South Coast Plaza welcomes new retailers
California luxury shopping destination South Coast Plaza has announced a wave of exclusive new boutiques and fresh retail concepts set to debut throughout spring and summer.
After welcoming nearly 40 boutiques in 2024 alone, South Coast Plaza is poised to surpass that figure this year with an impressive slate of store openings and reimagined spaces that further cement its position as the West Coast's premier luxury shopping hub.
Recent highlights include the West Coast flagship for Dior Beauty, the arrival of luxury French swimwear brand Eres, and a new Tiffany & Co. pop-up.
Later this spring and into summer, the shopping destination will welcome Ami Paris, Eleventy, and Guerlain, along with new boutiques from Gianvito Rossi, Moncler, Roger Vivier, Sandro, and See's Candies.
Fall will bring even more coveted names, including Alo, Skims, and redesigned store concepts for Bottega Veneta, Camilla, Club Monaco, Crate & Barrel, MaxMara, and Tumi.
"This spring is an exciting time of growth at South Coast Plaza," said Debra Gunn Downing, executive director of marketing.

Spanish luxury brand Loewe has announced the winner of its annual contemporary art and craft award. For the 2025 edition of its Craft Prize, Loewe—through its foundation established by the founding family—has honored Japanese artist Kunimasa Aoki for his work 'Realm of Living Things 19.' . Created in 2024, the award-winning piece earned Aoki a €50,000 prize. The sculpture was crafted using anamorphic terracotta and various innovative force-application techniques. It underwent a smoking process and was finished with decorative earth-based materials and pencil markings. The work was recognized for its artistic merit, technical complexity, and innovation, particularly in its interpretation of traditional coiling methods. Aoki was selected from a pool of 30 finalists by a jury of 12 professionals from the worlds of design, architecture, journalism, criticism, and museum curation. Notable jurors included essayist and architect Frida Escobedo, architect and industrial designer Patricia Urquiola, architect Wang Shu, and Olivier Gabet, director of the decorative arts department at the Louvre Museum. In addition to the main prize, the jury also honored Nigerian designer Nifemi Marcus-Bello for his work TM Bench with Bowl, crafted from recycled aluminum and inspired by globalization and power dynamics. Indian studio Sumakshi Singh was also recognized for Monument, a life-size reinterpretation of a 12th-century Delhi colonnade created with copper zari. 'As we celebrate the eighth edition of the prize, I am amazed by the incredible display of ingenuity, beauty, and craftsmanship shown by the finalists. To me, the magic of the prize lies in witnessing the ability of craft to surprise, innovate, and evolve year after year. It is an honor to see how the prize helps keep the craft alive and relevant,' said Sheila Loewe, president of the Loewe Foundation. All finalist works from the latest edition of the international competition—launched by the Loewe Foundation in 2016 in tribute to the house's roots as an artisanal workshop—will be on display from May 30 to June 29 at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid. A digital exhibition of the entries will also be available online for public viewing. Founded in 1846 in Madrid, Loewe is a globally renowned luxury house, owned by French conglomerate LVMH, known for its craftsmanship and original creations. In March, Loewe's creative direction was handed over to design duo Jack McCollough and Lázaro Hernández of Proenza Schouler, following the departure of Northern Irish designer Jonathan Anderson. Anderson stepped down to take on the role of menswear design director at Dior, another house within French businessman Bernard Arnault 's luxury portfolio.

Macron signs 'tangible roadmap' AI and tech deal during Singapore trip
French President Emmanuel Macron said France's newly signed partnership with Singapore will serve as a "tangible roadmap to innovate together" in fields ranging from artificial intelligence and technology to nuclear energy and defence. "Our defence cooperation, shared support of multilateralism, and joint investment in breakthrough technologies are all paving the way for future generations," Macron said during a state lunch with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. Speaking to journalists at a joint presser with Macron, Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said both countries strongly believe in multilateralism and a rules-based global order. "We know that this global order is shifting. What we have seen before in the decades past is starting to change. No one knows what the new order will be in the coming years. So we are in a period of transition," Wong noted, emphasising the importance of cooperation between "like-minded countries" during this transitional period. Macron's state visit to Singapore is part of his week-long tour of Southeast Asia, where he focused on strengthening regional ties. On Wednesday, the French president met with his Indonesian counterpart Prabowo Subianto to discuss boosting defence and trade cooperation between the two nations. The French leader is expected to deliver the keynote speech at the annual Shangri-La Dialogue, Asia's top security conference, later on Friday. The summit will focus on China's growing assertiveness, the global impact of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and the flare-ups of conflicts in Asia. The French leader is expected to touch on all those issues, as well as the sweeping tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump's administration that are looming over its Asian allies. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth will also be present this weekend among the world leaders, diplomats and top defence officials attending the Asian security summit, which is hosted by the International Institute for Security Studies. Hegseth, who is attending the forum for the first time, will give a speech on Saturday, where he is likely to discuss how the Trump administration plans to tackle security challenges in Asia and attempt to convince Asian leaders that the US is a more reliable partner than China. The defence secretary met with Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong prior to the conference, where he described the extent of the two nations' military cooperation as "unprecedented". "The amount of, the hospitality that you show to our troops, the rotational forces, our ships that are here, but then also the over a thousand members of your military over in the United States," Hegseth told Wong. The summit is taking place against the backdrop of escalating tensions between Beijing and Washington, triggered by the Trump administration's threat to impose triple-digit tariffs on China. There is also uncertainty regarding the United States' commitment to defending Taiwan, which it has also threatened with tariffs of 32%. Before boarding his plane for Singapore, Hegseth reiterated his administration's stance on Taiwan's defence. 'We seek no conflict with anybody, including the communist Chinese,' he said. "We will stay strong for our interests. And that's a big part of what this trip is all about.' Strong winds and heavy rains over the past two days have caused severe flooding in various parts of Romania. Emergency services said that hundreds of people have been evacuated from Covasna and Brasov counties in central Romania and Botosani in the north east. On Thursday, floods were threatening to destroy an old salt mine in Praid, in central Romania. The mine hosts beautiful galleries and a religious chapel and is an important tourist attraction, selling half a million tickets yearly. More rainfall was expected in the coming days over parts of northern Romania, officials said. The Corund River passes over the Praid Salt Mine. Following the heavy rains of the last few days, its water flow has reached the highest level in the last decades. 60 cubic meters per second. Macron tries to promote his 'third way' in Indonesia
Emmanuel Macron departed Indonesia on Thursday, May 29, hand in hand with his wife, Brigitte, bidding farewell from the presidential A330 to his host, Prabowo Subianto. The French president was concluding the second leg of a Southeast Asian tour that had taken him to Vietnam earlier in the week and would take him to Singapore, where he was set to open the Shangri-La Dialogue, a summit on industry and defense, on Friday. Alongside the ceremonial honors extended by the Indonesian president, Macron secured a collection of partnership promises and business commitments, in areas from agri-food to cinema, allowing France to tap into what he called the "new Indonesian wave." The Elysée said "€17 billion in contracts" were signed in Jakarta, without disclosing any details about the deals. In the defense sector, Paris had hoped to sell additional Rafale fighter jets, following an order of 42 aircraft in 2022. For now, Indonesia only signed a letter of intent on Wednesday, committing to purchase "additional Rafales from Dassault, as well as light frigates, Scorpène submarines from Naval Group and Caesar cannons and their munitions from KNDS France," Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu said on X (formerly Twitter).
