Tourist injured after banana boat accident in Mallorca
The 19-year-old Bulgarian woman was found lying face down in the water at Magaluf beach by lifeguards following a trip out on the marine ride, the Majorca Daily Bulletin reports.
The boats – where people sit on a banana-shaped inflatable as they are towed into the sea – are available at many beachside resorts across the island.
The accident occurred at around 7.30pm on Monday evening, the newspaper said. The company that was running the water activity contacted local lifeguards after the accident.
After finding the woman, emergency services brought her aboard a support boat to provide immediate care.
She was reportedly suffering from intense neck pain, appeared disoriented and had swallowed a large amount of water.
The team stabilised her using a spinal board before carrying her ashore. The woman was transported to Clínica Rotger hospital nearby for further medical examination.
Magaluf beach is popular with tourists for its large hotel resorts and vibrant nightlife.
A similar incident occurred in Magaluf in 2022, after another young woman suffered a severe blow to her lower back after falling from a banana boat.

A similar incident hit the headlines back in 2018, after a British mother died after being thrown off a banana boat at an Egyptian resort.
The inflatable had flipped, but when the woman was pulled aboard the speed boat and CPR was performed, she could not be saved.
Thomas Cook confirmed at the time that it was one of their customers who died while on the excursion and offered support to the woman's family.
The Independent has contacted the Calvia Tourism Board in Mallorca for comment.

The Kaslo Search and Rescue (SAR) confirmed they had been called to the scene of the crash at around 7:30 p.m. local time on that day, the outlet reported. Mark Jennings-Bates, a manager with Kaslo SAR, recalled, "So it was on a forestry road, somewhere in the mountains, and quite a long ways north in the valley up towards ... the village of Trout Lake [in the West Kootenay region of southeastern B.C.]," the CBC noted. "Our teams were able to get to them efficiently. It's a long journey, but they got there efficiently," he added. "So that was very, very helpful." "And of course that means that the helicopter pilot could also fly straight to the destination with confidence that he was going to find them," Jennings-Bates continued, according to the outlet. The Kaslo SAR manager said that one of the victims had no vital signs when the team arrived on the scene, while the other was taken to the hospital, where they later died, the CBC reported. He stated he didn't know the reason why they crashed, but suspected a loss of control on rough terrain may have been a factor. He added that he didn't know if the couple, from Nanaimo, B.C., were filming at the time of the tragedy, per the outlet. Tourout's mom, Colleen, was among the many paying tribute to the couple on social media. She wrote on Facebook, alongside a photograph of the pair posing in front of snow-covered mountains, "With unimaginable heartache, the families of Matthew Peter Yeomans and Stacey Tourout would like to advise that we lost them both tragically succumbing to injuries in an offroad accident on Aug 7, 2025 in the beautiful mountains of British Columbia that they loved so much." "Please keep us and them in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this devastating end to an amazing Love Story. They are together forever as we knew they would always be," she added. According to Yeomans' Facebook page, the couple got engaged in April 2024, with him sharing a sweet video of the moment he popped the question on his profile. As well as having a big following on YouTube, Tourout and Yeomans also have almost 74,000 followers on Instagram. A description on their YouTube page reads, "Matthew and Stacey built the worlds first Land Cruiser Chinook in 100 days," which they documented online. The description adds, "Now set off on their journey to drive the Pan American and beyond - this is their story about the adventure, the personal growth, and choosing to LIVE life and create a legacy community of people who are seekers of the unknown." "We are documenting our build, the trip plan, and hope to leave you with wisdom and inspiration for why we travel and how you can find fulfillment doing the same - in your own way," the message states.
