Officials appeal for eco-friendly Gauri–Ganesha festivities
Officials warned that immersing such idols in lakes, wells, and other water bodies leads to contamination, alters the physical and chemical quality of water, and poses risks to aquatic life, birds, and public health.
Citing High Court orders and a Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) notification, authorities said immersing PoP or painted idols in any natural water source is banned. PoP idol makers and sellers without valid trade licences will face legal action.
The administration has encouraged the use of clay or natural-material idols painted with eco-friendly colours. After worship, these should be immersed only at designated locations. Biodegradable waste like flowers, fruits, banana stems, and mango leaves must be separated and disposed of separately.
Local bodies will inspect and seize PoP and painted idols, and permissions for public pandals will require compliance with eco-friendly guidelines, including restrictions on plastic decorations and loudspeakers between 10 pm and 6 am.
The KSPCB has appealed to the public to celebrate this year's festival in an environmentally responsible manner to safeguard the district's water bodies and biodiversity.

Why Is HYBE Under The Radar? Bang Si-hyuk, founder and chairman of Hybe – the South Korean entertainment company which handles BTS, has been accused of indulging in fraudulent activities. As reported by allkpop, Bang has been accused of engaging in fraudulent and unfair trading under the Capital Markets Act. The financial watchdog is investigating Bang over allegations that he misled investors by denying any plans for an IPO. With this, he encouraged them to sell their HYBE shares to a private equity fund (PEF) linked to him. This was around the time when HYBE was secretly preparing to go public. Therefore, when the company eventually did file for an IPO, Bang reportedly benefited through a 30% return-sharing deal with the PEF, a transaction not disclosed during the IPO process. This means that if found guilty and the gains exceed 5 billion KRW (approximately $3.64 million), Bang could face life imprisonment or a minimum of five years in prison. In Gurgaon, 35-year-old bludgeoned to death by drunk friend
Gurgaon: A man was bludgeoned to death with a stone by his friend inside an under-construction flat of society. The victim, according to the police, had an argument with the suspect after drinking in Pataudi. The victim, a labourer, was a UP native, the police said. The deceased, Pappu Kumar (35) of Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, worked as a POP worker. According to police, the victim was at the site with the accused, Umesh, and another labourer, Rajesh. Bomb threat targets U.S. Embassy in Seoul during South Korean Liberation Day celebrations
On Korea's Liberation Day, August 15, the US Embassy in Seoul notified the Seoul Metropolitan Police of a possible bomb threat. Authorities urge caution While no immediate danger has been detected, police continue to investigate the series of hoax threats and their possible connections. Officials are urging citizens to remain alert, especially during public events or national holidays, and are closely monitoring high-traffic venues for safety. The repeated misuse of a single alias underscores the growing challenge of online-fueled hoaxes and false alarms.
