HYBE Founder Returns To South Korea Amid Fraud Case: 'Plans To Cooperate With Police'
HYBE's founder and chairman, Bang Si-hyuk, has returned to Seoul amid the ongoing investigation involving alleged stock manipulation by him. Recently, South Korea's media publications reported that the founder of the agency, which handles BTS, returned to the country on August 11 and is now planning to cooperate with the police investigation.
Later, HYBE also confirmed to a local publication that Bang returned to Korea and that they 'plan to cooperate with the police investigation as much as possible and will faithfully undergo the investigation."
This comes days after Bang also wrote an email to the employees of his company and assured them that he would fully cooperate with the investigators. 'Over the last year, much has been said and written about me in the press. Increasingly, I believe these events are causing confusion and concern for you, as well as our artists, fans, and partners," the email read, as reported by Forbes.
'I will return to Korea to fully and transparently work with investigators and put these allegations to rest," Bang, who is currently in the U.S, wrote. 'In particular, I feel a deep sense of regret knowing that our members and artists, who should be focused solely on their creative and professional goals, might be suffering because of this situation … I understand how my absence may have contributed to confusion and frustration," it added.
Why Is HYBE Under The Radar?
Bang Si-hyuk, founder and chairman of Hybe – the South Korean entertainment company which handles BTS, has been accused of indulging in fraudulent activities. As reported by allkpop, Bang has been accused of engaging in fraudulent and unfair trading under the Capital Markets Act.
The financial watchdog is investigating Bang over allegations that he misled investors by denying any plans for an IPO. With this, he encouraged them to sell their HYBE shares to a private equity fund (PEF) linked to him. This was around the time when HYBE was secretly preparing to go public. Therefore, when the company eventually did file for an IPO, Bang reportedly benefited through a 30% return-sharing deal with the PEF, a transaction not disclosed during the IPO process.
This means that if found guilty and the gains exceed 5 billion KRW (approximately $3.64 million), Bang could face life imprisonment or a minimum of five years in prison.
For the unversed, HYBE manages some of the biggest names in K-pop, including BTS, Tomorrow X Together, LE SSERAFIM, NewJeans, BOYNEXTDOOR, and KATSEYE.

Officials appeal to people of Mandya dist. to celebrate Ganesha festival, Id Milad in peaceful manner
The Mandya district administration has appealed to the people to celebrate the upcoming Ganesha festival and Id Milad in an atmosphere of peace and harmony. Presiding over the meeting held on the premises of Mandya Zilla Panchayat, Deputy Commissioner Kumar said the permission was mandatory for public installation of Ganesha idols. The organisers should apply for permission at the single window counters set up in taluk offices, mentioning the date of installation, duration, date and place of immersion, and the route map for processions. This, he said, would help the authorities make arrangements for police security, installation of CCTV cameras and barricades, power supply, and fire safety. If the locals preferred a common place for immersion, the district administration can facilitate the same by making necessary arrangements more effectively, he said. The organisers should also accord priority to cleanliness and hygiene particularly while arranging community feasts, he said. Even though Plaster of Paris (PoP) Ganesha idols are not manufactured locally, Dr. Kumar advised the public against buying them. Superintendent of Police, Mandya, Mallikarjun Baladandi urged the organisers not to schedule the immersion of Ganesah idols on Id Milad day, which falls on September 5. He suggested that the idols be installed on the day of Ganesha Chaturthi itself and not the following dates. Mr. Baladandi said the organisers should stick to the route map approved by the police for the immersion procession. He said taluk level meetings will be held to issue detailed instructions in this regard, and said strict vigil will be kept on those who indulge in mischief and attempt to incite communal disturbances. While urging the locals to alert the police if they notice any suspicious activities, Mr. Baladandi said the police were also monitoring social media posts and fake news. Stern action will be taken against the offenders, he warned. Chief Executive Officer of Mandya Zilla Panchayat K.R. Nandini urged the people to install small clay idols painted with natural colour, for the immersion of PoP idols in lakes pollutes the waterbody, leading to long-term environmental damage, she said. She said the State Pollution Control Board was also planning to conduct training at taluk level for children to make clay Ganesha idols. As children normally install idols in their neighbourhoods, they should be encouraged to make and worship idols crafted by themselves, she said. Ms. Nandini also suggested that seeds be mixed in the clay so that after immersion, saplings will grow out of them. While a section of the community leaders sought permission for traditional folk performances such as Dollu Kunita, Tamate, and Veeragase at Ganesha venues, another section requested for simplification of conditions for Id Milad procession. Also, the leaders of different communities, who participated in the meeting, assured that no community will cause disturbances. The participants also suggested that the police should announce the date for idol immersion and install more CCTV cameras. Additional Superintendent of Police Thimmaiah was present at the meeting.

POSCO, JSW Steel plan $8-9 bn Odisha plant in high-stakes joint venture
Mumbai/Bangalore: South Korean steelmaker POSCO Holdings and JSW Steel Ltd intend to spend ₹70,000-80,000 crore ($8-9 billion) to set up a 6 million tonne per annum steel plant possibly in Odisha, two executives said. A 900-acre land that JSW Steel purchased in Odisha during the April-June quarter could be used for the project, they said, declining to be identified. JSW Steel chief executive Jayant Acharya had said earlier that no project had been finalised for the land. 'This (the land) is closer to the city of Cuttack, Paradeep Port, and the mining area. It makes sense for us to have a land bank in Orissa, and that is why we have acquired it. There is, as of now, no plan, but it is for future expansion, if required for any," Acharya told Mint in a post-earnings interview in July. On Monday, POSCO and JSW Steel signed a non-binding preliminary agreement to explore setting up a steel plant in India, marking the South Korean steelmaker's third attempt to establish a presence in one of the world's fastest-growing economies. Per the agreement for a proposed 50:50 joint venture, POSCO and JSW Steel said in a statement that they were considering Odisha as a key location for a 6 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) integrated steel plant. Also read | Importers finding gaps in India's 12% steel safeguard duty: JSW Steel's Jayant Acharya POSCO's latest effort to enter India aligns with the steel ministry's ambition to nearly double the country's steel production capacity to 300 mtpa by 2030. It also comes as ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India, a 60-40 joint venture between Luxembourg-based ArcelorMittal and Japan's Nippon Steel, prepares to increase its steel production capacity from 10 mtpa last year to 40 mtpa by 2035. 'For POSCO, India is an emerging market, where steel demand is growing despite a global slowdown," said Suman Kumar, vice president–metals and mining, at financial services firm Dolat Capital. 'Setting up locally gives them access to demand without being subject to import duties that India imposes on countries like Vietnam, China, or Korea. Even with a 50:50 JV, POSCO would secure half of the incremental earnings, making the venture financially attractive for them." JSW Steel and POSCO did not immediately reply to emailed queries seeking further details on the partnership. Third time lucky? In 2005, POSCO announced it would invest $12 billion to set up a 12 mtpa plant in Odisha. It also took up space on the fourth floor of Ashok Hotel in central Delhi, a stone's throw from the Prime Minister's official residence. Later in 2010, the South Korean steel giant announced a $5.3 billion investment to set up a 6 mtpa steel plant in Karnataka. POSCO's proximity to the decisionmakers, however, couldn't help it get started in India. In 2013, the company withdrew its plans for investing in Karnataka, and in 2017, pulled out of the Odisha project as well. At the heart of Posco's exit from India was its inability to access iron ore mines and acquire land because of regulatory issues. 'This is POSCO's third attempt to enter India. Partnering with JSW Steel—given their scale, land bank, and market clout—does improve POSCO's chances of success. However, it's still too early to say with certainty how it will play out," said Kumar. Also read | JSW Steel gets back its lustre in Q1; safeguard duty provides support JSW Steel is known for executing steel projects at a low cost with efficient pipelines and captive mines in Odisha. POSCO, on the other hand, brings advanced technology, said Kumar. 'For JSW Steel, they could leverage POSCO's technology to make special steels which are imported in India, like electrical steel, grain-oriented and non-grain-oriented steels, and niche alloys. A JV could, therefore, mean technology transfer and local production of these steels," he said. 'India is central to the future of global steel demand," Lee Ju-tae, representative director and president, POSCO Holdings, said in the statement announcing the agreement with JSW Steel. JSW Steel, which leads the domestic steel market, accounted for 27.79 million tonnes of the 151.1 mt produced in India in FY25, followed by Tata Steel Ltd at 21.68 mt. In 2005, India's steel production totalled 38.1 mt, with Tata Steel producing 4.10 mt of crude steel and JSW Steel, 1.88 mt. JSW Steel shares were up 3.15% to ₹1,078.40 each at 3pm on Monday, while the benchmark Nifty 50 index was up 1.15%.
