Officials appeal for eco-friendly Gauri–Ganesha festivities
Officials warned that immersing such idols in lakes, wells, and other water bodies leads to contamination, alters the physical and chemical quality of water, and poses risks to aquatic life, birds, and public health.
Citing High Court orders and a Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) notification, authorities said immersing PoP or painted idols in any natural water source is banned. PoP idol makers and sellers without valid trade licences will face legal action.
The administration has encouraged the use of clay or natural-material idols painted with eco-friendly colours. After worship, these should be immersed only at designated locations. Biodegradable waste like flowers, fruits, banana stems, and mango leaves must be separated and disposed of separately.
Local bodies will inspect and seize PoP and painted idols, and permissions for public pandals will require compliance with eco-friendly guidelines, including restrictions on plastic decorations and loudspeakers between 10 pm and 6 am.
The KSPCB has appealed to the public to celebrate this year's festival in an environmentally responsible manner to safeguard the district's water bodies and biodiversity.

HYBE Founder Returns To South Korea Amid Fraud Case: 'Plans To Cooperate With Police'
This comes days after Bang also wrote an email to the employees of his company and assured them that he would fully cooperate with the investigators. HYBE's founder and chairman, Bang Si-hyuk, has returned to Seoul amid the ongoing investigation involving alleged stock manipulation by him. Recently, South Korea's media publications reported that the founder of the agency, which handles BTS, returned to the country on August 11 and is now planning to cooperate with the police investigation. Later, HYBE also confirmed to a local publication that Bang returned to Korea and that they 'plan to cooperate with the police investigation as much as possible and will faithfully undergo the investigation." This comes days after Bang also wrote an email to the employees of his company and assured them that he would fully cooperate with the investigators. 'Over the last year, much has been said and written about me in the press. Increasingly, I believe these events are causing confusion and concern for you, as well as our artists, fans, and partners," the email read, as reported by Forbes. 'I will return to Korea to fully and transparently work with investigators and put these allegations to rest," Bang, who is currently in the U.S, wrote. 'In particular, I feel a deep sense of regret knowing that our members and artists, who should be focused solely on their creative and professional goals, might be suffering because of this situation … I understand how my absence may have contributed to confusion and frustration," it added. Why Is HYBE Under The Radar? Bang Si-hyuk, founder and chairman of Hybe – the South Korean entertainment company which handles BTS, has been accused of indulging in fraudulent activities. As reported by allkpop, Bang has been accused of engaging in fraudulent and unfair trading under the Capital Markets Act. The financial watchdog is investigating Bang over allegations that he misled investors by denying any plans for an IPO. With this, he encouraged them to sell their HYBE shares to a private equity fund (PEF) linked to him. This was around the time when HYBE was secretly preparing to go public. Therefore, when the company eventually did file for an IPO, Bang reportedly benefited through a 30% return-sharing deal with the PEF, a transaction not disclosed during the IPO process. This means that if found guilty and the gains exceed 5 billion KRW (approximately $3.64 million), Bang could face life imprisonment or a minimum of five years in prison. For the unversed, HYBE manages some of the biggest names in K-pop, including BTS, Tomorrow X Together, LE SSERAFIM, NewJeans, BOYNEXTDOOR, and KATSEYE. Bomb threat targets U.S. Embassy in Seoul during South Korean Liberation Day celebrations
On Korea's Liberation Day, August 15, the US Embassy in Seoul notified the Seoul Metropolitan Police of a possible bomb threat. Authorities confirmed that the Embassy received an email about 5 a.m. KST alleging that "a highly-explosive bomb has been installed in a public facility frequented by numerous visitors." The alert spurred immediate cooperation between the Embassy and local law enforcement to analyze the situation and protect the public. Police investigations indicate that the email was sent under the name of Japanese lawyer Takahiro Karasawa. This name has appeared repeatedly in recent fake bomb threats across South Korea. Reports suggest that in 2023, members of an online political community exploited the name, associating it with a fictitious cult leader and issuing hoax terror threats to public institutions. A spokesperson for the Seoul police said according to AllKpop, "We are examining this case in connection with previous threats that used the same name and similar phrasing." So far, no explosives have been found in any of the targeted public facilities. Recent string of threats The August 15 incident follows a series of similar warnings in recent weeks. Over the past weekend, the KSPO Dome in Seoul received a bomb threat just hours before K-pop group The Boyz were scheduled to perform the final show of their 'The Blaze' world tour. Around 2,000 concertgoers were evacuated, but no explosive devices were discovered. The Boyz concert was reportedly delayed due to a bomb threat. Earlier in August, authorities received alerts at the Seoul Foreign Resident Center on August 7 and at Gwangju's Shinsegye Department Store on August 11. Both incidents were also confirmed as false alarms, with no explosives found. Authorities urge caution While no immediate danger has been detected, police continue to investigate the series of hoax threats and their possible connections. Officials are urging citizens to remain alert, especially during public events or national holidays, and are closely monitoring high-traffic venues for safety. The repeated misuse of a single alias underscores the growing challenge of online-fueled hoaxes and false alarms. Law enforcement continues to work to identify those responsible while keeping the public informed and safe. To stay updated on the stories that are going viral, follow Indiatimes Trending.
