Property acquisition proposals of ₹760 crore pending before the government

The Hindu19-05-2025

Property acquisition is proving to be a major roadblock for several development projects lined up before the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), including the much publicised Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) project.
According to highly placed sources, land acquisition awards to the tune of ₹760 crore have been pending due to paucity of funds. The awards have been sent to the State government for sanction, but no funding has been provided so far. The State government has given an administrative sanction for ₹5,942 crore for the H-CITI project, which involves construction of road infrastructure as a solution for traffic congestion at major junctions in the city. Major portion of the funding, to the tune of ₹1,100 crore is earmarked for alleviation of traffic chaos at six junctions around the Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park in Banjara Hills.
Several other road widening works and nala development works too are stalled for lack of right of way, which can only be obtained through land acquisition. As per official sources, close to 300 properties have been identified for full or partial acquisition to see the H-CITI project through. Of these, about 190 properties are located between Road No. 12 junction and Jubilee Hills checkpost junction, where the property prices are among the highest in the city, and could prove to be a drain on the exchequer.
The GHMC authorities are attempting a mix of monetary compensation and transferable development rights for acquisition of these properties.

'Endless H-1B stamping cycles': Reddit user wants to move to India after 15 years

A Reddit user who spent 15 years in the US shared the pitfalls of being an H-1B visa holder. While US tech workers are raging against H-1B visa holders for stealing their jobs, a Reddit post of a H-1B visa holder has grabbed the attention as the person sought advice on moving back to India -- after 15 years. The person came to the US as a student and then started working but now after 15 years, the user feels tired of restrictions. The restrictions that come being an H-1B visa holder. "Can't go anywhere, can't start my business," the Reddit post read. "The title and I want to work as a Product Manager. Do you think there will be problem in getting jobs in India? Backstory- I 37F, came to the US as a student in 2010, right after engineering. Started working in 2012 and ever since then I have been employed as a technology consultant. Now I am tired of the restrictions. Endless H1B stamping cycles. Can't go anywhere, can't start my own businesses. I want to explore what India can offer but I also want to work as a Product Manger. Will there be problem in finding jobs and starting my own small business?" the post said. A Reddit user expressed desire to move back to India after spending 15 years in the US. The comment section was mostly welcoming as people shared their experience of moving back to India almost for the same reason. "I came back a few months ago after 10 years, for similar reasons as yours. Trying to start my own business. I miss many things about US and dislike many things about here, but being able to explore business ideas of my own, and not having to worry about the visa bs far outweighs the negatives. So far anyways," one wrote. "My dad's friend did this and he is incredibly happy with his decision. He not only does well but every so often will pick up contract jobs that helps build investment money for his true passion," another reply said. H-1B has become a contentious issue with MAGA activists wanting the Donald Trump administration to completely shut the program in favor of American workers. The administration has taken crucial steps to arrest the inflow of international students but has not made a stand on H-1B. This visa program majoly contributes to the Silicon Valley as tech companies hire from foreign countries to save money.

'H1-B scam decoded': X post slams Costco for their bias for foreign labor

A job posting for Costco, the retail chain, has gone viral as social media users pointed that US companies are now not even hiding that they want H-1Bs over Americans, as that is cheaper for them. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "If hired, you will be required to provide proof of authorization to work in the United States. In some cases, applicants and employees for selected positions will not be sponsored for work authorization, including, but not limited to H1-B visas," the job posting said. A social media user decoded the post and said it clearly wants foreign workers who already have work authorization like a green card which allows the company to avoid visa sponsorship costs. But the company is pretending that Americans can also apply, conforming to the corporate America's playbook that they posted jobs publicly, rejected Americans by offering 30 per cent below market rate to import cheap labor. The post comes as US tech workers are crying foul over job losses that they claim are going to Indians and Chinese. The H-1B visa program allows US companies to hire foreign labor at a cheaper price. President Donald Trump earlier said he was not against the H-1B visa program as many H-1Bs work at Mar-a-Lago. But MAGA activists have been pushing the administration to stop importing foreign labors while the administration is already cracking down on foreign students, illegal immigrants. The USCIS revealed that 120, 141 H-1B visa applications have been selected for 2026. This is the lowest number since 2021 but MAGA supporters are campaigning for H-1B to be completely removed. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "Another greedy company @Costco want Amercian Money and profits but do not want Americans to work for them in corporate. They want slave wages and those who will break all morality clauses and guidelines for the master of their money and employment in America," one wrote, replying to the Costco post.
