Storm chances increase with potential severe weather this week
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – A few storms linger this evening as a line of stronger weather pushes in from Texas. This line of storms looks to arrive in Acadiana by 10 p.m. but should come to and end by midnight. Afterwards, quiet weather settles in as temperatures drop into the 70s.
Monday starts out dry, but a stalled front will lead to widespread storm chances in the afternoon hours. These storms could produce strong winds, hail, and flooding as they slowly move from west to east across the area, coming to an end in the evening hours. Highs Monday afternoon reach near 90.
The tropics remain quiet and look to stay that way through the next 7 days
Locally, this week will see wet conditions with rounds of showers and thunderstorms as the front stalls along the coast. Each day, a low-end severe threat will exist for the area along with potential flooding. By next weekend, we will see somewhat drier conditions with daily summertime pop-up storms.

WAVY meteorologist Don Slater breaks down how it all played out: As expected, an active low pressure system (a mini-cyclone) moved eastward from halfway across the U.S. to get us this morning. We had numerous severe thunderstorm warnings from 5:47am to 9:45am, but damage appears to be limited to trees and power lines down. That damage was mostly in Southampton County, VA. Though we did see tree and power line damage in southern Chesapeake. After some quiet time in the late morning and early afternoon, it was also expected that we could see some severe weather in the afternoon. And though the thunderstorms were more widely scattered, we did get some damage to trees in James City County. As of 9:00 pm, more thunderstorms are approaching from the west…especially for areas from the Peninsula and northward. NWS confirms two tornadoes from Saturdays storm
HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — The National Weather Service has confirmed two tornadoes hit the Tri-State during a storm on Saturday. A release from the National Weather Service says the tornadoes touched down in Owensboro Kentucky and in Hatfield Indiana. The Owensboro tornado was rated an EF-0 with peak winds of 85 miles per hour. Officials say the tornado developed along Highway 431 and damaged a billboard. Several stores were also damaged. The tornado traveled 2.14 miles. The Tornado in Hatfield was rated an EF-0 with peak winds of 65 miles per hour. Officials say the tornado made brief contact with the ground and traveled 0.59 miles.
