Gujarat Congress leaders face heat over caste politics
"For quite some time we are seeing the rise of identity politics in the party," said a leader from Saurashtra. "The leaders are now increasingly representing their own communities rather than the general people as was the party tradition," he said. The leader may not be all wrong.
Party members point out that when a recent controversy concerning a Patidar girl in Rajkot erupted it was the Congress Patidar leaders of the region who reacted sharply. When a Dalit man was murdered in Amreli, it was only the Dalit MLA Jignesh Mevani who spoke up against the crime. In fact, Mevani also expressed his angst against other leaders for not coming out in support in the case.

"These are not isolated incidents and we are increasingly seeing such examples in Congress where a Patidar legislator would only speak about the Patidars; Jignesh or Shailesh Parmar, (both Dalit leaders) will talk of Dalit issues; Imran Khedawala or Gyasuddin Sheikh only will raise the issue of Muslims," said another young Congress worker from Ahmedabad. "This is a dangerous trend and is hurting the very idea of the party that has so far boasted of its inclusivity," he added.
"This is a growing problem in Congress," admits Imran Khedawala. "If there is an issue with the Muslims, it is always me or Gyasuddinbhai who are raising the concerns. Even when it comes to making representations to the government agencies for issues pertaining to Muslims, they are left for us to do," he adds.

"What is disturbing is that other MLAs who win with considerable minority voters support too remain silent on these issues and now there is growing uneasiness within the community regarding the same," Khedawala said, adding that the matter has been taken up with Leader of Opposition
Rahul Gandhi

"Rahulji was not happy with it and told us that this will be looked into and rectified," Khedawala told ET.
"We have been dealing with internal fights for a very long time in the Congress that had weakened the party and now we have this growing identity politics that is focusing more on caste and communities; at this point, one truly does not know which one is worse," said the leader from Saurashtra.

TTD to carry out extensive propagation of Sanatana Dharma
Tirupati: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with grandeur at the Parade Grounds in the TTD Administrative Building here on Friday. TTD chairman B R Naidu, along with executive officer J Syamala Rao, hoisted the national flag and received the guard of honour from the security personnel. In his address, the chairman announced that the TTD will conduct extensive programmes for the propagation of Sanatana Dharma with the participation of the public. Vada has been introduced at Tarigonda Vengamamba Annadanam Bhavan from March, and a new SRIVANI ticket counter provides same-day evening darshan for tickets issued in the morning. Other measures include modernisation of Kalyanakatta, 110 per cent increase in Tirumala greenery, an anti-drone security system, a new quality-testing lab, phased development of sub-temples, construction of temples in various states and UTs, increased grants for temples in Dalit, tribal, and fisher communities, and strengthening of Srivari Seva with professional and NRI volunteers. EO Syamala Rao, extending I-Day greetings, said efforts are being made to ensure comfortable darshan for pilgrims from across the country and abroad, and lauded officials and staff for their services. Outlining initiatives, he said daily rituals are being performed strictly as per Agama Shastra, preparations are underway for the annual Salakatla Brahmotsavam from September 24 to October 2, and transparency in room allotment has been enhanced. A new PAC-5 complex to accommodate 10,000 pilgrims will open soon. The SV Museum is being redeveloped with Rs 145 crore donor funds, featuring 3D/7D experiences, tradition galleries, and vehicle services. Annadanam will be continued at Vontimitta temple, the Alipiri check post is being modernised, and a Cyber Security Lab will be established. Projects include an Integrated Administrative Building in Tirumala, new premium and budget waiting halls, 120 additional free APSRTC bus trips daily, upgradation of SVIMS with an Rs.80 crore additional grant, and wage hikes for Potu workers. He urged staff to maintain their enthusiasm and team spirit in serving devotees.

Rahul, Kharge skip Red Fort event, draw BJP fire
NEW DELHI: Absence of and , leaders of opposition in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, respectively, from the Independence Day event at Red Fort on Friday drew a sharp reaction from BJP which alleged that the main opposition party, Congress, has hit a "new low" with its top functionaries "insulting" the country by "boycotting" the event.
