Joseph Neibich: The Renaissance Man of Comedy, Film, and Storytelling
On March 28 and 29, fans can catch Neibich live at Laffs Comedy Caffé, where he'll be performing alongside headliner Pauly Casillas. As a house emcee at Laffs, Neibich is no stranger to the stage — he's also held similar roles at Laugh Factory and Stand Up Scottsdale, where he's fine-tuned his comedic craft.
A Gilbert native, Neibich's academic path took him from the University of Arizona to Sewanee: The University of the South, where he studied political theory and prelaw. But it was the pull of performance — not politics — that ultimately won him over. He entered the world of stand-up in 2000 and never looked back, performing everywhere from clubs and colleges to cruise ships and corporate events.
Early in his journey, Neibich worked the door at the iconic Comedy Store in Hollywood, a proving ground for legends like Jay Leno, David Letterman, and Richard Pryor. 'Every single one of us would have paid for the job,' he recalls. Being surrounded by comedy giants like Joe Rogan and Chelsea Handler inspired him to commit fully to the craft.
His early material was drawn from his time bartending at the Beverly Hills Hotel, where he rubbed elbows with A-listers like Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez, Bono, and Michael Jordan. His brushes with fame now form the core of his storytelling-rich sets. 'I talk about it for a good 10 minutes… the antics of the rich and famous and being a young bartender trying to make it in Hollywood,' he says.
Today, Neibich's comedy includes reflections on aging, changing priorities, and life after late-night parties — 'I used to love to party. Now I love coffee shops,' he jokes.
His passion for storytelling began early, watching The Tonight Show with his father and dreaming of being like Johnny Carson. But growing up in Gilbert, Arizona, he didn't see a clear path to that dream. 'You work for the city, maybe go into politics,' he said of the environment he grew up in. Still, a trip to New York City and some college theater changed everything — and he knew he belonged in the arts.
Neibich's talents extend beyond stand-up. In 2025, he wrote and starred in 'Feeling Blessed', a short film that was submitted to HollyShorts and the Rhode Island International Film Festival, both Oscar-qualifying events. He also created 'Lights Off', which will screen at the Arizona International Film Festival on April 8.
Beyond his own work, he uplifts others through his Faith in Film International Film Festival, happening May 17 at The Screening Room. It's a platform for faith-based films and emerging talent. 'Hopefully, it helps them get noticed, and they make bigger and better movies,' he says.
Neibich's Hollywood journey began with a small but meaningful role in Jerry Maguire , which bolstered his confidence and launched a flurry of calls to agents. After moving to Los Angeles in 1997, he joined the marketing team at Paramount Pictures and later worked at Landmark Entertainment, collaborating with legends like James Cameron and Michael Jackson.
Whether working behind the scenes in production or captivating crowds on stage, Neibich remains committed to the art of storytelling. 'I can't imagine spending my 20s and early 30s doing anything else,' he says.

Over 30 years after its debut, this classic film is dominating streaming
For one of the most celebrated movies of all time, another redemption arc is on the horizon. Released in 1994 to modest box office numbers, "The Shawshank Redemption" has since become a resounding success, landing a top spot on cinema rankings from IMDb to Rolling Stone. Now, it's making its way up the streaming charts as well. Back on Peacock for audiences' home-viewing pleasure, the movie, which follows one prisoner's odyssey through a cruel system, broke into the platform's top 10 most-watched titles this week. Based on a Stephen King novella, "Shawshank" tells the story of Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), who was convicted of killing his wife and her lover and sentenced to life in prison despite a plea of not guilty. While in prison, Dufresne befriends fellow inmate Ellis "Red" Redding (Morgan Freeman), known for helping to smuggle contraband into the penitentiary. That's just 'Psycho': These 10 classic movies never won an Oscar The movie, which spans 19 years, nabbed seven Academy Award nominations and was a critical darling, but failed to capture popular appeal at the time of its release. Audiences of the now-beloved movie seem keen to dip into the drama, with a renewed interest in Dufresne's epic and complicated story. It's a career-defining performance from Freeman as well, so fans may want to soak up the acting legend's talent before he signs off the big screen for good. In an interview earlier this year with USA TODAY, Freeman hinted at a possible impending retirement, saying: "I imagine … I might be at the point where I say, 'OK, y'all, I quit.'" How to watch 'The Shawshank Redemption' The movie is available now to stream for free with a Peacock membership and for rent on Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime Video.

Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem light up the stage with Bad Bunny in Puerto Rico
Fifteen years in, Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem are keeping things fresh. The Oscar-winning couple shared a fun moment this week as they joined Bad Bunny on stage during the rapper and singer's concert residency in Puerto Rico. "Gracias Benitoooooooo💕Impresionante!!" Cruz, 51, wrote on Instagram Tuesday, Aug. 12, translating to, "Thank you Benito, impressive!" In the Instagram video, Cruz wears a black lacy top as she captures herself singing and dancing with Bardem, 56, close behind before she pans to Bad Bunny sitting and rapping on stage. She then pans back to a surprised Bardem wearing a black baseball cap. In fan videos, Cruz can also be seen introducing a track and shouting to the crowd: "Acho, PR es otra cosa!" translating to, "Hey, PR is something else!" A post shared by Penélope Cruz (@penelopecruzoficial) Cruz and Bardem married in 2010 and have two children: Leo, 14, and Luna, 12. Bad Bunny, the Latin superstar born Benito Ocasio, kicked off his No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí (I Don't Want to Leave Here) residency July 11 at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico, the island's largest indoor arena. The first nine dates were reserved for local residents only, as Bad Bunny, 31, wanted to pay tribute to his homeland. He'll continue his performances every weekend through Sept. 14 for shows that are already boosting tourism in Puerto Rico. At another show, the Grammy-winning reggaeton superstar invited actor Austin Butler to join him on stage, as seen in viral fan footage shared on social media. Austin Butler recalls trippy Bad Bunny concert after taking edible: 'My brain is in two movies' Butler explained to "Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon that his concert euphoria wasn't just a musical high. "Somebody gave me an edible right before the show, and I thought that was a good idea at the time," Butler said. "It's like my brain is in two movies." Bad Bunny's concerts are in support of his chart-topping sixth studio album, "Debí Tirar Más Fotos," which reflects the musical styles he grew up with and lyrically tackles the cultural identity and the socio-political challenges of the island. The album's all-stadium world tour kicks off Nov. 21 in Santo Domingo and ends July 22 in Brussels, Belgium. The tour does not currently have any dates in the continental United States. ‘Cooking, Cleaning, & Mothering': Halle Berry Celebrates 59th Birthday With The Classiest Clapback
Source: David Becker / Getty Halle Berry turned 59 today, but gave us a gift. The timeless beauty reminded everyone that grown women are not to be played with. And that we have no problem dropping a soft read when necessary. On August 14, Halle dropped a birthday carousel filled with celebration, sunshine, and subtle smoke. Pictures included close-ups on a boat with her skin glowing; a playful shot of her lying back, toes pinching the stem of a wine glass; a cozy bed pic with her boyfriend Van Hunt; that sleek, sculpted swimsuit silhouette; a snapshot of an envelope addressed 'mom'; a chocolate cake; and a flirty close-up with a flower. While we love getting a peek into Halle's special day, it was her caption that had us talking. 'Phew…! cooking, cleaning, and mothering,' she wrote. The lovely Leo's post comes days after ex-husband David Justice told the All the Smoke podcast he once saw 'wife' through a narrow, traditional lens – 'cook, clean… motherly.' David claimed that Halle didn't fit his idea back then. We care about your data. See our privacy policy. David's clip saying that Halle wasn't his version of the 'classic wife' went viral. Though it was just a snippet of his full All The Smoke interview, it was enough for blog commentary, memes, and trolling. Halle has been silent regarding the comments until now – and though she didn't directly call out David, the message is clear. Halle let her pictures do the talking: a card for 'Mom' from her kids, island hair and body-ody, joy with her man, and a life that's full. If you've followed Halle in recent years, you know this is her rhythm. She's been open about loving Van without needing the world's permission (proposal or not, timeline or not), present for her children, and booked when she wants to be. Halle is an Oscar winner, fashion icon, mother, entrepreneur, and everything in between. She is that girl – a timeless beauty and cultural treasure who still turns a swimsuit into a headline, a red carpet dress into a moment, and a caption into a conversation. No wonder she refuses to shrink to anyone's throwback checklist. Happy Birthday, Halle!
