, buoyed by increases in IT and financial sectors after experiencing two consecutive sessions of decline due to a worsening conflict between Israel and Iran.
As of 12:37 IST, the Nifty 50 increased by 0.85% to reach 24,929 . 20, while the Sensex climbed 0.77% to hit 81,752.79.
Following the widespread sell-off in the previous two sessions, the markets seem poised for a short-term rebound; however, geopolitical developments will continue to be a significant factor, according to market analysts. Over the weekend, fresh attacks were exchanged between Israel and Iran, raising concerns about broader instability in the oil-rich area. Crude oil prices rose amid worries about supply disruptions, which poses a risk for India, a nation heavily dependent on oil imports.
Vinay Rajani of HDFC Securities recommends Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC), Swiggy Ltd, and Macrotech Developers Ltd (Lodha).
The Nifty 50 continued its consolidation for the fourth consecutive week, experiencing a weekly fall of 1.14%. The Nifty 50 closed below its 20-day EMA (24,791), with the next key support at the 50-day EMA, currently positioned at 24,386. The index has maintained its level above the swing low of 24,462, indicating a continuation of the consolidation phase within the 24,500 and 25,200 range for the fourth straight week.
A notable development during the week was the Nifty 50 finding resistance at the swing high made in October 2024, concluding the week with a bearish 'Dark Cloud Cover' candlestick
pattern on the weekly chart. This bearish pattern will be confirmed if the Nifty breaks below the candle's low in the upcoming sessions without breaching the high.
A close below 24462 could lead to a further slide towards the unfilled gap of 24378-24164 (formed on May 12, 2025), and a closing below 24,164 would signal a bearish trend reversal positionally.
The Bank Nifty has formed a bearish 'Engulfing' pattern on its weekly chart. The negative implication of this pattern will be validated if the index breaks its candle's low of 55,149. Should this occur, the Bank Nifty could slide down to its next support level of 53,500. On the upside, the 56,000-56,200 band is expected to offer resistance.
The Midcap100 and Microcap250 indices are still holding their uptrend on positional charts, representing resilience in the broader market. However, they also need to protect their levels aboven last week's lows to sustain their upward momentum.
Adding to the cautious sentiment, Brent crude has seen a significant price jump, while the Indian rupee has experienced healthy depreciation against the dollar. The combination of higher crude prices and a weaker rupee could collectively contribute to weak Indian equity market sentiments going forward.
In summary, while the broader market indices are holding up, both Nifty and Bank Nifty are showing bearish technical patterns and consolidating within key ranges. Critical support levels need to be defended to prevent a potential bearish trend reversal, and external factors like crude oil prices and currency depreciation could add further pressure.
Nifty Strategy : Despite a bullish primary trend, Nifty 50 is currently undergoing short-term consolidation. Traders holding long positions should maintain a stop-loss at 24,462. A breach below this level could lead to a further decline towards 24,164 support, and a sustainable close below 24,164 would positionally reverse the bullish trend. Conversely, a close above 25,000 would negate the possibility of a downtrend.
Vinay Rajani of HDFC Securities recommends these three stocks in the near term - Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC), Swiggy Ltd, and Macrotech Developers Ltd (Lodha).
ONGC share price has broken out from multi-week consolidation with rising volumes. Stock price has taken out multi top resistance of 252 and has been sustaining above it. Stock is placed above all key moving averages, indicating a bullish trend on all time frames. Indicators and oscillators have been showing strength on the daily and weekly time frames.
Swiggy share price has surpassed the crucial resistance of 20 DEMA with healthy volumes. Daily RSI has been sustaining above 50, which shows the strength in the stock. Daily MACD has shown positive crossover on signal as well as on equilibrium line. Stock has started forming higher top and higher bottom formation on the daily chart. Stock price has taken out previous swing high resistance.
Macrotech Developers share price has broken out from the descending triangle pattern on the weekly chart. Stock is placed above key moving averages, indicating bullish trend on all time frames. Realty sector index has been outperforming for last couple of weeks. Monthly RSI has given bullish crossover, which indicates strength in the stocks. Volumes have risen along with the recent price rise. Stock has been forming higher tops and higher bottoms on the daily.

The two-day visit is commencing from June 18. During the visit, Mr. Goyal and Secretary of State for Business and Trade Reynolds, "will engage with the India-U.K. FTA negotiating teams to take stock of the progress achieved and to chart a clear, time-bound roadmap toward finalisation and implementation of the agreement", the official said. India-Canada ties 'extremely important': PM Modi tells Canadian counterpart
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said relations between India and Canada are "extremely important" and the two nations should work together to achieve win-win cooperation in various sectors. Prime Minister Modi and his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney held bilateral discussions on the margins of the G7 Summit here. This was the first meeting between the two leaders since Carney assumed office in May 2025. Congratulating Carney on his grand victory in the election, Modi said, I am sure under your leadership, we will be able to work together in a positive way and take the India-Canada relationship forward." I believe that India-Canada relations are extremely important and India and Canada should work together and achieve win-win cooperation in several areas, Modi said in his remarks ahead of the bilateral meeting. He said Canadian companies have invested in India in a big way, and Indian people have also invested in Canada substantially. We both stand for democratic values. Together, we can strengthen democratic values, we can strengthen humanity, Modi said, adding that if the two nations work together and optimally utilise all their resources, We can work for the welfare of the entire humanity." I am extremely confident that we'll be able to do this task, said Modi, who is in Canada at the invitation of Carney to attend the G7 Summit. "Had an excellent meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney. Complimented him and the Canadian Government for successfully hosting the G7 Summit," Modi said in an X post. "India and Canada are connected by a strong belief in democracy, freedom and rule of law. PM Carney and I look forward to working closely to add momentum to the India-Canada friendship. Areas like trade, energy, space, clean energy, critical minerals, fertilisers and more offer immense potential in this regard," he said. In his opening remarks ahead of the meeting, Carney said it was a great honour to host Modi at the G7. He said India has been participating in the G7 since 2018, and this is a testament to the importance of your country, to your leadership, and to the importance of the issues that we look to tackle together - from energy security, from the energy transition that you're hoping to lead, to the future of artificial intelligence, to the fight that we have against transnational repression, against terrorism, against other factors, and the work that we can do together. It is my great honour to have you here. I enjoyed your intervention just now and look forward to our discussion, Carney said. Modi further said that he was happy to get the opportunity to visit Canada after 2015 and to be in touch with the people of Canada. This is his first visit to Canada in a decade. India is the largest democracy in the world. During our chair of the G20 Summit, we took many initiatives for the welfare of the world, and today we are extending that resolve through the G7 summit and going to execute it through the help of this platform as well." Modi said this is a great opportunity for us to serve the public good, the global good. It has always been India's intention to promote global goods, and today through G7 we have that same opportunity. Carney's invitation to Modi to attend the G7 Summit signalled the new government's intent to repair the ties with New Delhi that plummeted to an all-time low over the killing of pro-Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. In October last year, India recalled its high commissioner and five other diplomats after Ottawa attempted to link them to the Nijjar case. India also expelled an equal number of Canadian diplomats. India had accused former prime minister Justin Trudeau's government of allowing pro-Khalistani elements to operate from Canadian soil. Carney, an economist and political newcomer, took charge as Canada's new prime minister in March following the exit of Trudeau from the top office. After Trudeau's exit, New Delhi said it hoped to rebuild ties with Canada based on "mutual trust and sensitivity". In the last few months, the security officials of India and Canada resumed contact and both sides were looking at the possibility of appointing new high commissioners. Describing India and Canada as "vibrant democracies", the external affairs ministry said last week that New Delhi believes the forthcoming meeting between the prime ministers of the two countries on the sidelines of the G7 Summit will offer an important opportunity to exchange views and "explore pathways" to reset bilateral ties. During PM Modi's last visit in 2015, bilateral ties were elevated to the level of strategic partnership. Bilateral trade in goods in 2024 stood at USD 8.6 billion. India exported USD 4.2 billion and imported USD 4.4 billion worth of goods. Bilateral trade in services in 2024 stood at USD 14.3 billion, with India exporting USD 2.5 billion and importing USD 11.8 billion worth of services.
