Patriots reportedly agree to deal with Pro Bowl edge rusher
The New England Patriots kick-started the free agency blitz on Sunday by reportedly agreeing in principle on a deal with former Pro Bowl linebacker Harold Landry III.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported the contract will be a three-year deal for $46.5 million with $26 million in guaranteed money.
The Tennessee Titans agreed to allow Landry to seek a trade back in February, and it seemed likely from the very beginning that the Patriots would show interest. Patriots coach Mike Vrabel was the head coach for the Titans when the team selected the veteran defender in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft.
Landry is one of the more highly-productive and consistent linebackers in the league. He racked up 71 tackles, nine sacks, four pass deflections and a safety in 2024. That performance came on the heels of back-to-back double-digit sack seasons.
This move is an impressive start to the Vrabel era for the rebuilding Patriots, and it's likely only the tip of the iceberg for a team that has a lot of money to spend and plenty of holes to fill.

Jason Kelce Reveals the Truth on Major Personal Decision

Jason Kelce Reveals the Truth on Major Personal Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Jason Kelce has been doing a lot since he retired from the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024. Since then, the Super Bowl-winning center has gotten himself a deal with ESPN as a football analyst, which also gave birth to his own talk show on the esteemed sports network, "They Call It Late Night With Jason Kelce." Advertisement On top of that, the 37-year-old also runs a very successful podcast with his brother, Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, entitled "New Heights." Kelce has also ventured into multiple businesses. Apart from being a part-owner of Cincinnati, Ohio-based alcoholic beverage company Garage Beer, the NFL icon also decided to invest in his passion for golf. In May, Kelce was officially announced as a part-owner of the Sullivan County Golf Club in Liberty, New York. The seven-time Pro Bowl center joined actor Bill Murray and entrepreneur Mike Madden, the son of NFL legend Mike Madden, among others, as part of the golf club's high-profile ownership group. In a recent interview, Kelce opened up about his major personal decision to invest in Sullivan County. According to the former Eagles star, it was renowned golf writer and editor Tom Coyne who paved the way for him. Advertisement "So Tom and I played golf and did a podcast that he has," Kelce said, via kelcebrothers on Instagram. "And we just kind of got to know each other through that. "And, you know, I've been getting more involved with golf. I'm doing some stuff with my nonprofit, Underdog ... But (I've) been working with Tom and doing some things on that front. I'm like, '(Expletive) Yeah, I want to go play a hoopie with Bill Murray.' And that's when we kind of got to talking. "It sounded like this nine-hole course up in the Catskills in Sullivan County was going to be pretty killer. ... From there, we kind of came together, and now we've got a golf course." Advertisement While it was not disclosed how much Kelce invested in this new business venture, there's no denying that purchasing a stake in a golf course had to burn a hole in his pockets. However, as Kelce said during the announcement, his relationship with the sport of golf has grown over the past few years, and he came to the conclusion that it was due time to make "a long-term commitment" by putting his money where his mouth is. Patriots' Carlton Davis' OTA Absence Flies Under Radar

Patriots' Carlton Davis' OTA Absence Flies Under Radar originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New England Patriots are transitioning into the next phase of their preseason preparations: a three-day mandatory mini-camp that begins on Monday. Advertisement But upon further reflection of the Patriots' OTAs, which took place over the past three weeks, some of the biggest headlines came from the players who missed significant parts of those voluntary activities. The most notable of these early absences was All-Pro wideout Stefon Diggs, who received backlash from a boat party video posted on social media over Memorial Day weekend. Diggs, who signed a three-year, $63.5 million contract in March, eventually showed up to Gillette Stadium and took steps towards recovering from an ACL injury he suffered last year. Cornerback Carlton Davis III, another player who the Patriots signed in free agency this offseason, also missed the majority of the team's OTAs, appearing for the first time at a practice session open to reporters this past Thursday, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss. New England Patriots cornerback Carlton Davis III discusses his recent free agent addition to the Patriots with the media at Gillette Canha-Imagn Images Davis III, who spent the 2024 season with the Detroit Lions, inked a three-year, $54 million deal with the Patriots on March 13. Prior to joining the Lions, he spent the first six years of his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Advertisement Davis III has appeared in 89 games, 88 of which he has started, in his time as a professional football player. He has 380 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 11 interceptions and 84 passes defended to his name. While with the Buccaneers, Davis III earned a Super Bowl ring with the Tom Brady-led squad in the 55th edition of the NFL's championship game. He recorded five tackles, including three solo stops, in the contest. Patriots' Mike Vrabel Explains What Leadership Is to Him

Patriots' Mike Vrabel Explains What Leadership Is to Him originally appeared on Athlon Sports. New England Patriots' new head coach Mike Vrabel has always been known as a leader and culture builder in the NFL. When Vrabel got his first head coaching opportunity with the Tennessee Titans, he led them to four-straight winning seasons and three playoff appearances. Advertisement Vrabel's teams have always been built on grit and toughness, just as he displayed during his 14-year NFL career. Monday morning, Vrabel met with the media and was asked about the leadership of his quarterback, Drake Maye. But his response focused more on what he believes leadership is. "I don't think it matters if you're a quarterback or an offensive lineman or a running back or a defensive back. It's about your ability to reach certain players," Vrabel said. "We don't want to have any gaps. So hopefully, you know what to do, you're prepared, you do things the right way, you're a good listener, you can adapt to what happens and adapt to the people that you're talking to, maybe based on what they need." New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel (c) works with players at rookie camp at Gillette Canha-Imagn Images Vrabel is in the midst of a rebuild in New England. The Patriots dominated the 2010s, playing in five Super Bowls and winning three. But since 2020, New England has had just one winning season. Advertisement The Patriots fired Jerod Mayo and brought in their former player Vrabel as the new head coach this season to try to bring back the grit, intensity, and discipline New England displayed during Bill Belichick's 24-year tenure. The first step for Vrabel, building leaders and relationships in his locker room. "Sometimes people need a little different encouraging and sometimes you need a little bit firmer hand and maybe a little bit more firmer stance," Vrabel said. "I think that's all important in understanding and getting to know each person before you can start to lead them." All signs from the offseason point to positivity in that department so far, as Vrabel continues to develop and grow the leadership of his young quarterback and new team.
