Wales beaten by Korea despite Furlong landmark
Wales' men suffered a 3-2 defeat to Korea in their second game at the FIH Nations League in Malaysia, despite opening the scoring with a landmark Gareth Furlong goal.
Winning his 150th Wales cap, the 33-year-old Great Britain defender reached a century of goals for his country from a penalty corner shortly before the end of the second quarter.

However, Korea hit back with goals from Jihun Yang and Jungjun Lee late in quarter three, then extended their lead through Dohyun Lim with four minutes to go.
Rhys Bradshaw cut the deficit for Wales with 88 seconds to play, but Danny Newcombe's side were unable to force a second draw of their campaign following Sunday's 4-4 draw with South Africa.
Making their debut at the second-tier Nations League, Wales complete their pool fixtures against group leaders France on Wednesday.
Wales' women are also in action this week. They take on Italy in the FIH Hockey Women's Nations Cup 2 in Poland later on Monday, before games against Czech Republic on Tuesday and France on Thursday.

Club World Cup 'tough' but 'beautiful' for Mamelodi Sundowns
Miguel Cardoso's Mamelodi Sundowns play Ulsan HD of South Korea in their opening Club World Cup game on Tuesday in Orlando (Khaled DESOUKI) Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso knows the Club World Cup will be a huge test of his side's credentials and said Monday making it out of the group stage would be "an incredible achievement" as they prepare for their opening game. "I don't believe there is one single team before the competition that doesn't believe they can make the next stage," Cardoso said when asked about his team's tournament prospects ahead of their Group F clash with Ulsan HD of South Korea. Advertisement "Obviously for us it would be an incredible achievement to go through the group stage but before we achieve that we need to get points so we need to play a very complete match tomorrow." Perennial South African champions Sundowns qualified for FIFA's lucrative new tournament on the back of their record over the last four years in African competitions. However, they travelled to the United States still reeling after losing to Pyramids of Egypt in the final of the CAF Champions League two weeks ago. Putting in a good showing in a group also featuring German giants Borussia Dortmund and Brazilian powerhouses Fluminense would help make up for that disappointment. Advertisement "I know it's going to be tough but I expect it to be beautiful," said the 53-year-old Portuguese Cardoso, who has also coached in France, Spain, Greece and Tunisia. "We need to take it to the limit. There is a ceiling you need to go through at this Club World Cup. "We need to understand what level we are playing at, and now just show what we can do and take the results as they come." After Sundowns meet Ulsan in Orlando they will head to Cincinnati to face Dortmund this weekend before taking on Fluminense in Miami on June 25. "I am pretty excited to see an African team against an Asian team and am curious to see how we deal with playing Dortmund and a Brazilian team," Cardoso said. "It's three different tests and in the end they should all help us develop." as/rbs

Wrexham sign forward Ryan Hardie from Plymouth on three-year deal
Wrexham have signed forward Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle. Phil Parkinson's side are preparing for their first season in the Championship for 43 years with Hardie the first arrival of the window. The 28-year-old has signed a three-year deal after an undisclosed fee was agreed between the clubs. Hardie leaves Plymouth after five years, during which the former Scotland youth international scored 74 goals in 248 games. Advertisement He joins a long list of senior strikers at the SToK Cae Ras as Wrexham prepare to kick-off life in the second tier following three consecutive promotions. 'To get a full pre-season will be a massive benefit,' says Hardie. 'To get integrated into the squad and learn the way the manager plays and get to know everyone will be important. 'The last couple of seasons, it's been a good experience in the Championship and it's experience I can lean on now. I've enjoyed playing there and I've managed to score a few goals so, hopefully, that can continue.' Hardie's two years in the Championship before Plymouth were relegated in May yielded 22 goals in 61 starts, plus another 16 appearances from the bench. With Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez finishing last season as the first choice partnership in a 3-5-1-1 formation, a number of Wrexham exits seem inevitable in the coming weeks. Even following the departure of Steven Fletcher and Sam Dalby this summer, Phil Parkinson still has seven strikers at his disposal as Hardie joins Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer, Jack Marriott, Mo Faal in the squad, alongside Smith and Rodriguez. Hardie, who joined Plymouth permanently in January 2021 after a couple of loan spells at Home Park, scored the penalty that last season knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup at the fourth-round stage. Brian Barry-Murphy appointed Cardiff City head coach
Cardiff City have appointed Brian Barry-Murphy as their new head coach. Barry-Murphy, 46, had worked as assistant to Ruud van Nistelrooy at Leicester City since December. The Cork-born coach replaces Omer Riza, who was dismissed in April, and will lead Cardiff as they embark on their first season in the third tier since 2002-03. Midfielder Aaron Ramsey was placed in interim charge of the club for the remaining three games of 2024-25 after Riza was sacked, but he could not prevent the club's relegation to League One as they finished bottom of the Championship. Cardiff City Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Brian Barry-Murphy as First Team Head Coach. The 46-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the #Bluebirds, which runs until the summer of 2028.#CityAsOne — Cardiff City FC (@CardiffCityFC) June 16, 2025 The role marks Barry-Murphy's first senior head coach role since he departed Rochdale in 2021. He went on to spend three years working with Manchester City's under-23 side, helping with the development of future Premier League players including Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia and Oscar Bobb. Barry-Murphy led City's under-23s to two Premier League 2 titles and is highly regarded as a coach for playing a progressive, possession-based style, heavily influenced by Pep Guardiola. 'Pep changes the way you think about football. I used to hear people say that and think, 'Really?'' he told The Athletic in September. Advertisement 'It sounds a bit dramatic, like. But he does. He makes sense of the way you have to work repetitively every single day to bring to life the things you want to see on the day of a game. 'It's so simple in terms of how he implements it, but it's so difficult in terms of how obsessive he is about repetition and preparation. He's incredible, incredible.' Leicester were relegated from the Premier League under Van Nistelrooy last season following an 18th-place finish in the top flight.
