ECI trains nearly 350 BLOs from four states
New Delhi [India], May 26 (ANI): The seventh batch of training for Booth Level Officers (BLO) Supervisors began at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management here on Monday.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar addressed the participants of the training programme including BLOs, BLO Supervisors, Electoral Registration Officers from Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.
A total of 353 grassroots election officials (101 from Uttar Pradesh; 82 from Uttarakhand; 83 from Rajasthan and 84 from Himachal Pradesh) are taking part in the training programme, according to a release.
With this, over 3,350 field officials have been trained in the last two months by ECI in New Delhi.
In his inaugural address, Gyanesh Kumar said that these training programmes are essential to ensure that elections are conducted strictly in accordance with the Representation of People Act 1950, Registration of Electors Rules 1960, Conduct of Election Rules, 1961 and the instructions issued by the ECI from time to time.
He also underlined that the participants, through the training, will familiarise themselves with the provisions of first and second appeals against the final electoral rolls.
It may be recalled that no appeals were filed from Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh after the completion of the Special Summary Revision (SSR) exercise as of January 6 to 10, 2025.
The training is designed to enhance participants' practical understanding especially in the areas of voter registration, Form handling, and field-level implementation of electoral procedures. Participants will also receive practical training on the IT tools. The officials will also be provided technical demonstrations and training of EVMs and VVPATs, including mock polls, the release said. (ANI)

Punjab: Police arrest Tarn Taran man for sharing sensitive information with Pakistan's ISI
Tarn Taran (Punjab) [India], June 3 (ANI): The Punjab Police, based on information received from Counter-Intelligence-Punjab, has arrested a man identified as Gagandeep Singh alias Gagan, a resident of Mohalla Rodupur, Gali Nazar Singh Wali, Tarn Taran, for allegedly sharing sensitive information with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Pakistan-based Khalistani supporter Gopal Singh Chawla. In a post on X, DGP Punjab Police shared information stating that the arrested accused had been in touch with the ISI and Gopal Singh Chawla, sharing classified details concerning army movements during Operation Sindhoor. Investigations have revealed that he was engaged in sharing troop deployments and strategic locations, posing a threat to national security. Preliminary investigations indicate that Gagandeep Singh had been in contact with Gopal Singh Chawla for the past five years, through whom he was introduced to Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs). He also received payments from PIOs via Indian channels. During the investigation, a mobile phone containing intelligence shared with the PIOs, as well as details of over 20 ISI contacts, was recovered. An FIR has been registered under the Official Secrets Act at PS City, Tarn Taran, and further investigation is in progress. On May 7, India launched Operation Sindoor as a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists in which 26 people were killed. Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the death of over 100 terrorists affiliated with terror outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. After India's strike on terror infrastructure, Pakistan responded with cross-border shelling across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and the International Border, as well as attempted drone attacks targeting civilian areas along the border regions. In response, India neutralised Pakistani air defence apparatus, radar infrastructure, and communication centres, and inflicted heavy damage across 11 airbases in Pakistan. Delhi Police submits report to MHA after foreign embassy worker puts up 'wanted' posters of Israeli PM
New Delhi [India], June 3 (ANI): The Delhi Police submitted a detailed report to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) regarding an incident where a foreign national working with an Embassy put up 'Wanted' posters of the Isareli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the Chanakyapuri area of the national capital. The posters were spotted by the police 10 to 12 days ago. However, no punitive action has been taken against the individual since he enjoyed a diplomatic passport. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police apprehended two wanted criminals involved in serious crimes in two separate encounters in South East Delhi late Monday night. According to an official, the first encounter took place in Jaitpur, where police arrested Asif, who was accused of attacking Delhi Police Head Constable Karan Mavi on May 27.T The second shootout occurred around 4:30 am in the Kalindi Kunj area, where another accused, Rajpal, was injured during an exchange of fire. The accused were injured during the encounters and were immediately sent to the hospital for treatment. The Jaitpur encounter involved Asif, who had attacked HC Karan Mavi in Jaitpur just a few days ago. He was tracked down and caught during a late-night operation by the police. In a separate operation, the second encounter took place in Kalindi Kunj, where Rajpal, accused of kidnapping and murdering a girl on May 30, was nabbed by the police. During the shootout, bullets struck the bulletproof jacket of SI Shubham from the Special Staff team.A case has been registered under the relevant section of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Meanwhile, on Sunday, Delhi police arrested three armed robbers after a brief exchange of fire in Delhi's Usmanpur area, in which two of them were injured during the shootout. The accused, identified as Sameer (21) and Tarun (23), both residents of Shahdara, and Kunal Sharma (23), a resident of Pandav Nagar, Meerut, opened fire on the police team using illegal firearms. The police retaliated, injuring all three suspects during the exchange. According to the official, a police team from PS New Usmanpur was on patrol duty when it received a tip-off regarding the presence of individuals involved in recent robberies who were allegedly planning another crime near 5th Pusta. Upon seeing the police, the suspects attempted to flee into the nearby jungle. When the police team instructed them to stop for a check, the suspects opened fire in an attempt to escape. During the exchange of fire, two suspects sustained bullet injuries to their legs. The injured suspects were taken to JPC Hospital for medical treatment. Crime and forensic teams inspected the spot. During sustained interrogation, all three accused confessed to their involvement in the present and other criminal cases. (ANI)

"If IMF funds help Pak support terror, it is unfortunate," All-Party Delegation leader Tharoor says
Brasilia [Brazil], June 3 (ANI): All-Party Delegation leader and Congresss MP Shashi Tharoor, speaking on the IMF bailout package to Pakistan, said that India does not have any issues if the IMF issues funds for a country that uses it for development purposes. Tharoor, however expressed his displeasure at the International Monetary Fund for enabling Pakistan thus as they divert those funds to arm themselves to attack India. 'We don't begrudge any country its development if the money is to be spent truly on getting people out of poverty or helping deal with development issues. Why would we object? We are humane. We believe in all sorts of well-being of the poorest of the poor in any country. But if that money simply enables Pakistan to divert more resources to supporting terrorism, to arming themselves to attack us, and so on, then it would be most unfortunate. And I hope that the World Bank and the IMF, both of which are bodies in which India does have some influence, I hope they will both be told by our diplomats there that it is extremely important to have complete safeguards to ensure that this money is only spent the way it's supposed to be spent,' he said. Earlier on May 10, The International Monetary Fund approved the first review of Pakistan's economic reform program under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF), enabling a disbursement of approximately USD 1 billion. India, however, firmly opposed providing funds to a country that continues to sponsor cross-border terrorism, warning that such support carries reputational risks for global institutions and undermines international norms. In a post on X, the IMF said, 'IMF Board approved the first review of Pakistan's economic reform program under the EFF, enabling a disbursement of ~ $1 billion, reflecting strong program implementation which has contributed to continuing economic recovery.' Later on May 23, India said it is 'thankful' for the 11 additional conditions imposed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Pakistan, while clarifying that it is not opposed to financial assistance meant for genuine developmental purposes. At the same time, it raised serious concerns over the timing of the recent bailout package, suggesting that the funds may have indirectly supported Pakistan's rising defence spending. 'We are thankful for the additional 11 conditions imposed by the IMF on Pakistan. However, we are not against any financial assistance provided for genuine developmental agendas. We have raised questions regarding the timing of the recent bailout package given to Pakistan by the IMF,' government sources said. 'All these arms and ammunition are then used by Pakistan against India,' the sources added, citing IMF data. (ANI)
