First Lady Liza-Araneta Marcos graced the initial applicant screening of The Grant 2025 held at the Salcedo Auctions in Makati City on Monday.
The First Lady was also joined by several members of the diplomatic corps, including Brunei Ambassador Megawati binti Dato Paduka Haji Manan, German Ambassador Andreas Pfaffernoschke, Hungarian Ambassador Titanilla Toth, Israeli Ambassador Ilan Fluss, Malaysian Ambassador Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino, and Panama Ambassador Eduardo Antonio Young Virzi.
The screening featured 48 aspiring designers vying for a spot in The Grant 2025 program, an initiative by Fashion Aid Philippines that aims to support and elevate emerging Filipino talent in fashion, accessories, and lifestyle design.
Among the applicants was Lelet, a member of the Higaonon Indigenous Peoples from Impasug-ong, Bukidnon. She showcased the Hinasol, a traditional handwoven fabric considered a cultural treasure of the Higaonon community.
'Ako po ay nais sumali dito para maipakita ang aking kakayahan bilang isang designer,' she said.
'Ang Hinasol ay napakahalaga po sa aming mga katutubong Higaonon dahil dito kami kumukuha ng lakas at nakabigay ito ng hanap buhay sa amin,' she added.
Lelet hopes to use this opportunity to continue her design journey while empowering her community through cultural preservation and sustainable livelihood.
Following the initial screening, 20 selected applicants will be announced in the coming days, who will then undergo an intensive mentoring and product development phase from June to August.
Final winners will be revealed in September 2025.
The three winners of The Grant 2025 (one each for fashion, accessories, and lifestyle) will receive scholarships to top international design schools, support in product development, and a chance to showcase their creations globally.
The Grant 2025 is a nationwide competition dedicated to discovering and nurturing the next generation of Filipino creatives to bring local artistry to the global spotlight.

Marcos launches P20 per kilo of rice in Bacoor, Cavite

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. and Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. watch as vendors at the Kadiwa ng Pangulo sell rice at P20 per kilo in Bacoor, Cavite on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. MPC Pool President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Wednesday led the launch of the P20 per kilo of rice in Bacoor, Cavite. Marcos witnessed the selling of rice with Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. at the Zapote Public Market. Those who can avail of the P20 per kilo of rice are those from the vulnerable sector, including beneficiaries of the 4Ps, senior citizens, persons with disability, and solo parents. Each buyer can avail of five to 10 kilos of rice. The President earlier explained why it took time for him to fulfill his campaign promise of P20 per kilo of rice, noting that the government needs to provide assistance first to the local farmers, including the provision of machinery. The Department of Agriculture (DA) initially implemented the sale of rice at P20 per kilo in the Visayas region. According to the DA, Marcos wants it to be implemented across the country in the long run. The second phase, which will commence this month, will be in the Mindanao region. The rice sold in Kadiwa centers is subsidized by the government through the Food Terminal Inc. The DA is aiming to sustain the program until the end of Marcos' term in June 2028, potentially covering up to 15 million households, or approximately 60 million Filipinos. —KG, GMA Integrated News

Pero I think, you know, lahat ng kababaihan, mero'n sila dapat—'yung mga gustong maging beauty queen, ipagpatuloy nila 'yon. 'Di ba? If this is the chance for them, go for your dreams. Ito 'yung part na puwede na,' Patricia said. Sugar, for her part, shared that she would accept it if it is God's will for her to join. 'Ako, kung ano po 'yung ibigay sa 'kin ni Lord kasi kahit naman ito, kahit sa panaginip, hindi ko siya—imposible siyang maganap sa buhay ko pero nangyayari. So if ibibigay ng panahon 'yon sa akin, tatanggapin ko nang buong puso,' Sugar said. Patricia has won victorious in three beauty pageants: Mrs. Universe Philippines Finest Woman 2019, Noble Queen of the Universe 2019, and Aqua Queen of the Universe 2022.
