TTD to carry out extensive propagation of Sanatana Dharma
In his address, the chairman announced that the TTD will conduct extensive programmes for the propagation of Sanatana Dharma with the participation of the public.
He recalled the sacrifices of freedom fighters and expressed confidence that India would soon emerge as the world's third-largest economy.
He said, following the directions of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, several new initiatives have been taken up, including implementation of AI technology for faster and more convenient darshan, improved quality and distribution of Annadanam with special counters in crowded areas, and annadanam with milk every three hours at the Vaikuntham Queue Complex.
Vada has been introduced at Tarigonda Vengamamba Annadanam Bhavan from March, and a new SRIVANI ticket counter provides same-day evening darshan for tickets issued in the morning. Other measures include modernisation of Kalyanakatta, 110 per cent increase in Tirumala greenery, an anti-drone security system, a new quality-testing lab, phased development of sub-temples, construction of temples in various states and UTs, increased grants for temples in Dalit, tribal, and fisher communities, and strengthening of Srivari Seva with professional and NRI volunteers.
EO Syamala Rao, extending I-Day greetings, said efforts are being made to ensure comfortable darshan for pilgrims from across the country and abroad, and lauded officials and staff for their services. Outlining initiatives, he said daily rituals are being performed strictly as per Agama Shastra, preparations are underway for the annual Salakatla Brahmotsavam from September 24 to October 2, and transparency in room allotment has been enhanced. A new PAC-5 complex to accommodate 10,000 pilgrims will open soon. The SV Museum is being redeveloped with Rs 145 crore donor funds, featuring 3D/7D experiences, tradition galleries, and vehicle services. Annadanam will be continued at Vontimitta temple, the Alipiri check post is being modernised, and a Cyber Security Lab will be established. Projects include an Integrated Administrative Building in Tirumala, new premium and budget waiting halls, 120 additional free APSRTC bus trips daily, upgradation of SVIMS with an Rs.80 crore additional grant, and wage hikes for Potu workers. He urged staff to maintain their enthusiasm and team spirit in serving devotees.

Pakistan: Radical Islamists set ablaze two Ahmadiyya places of worship
A leading minority group on Monday condemned the violence against religious minorities in Pakistan, highlighting the recent torching of two Ahmadiyya places of worship by a mob led by leaders of the radical Islamist party Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP). The Voice of Pakistan Minority (VOPM) mentioned that on the occasion of Pakistan's 78th Independence Day, extremists turned the country's streets into battlegrounds of hate. In Faisalabad district of Punjab province, two Ahmadiyya places of worship were set ablaze by the mob serving as an ugly reminder that in Pakistan, religious freedom remains an illusion. Citing police reports, the rights body revealed that more than 300 attackers, armed with rods and bricks, descended on Ahmadiyya worshippers under the cover of Independence Day processions in the Dijkot area. The VOPM highlighted that their main target was the two mosques built decades before Pakistan criminalized Ahmadiyya worship in 1984. They tore down minarets, delivered fiery hate speeches, and torched the buildings while hurling stones at nearby Ahmadiyya homes. The rights body stressed that the violent incident left families, including women and children terrorised, while several sustained injuries. According to the VOPM, the mob was reportedly led by TLP ticket-holder Hafiz Rafaqat, exposing once again how mainstream extremist groups openly incite violence under political and religious banners. It stated that TLP, notorious for its violent street power, enjoys immunity in Pakistan's political and judicial system while minorities pay the price. 'This was no spontaneous riot — it was organised terrorism, with cases now registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 and multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code. Yet, history shows such cases rarely lead to real accountability. Arrests are made, but justice seldom follows, as extremist groups continue to act as untouchable power brokers,' read a statement issued by VOPM. The rights body emphasised that the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) had, a day before the violent incident, warned about rising hate speech from clerics against non-Muslims. However, it said the warning was ignored and the Pakistani police response was reactionary, not preventive. Although 25 arrests were made, the VOPM noted that the police officials refused to confirm whether those detained included the nominated suspects. 'The silence of Faisalabad's police chief further reflects the institutional reluctance to confront extremism head-on,' said the rights body. Raising concern, the VOPM stressed that this is not an isolated incident but is part of a systemic, decades-long campaign against Ahmadiyyas and other minorities in Pakistan. 'From discriminatory laws to mob violence, the Pakistani state has allowed extremist ideologies to flourish unchecked. Every time the state bends to clerical power, it emboldens groups like TLP to dictate who belongs in the 'Islamic Republic' and who does not,' the VOPM stated. If Pakistan wants to have any credibility as a modern nation, the rights body demanded, then the authorities must crush extremist groups like TLP rather than appeasing them. Additionally, the VOPM called on to enforce Supreme Court rulings against hate speech and mob violence and also protect minorities as equal citizens, not "sacrificial pawns in a theocratic power game".

Siddheswara Swamy temple to get facelift
The groundbreaking ceremony of the ancient Sri Siddheswara Swamy temple in Talakona forest in Tirupati district, which is all set to get a facelift, was performed on Monday. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu, Chandragiri MLA Pulivarthi Nani and Tirupati District Collector S. Venkateswar participated in the 'bhumi puja' performed for the first phase of renovation works. Mr. Naidu said that the State government, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has taken up a massive initiative towards construction and renovation of ancient temples as part of 'Sanatana Dharma' promotion. 'The first phase of works will cover the sanctum sanctorum, Ardha Mandapam, Sri Parvati Devi's sanctum sanctorum and Maha Mandapam at the Sri Siddheswara Swamy temple complex,' he said. The TTD had already sanctioned ₹2 crore for these works, as approved by the State government, while additional financial support would be provided in a phased manner as well as for civic amenities. TTD trust board member Shanta Ram, Chief Engineer S. Satyanarayana, Superintending Engineer Manoharam, Executive Engineer Jaganmohan Reddy and engineering officials from the Endowments Department also took part.

Trump's Official Urges India To Stop Purchases Of Russian Oil For 'Funding' War In Ukraine
White House trade adviser Peter Navarro has targeted Indian purchases of Russian crude oil, accusing it of funding Moscow's war in Ukraine and called for New Delhi to stop, Al Jazeera reported, citing the opinion piece published in the Financial Times. In an opinion piece published in the Financial Times on Monday, Navarro wrote, "India acts as a global clearinghouse for Russian oil, converting embargoed crude into high-value exports while giving Moscow the dollars it needs." Notably, US President Donald Trump and his administration have continuously targeted India over its purchase of Russian crude oil. India, on the other hand, has always maintained that India's purchases are based on its domestic needs and economic security. The Ministry of External Affairs also pointed out in its recent statement that the US and European Union purchase much more oil and other goods than India. Further, Navarro slammed India for "cosying up" to Russia and China, saying "if India wants to be treated as a strategic partner of the US, it needs to start acting like one." India's dependence on Russian crude is "opportunistic and deeply corrosive of the world's efforts to isolate Putin's war economy," he added. The adviser also said that it was risky to transfer cutting-edge US military capabilities to India as New Delhi's ties to China and Russia deepen, as per Al Jazeera. Navarro is the second senior Trump administration official to accuse India of financing Russia's war in Ukraine. Stephen Miller, deputy chief of staff at the White House, in the first week of August, said that New Delhi's purchase of Russian crude was "not acceptable". "What he (Trump) said very clearly is that it is not acceptable for India to continue financing this war by purchasing the oil from Russia," Miller, one of Trump's most influential aides, said in an interview to Fox News. In response, the Ministry of External Affairs said that the country is being 'unfairly' singled out for buying Russian oil. At the same time, the US and European Union continue to buy goods from Russia. The EU and US trade much more with Russia than India does, New Delhi's contention for being singled out - although this trade has dipped significantly since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. The EU's total trade with Russia plummeted to USD 77.9 billion in 2024, down from USD 297.4 billion in 2021. Notably, the EU continues to import Russian gas, with expenditures reaching USD 105.6 billion since the war began. This amount is equivalent to approximately 75 per cent of Russia's 2024 military budget, according to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air. In contrast, the total trade between the US and Russia stood at USD 3.5 billion in 2024. US goods exports to Russia in 2024 were USD 528.3 million, down 11.8 per cent (USD 70.5 million) from 2023. Meanwhile, on this 79th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his speech, said that, "Modi will stand like a wall against any policy that threatens their interests. India will never compromise when it comes to protecting the interests of our farmers." Notably, at the beginning of this month, United States President Donald Trump imposed 50 per cent tariffs on Indian goods over the issue, straining US-India ties. India and the US have been negotiating for months to finalise a free trade agreement, with Trump accusing New Delhi of denying access to US goods by imposing high tariffs.
