Vancouver Canucks NHL Draft guide: Picks, best fits and analysis
The Canucks are motivated to sell the No. 15 pick in their hunt to find a top-six center capable of bolstering their forward group. If the club can find the right upgrade, the preference is to move this pick outright. Vancouver is prepared, however, to make the selection at 15, and there are several centers that would appear to fit the bill for its needs. However, there are also a couple of blueliners that the Canucks are high on. They would find it difficult to pass them up if they were still on the board with the 15th pick, despite the relative strength of Vancouver's prospect system on the back end. — Thomas Drance

Vancouver hasn't used a top-two round pick on a center since it took Elias Pettersson in 2017. The Canucks don't have a deep farm system, but center is far and away their biggest organizational need.
In recent mock drafts, Corey Pronman has projected the following picks:
15. Jack Nesbitt, C
47. Semyon Frolov, G
65. Brandon Gorzynski, C
117. Viktor Klingsell, RW
143. Bruno Idzan, LW
175. Lukas Sawchyn, LW
207. Jan Skok, D

Léon Marchand tries to break his own 200 IM world record at the swim worlds in Singapore
SINGAPORE (AP) — Léon Marchand of France is out to break his own world record in Thursday's 200-meter individual medley at the swimming world championships in Singapore. If you missed it, Marchand only set the record on Wednesday in the semifinals at the worlds — 1 minute, 52.69 seconds. That shattered the old mark of 1:54.00 held by American Ryan Lochte since 2011. Of course, Marchand's victory is almost assured. The only question is by how much. A four-time gold medalist a year ago in the Paris Olympics, Marchand will share the stage on Day 5 with Canada's Summer McIntosh. McIntosh will go for her third medal in Singapore, this time in the 200 freestyle. Elizabeth Dekkers of Australia and American Regan Smith are the main rivals. She has already won gold in the 200 IM and 400 freestyle. McIntosh is bidding for five individual gold medals in Singapore after winning three individual Olympic gold medals in Paris. Yu Zidi, the 12-year-old Chinese swimmer, is the eighth-fastest qualifier in the field as she tries to reach the podium. She was fourth in the 200 IM. Three other finals are on the day's program and the Americans have shots. The United States has won only three gold medals in Singapore with the team battling a stomach bug picked up in training camp in Thailand. Head coach Greg Meehan has suggested team health is improving. In the men's 100 freestyle, American Jack Alexy and Romanian David Popovici were the quickest qualifiers. Popovici has already won the 200 free in Singapore. He was the gold medalist at 200 in Paris, and took bronze in the 100. American Regan Smith has the quickest time in the 50 backstroke followed very closely by Lauren Cox of Britain, American Katharine Berkoff, and Wan Letian of China. The last final of the day is the women's 4x200-meter freestyle relay. __ AP sports:

Blue Jays' John Schneider feeling nostalgic after Kevin Gausman outduels Tarik Skubal
The post Blue Jays' John Schneider feeling nostalgic after Kevin Gausman outduels Tarik Skubal appeared first on ClutchPoints. Nobody in baseball is as hot as the Toronto Blue Jays at the moment, who improved to 17-4 in the month of July with a very impressive victory over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night. The Jays have now won three in a row against the AL Central leaders and will go for the four-game sweep on Sunday in Detroit. While the Blue Jays have been surging and the Tigers have ben struggling, Saturday night's result was still somewhat surprising based on who was on the mound. Kevin Gausman took the bump for the Blue Jays while Tarik Skubal, the best pitcher in baseball, got the ball for the Tigers. Gausman has been solid this season, but has not quite been at the level of some of his best seasons in 2021 with the San Francisco Giants and in 2023 with the Toronto Blue Jays. However, he found that form again on Saturday to lead his team to a win. 'It looked like three years ago,' Blue Jays manager John Schneider said of the performance, via ESPN. 'He was just dominating where he wanted to go with the ball, and his splitter was a difference-maker.' Gausman pitched six innings and was nearly flawless all game long, giving up just one hit and one walk while striking out 10 batters. He did not give up a run as the Blue Jays raced to a 6-1 victory. On the other side, Skubal also brought some of his best stuff despite just making it through five innings and 96 pitches. He gave up five hits and three walks while striking out seven, but still didn't give up a run. Instead, the Detroit bullpen faltered late in the game as Toronto came away with the win. The Blue Jays currently have the best record in baseball at 63-42, but they will need more performances like this one from Gausman and the rest of their arms on the mound if they want to snap their World Series drought that dates all the way back to 1993. If he can keep this form up for a prolonged period moving forward, Toronto will be very tough to beat in the postseason. Tigers' Jake Rogers picks off Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with unbelievable throw
The post Tigers' Jake Rogers picks off Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with unbelievable throw appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Detroit Tigers saw Tarik Skubal return to the mound on Saturday after spending three days on the paternity list. The Skubal family remains on baby watch as he attempts to get his Tigers a win over Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays. Detroit's ace is usually a highlight machine, but on Saturday, it was battery mate Jake Rogers who amazed fans. Skubal found himself in a bit of a jam in the fourth inning. Toronto had runners on second and third with one out. Tyler Heineman went to put down a bunt, but held it back. Rogers immediately sprang up and threw down to Zach McKinstry at third. The throw went over Heineman, but McKinstry was able to tag out Guerrero at the hot corner. The Tigers were able to get out of the fourth inning without allowing a run. Detroit and Toronto currently remain scoreless, but the Blue Jays threatened with the bases loaded in the sixth. However, Skubal was able to get out of this without allowing a run, as well. Tigers looking to salvage disastrous Blue Jays series Detroit has played like one of the best teams in baseball for most of the 2025 season. However, they are free-falling in a brutal way. The Tigers have lost 11 of their last 12 games. Detroit's lone win in this span is a 2-1 win over the Texas Rangers on July 20. Skubal started that contest, going 6.2 innings and striking out 11. This series against the Blue Jays has especially been rough. Detroit has recorded the first run in each of the first two games. However, Toronto dominated the rest of the way. The Blue Jays won the first two games by scores of 11-1 and 6-2, respectively. The Tigers need to get back in the win column in the worst way possible. They have a comfortable division lead still. And they should add pieces to upgrade their roster at the trade deadline. Still, Saturday night's game feels like a must-win for this Tigers team.
